Prior to this, we bought the Naxa NDL-400 7-Inch TFT LCD Display Portable DVD Player with Digital TV TUNER, AM/FM Stereo Radio, USB Input and SD/MMC Card Slots that actually was portable, but the sound quality on dvd playback was too poor for us and it did not play audio cds so we sent it back. Lastly, after the Coby we tried the only other boombox 7" tv/dvd unit left on Amazon that I could find, a GPX BT780B 7 Inch LCD Portable TV/DVD/AM/FM Boombox, and it was very flimsy and by far the poorest quality of the three.
After playing some Christmas cd's like the Vince Gauraldi Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack I have to say the sound on the Coby is impressively good for a small plastic speaker and much better than the NAXA and GPX boombox models. Gauraldi's piano notes came across very well defined. Very surprised at the sound quality. I was tempted to keep it for the music purposes only but don't need to spend the money on something that clearly does not meet our needs.
One caveat to mention, the tray that holds the disks appears to be VERY flimsy and longevity may be an issue. If you need a small shelf unit with all these features and want to take a chance on the dvd player lasting awhile, I'd recommend it. It just isn't what we wanted or expected based on the "portable" description. We did not attempt adjusting the screem image, but on the default settings it was not as bright or pleasant as the NAXA model. We ended up buying a music only boombox and a separate portable blu-ray player, the Sony BDPSX910 Portable Blu-ray Player.
I usually have better luck getting what I expected based on Amazon descriptions, but not with this "portable" Coby.

The Coby TFDVD7091 is perfect for your office shelf. It has so many features and they all work surprising well. The TV is HDTV with an over-the-air $10 antenna and the picture quality is terrific at 7 inches. It has a USB port plus a SD card slot. I don't know of another unit available with all these features. The speakers are separate from the center unit which allows them to be placed apart or used as one piece. Easy setup. I am a tech guy and this unit totally impressed me for the money. Amazon has by far the best pricing and the delivery was super quick.Read Best Reviews of Coby TFDVD7091 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Player and ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner, Black Here
has a few flaws.. like the DVD/CD drawer was super flimsy.. so i just removed it.. also you have to flip through all the inputs to get to what you want instead of dedicated input buttons.. does play AVI/XVID files on USB/SD card reader without a hitch.. speakers are true 2 way with woofer/tweeter.. and the system can get quite loud.. it is loaded with other cool stuff too.. tons of positive aspects.. there is no clock.. which is odd.. since it has a florescent display that stays on after you power it down.. these few quirks do not deter from how flexible and awesome this item is.. worth every penny.. highly recommended.. had it for 2 months now with no issues.. you wont be dissapointed..good news! had the unit for 4 months with no issues.. but the one thing that annoyed me is that with the florescent display, it should have a clock function, but it didnt.. at least it wasnt listed in the manual.. but i discovered it does by accident!
HOW TO SET UP THE CLOCK ON THIS ITEM
first put unit in AUX mode.. power unit off.. press and hold the OPEN/CLOSE button for a few seconds.. hour unit on the flourescent display should blink.. use CH/UP CH/DN to change hours.. use PLAY/PAUSE to change to minutes/seconds.. use CH/UP CH/DN to change the values.. once done setting time hit MODE button.. and your all set!
dont ask how i figured it out lol.. GOOD LUCK!
Want Coby TFDVD7091 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Player and ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner, Black Discount?
The only feature I haven't utilized is the TV input. The MP3 capability is great for music/recorded book downloads without the necessity to convert to standard CD format. Good radio reception and excellent DVD playback quality on the 7-inch screen. No complaints. Exactly as advertised. This small unit is great as a second tv, radio, or DVD player. The picture is tiny at "7, but the color and picture clarity are wonderful for such a small unit. Sound is surprisingly good. And we are pleased with the SD card slot for photos and the USB port located in the back. Haven't figured out the MP3 capability for the IPOD yet, but look forward to playing with it. Will use while traveling in the camper. What we see we like and would recommend this unit for a dorm student or for an individual in a small living space.
