I replaced my second expensive large & complicated Panasonic DVD recorder and player with this small, light and inexpensive Magnavox unit. Given current Internet and laptop computer capability, I no longer need a DVD recorder. What few people realize about Magnavox (Philips and Sylvania) brand multimedia products is they generally give buyers a lot for their money. Several years ago Japanese electronics corporation Funai purchased the American companies Magnavox, Philips, and Sylvania. Funai owns and manages several highly efficient factories outside Japan. Under the Magnavox and Philips brand names, they sell quality budget priced multimedia devices.
Do not let the low price point throw you. Magnavox and Philips brand combo VHS-DVR units are excellent buys. Visit an online TV video forum. You will find the enthusiasts love Magnavox brand and consistently prefer it over significantly more expensive and quirky Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic branded DVD, combo DVD-VHS and DVR (computer type hard drive) recorders. For good reason. The Funai made products simply work and they continue to work for well over a year, something you cannot say for the expensive fashionable brand products.
As I expected, this Magnavox DVD player just works and it works well. It sends outstanding picture and sound from DVD movies to my 55" LG HDTV. The results I get from it is no different from what I got from much larger $400 Panasonic DVD recorders and the Magnavox isn't as picky. It plays a wide range of store bought and home made video DVDs.This dvd player sucks. We hooked it up, put a disk in, and it started making this weird noise while the movie played. We tried another disk, and another and another, but same thing. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I tried two different units of this model DVD player. Both had intermittent "chirping" as the disc spun. This is extremely annoying, especially when watching a quiet movie. They both went back to the store for a refund.Read Best Reviews of Magnavox Mdv2100/f7 Dvd Player W/progessive Scan Zoom Slow Motion Search Here
I had an older Magnavox DVD player that lasted for years. I replaced it with a Best Buy brand, and that lasted about a year. I saw this Magnavox model in a Meijer store and the price was right. I realized that I wasn't getting the Cadillac of DVD players for $30, but there should be some minimum expectations. It lasted a few months and then started to periodically lose color. I had to turn the machine off and then on to reset it. I had already gotten another for a spare TV, so I returned the first one and switched to the second. It's still working, but makes some funny noises. Hasn't been used enough to tell yet. In the meantime, a third player was purchased for the basement. It won't play right from the beginning. Will play some DVD's but not others, even though its twin will play all of the former. It too will be returned.I expect the last one to go soon. A player or any product should be inexpensive because it lacks certain features, not because of poor quality. Yet I expect if I call the store to complain (or even Magnavox), there'll just be a shrug and comment "What do you expect of a $30 DVD player?" Let's say I expect a lot more than this. And perhaps some compensation from the manufacturer for my time, expense, and frustration.
When will people actually care enough about what they buy to consider boycotting corporations which insult the consumer with their shoddy products? Right now, it still seems to be . . . shrug and toss!

I've owned this player for well over a year, used it a lot and have had zero issues with it. It works like its supposed to with no fuss or drama, very easy to use. Don't know what else I can say say, great product.
