Really a pretty nice unit for the pirce! I think the tray open and close is a little slow but that is no problem unless you are in a real hurry. This unit records great and delivers a clear crisp image. I have used it in all modes and never had a problem. Playback is nice crisp and clear. I do feel the remote is a little cheezy in that it is really light weight and does not feel like it would last very long. Buttons on the remote seem to be quite small but the remote does function like it should.If you are looking for a great little DVD recorder that is easy to use then check this one out, it is quite good for the home user at the right price.

This is our 4th DVD player in so many years. The others were expensive and complicated. The others also, stopped working properly in short periods of time. So far I am very satisfied with this unit. Very simple to use and the picture quality is amazing. The price was a fraction of what the others cost. I am very happy and highly recommend this product to anybody.

If it worked, while it worked, it was great. Full featured, surprisingly good for the price. Great DVDs out of it.

Lasted 20 days and then died. Magnavox customer service told me it would take 10 days to authorize a return the rep literally said "Do you know how many calls we get for defective units every day? We can't do them all at once." And I couldn't just mail it in they had to arrange for FedEx to pick it up at my home "because otherwise it gets lost in our system" so I had to be home when they showed up.

Returned it to the manufacturer. Took so long to get back I literally forgot we'd owned it.

The "fully repaired to factory specifications" unit burned one DVD and died again on the second one. No power, no lights, no nothing. As the other reviewer said, box with a piece of plastic inside.

Never again, and after my customer service experience, unlikely to buy from this manufacturer again.

I purchased this unit about 2 years ago. Since then, I've literally made thousands of copies. Anywhere from 1 hr to 3 hour dvd's. At roughly a hundred bucks, this thing has paid for itself many times over. I purchased it mainly to record movies off my satellite. Picture quality is very good, generally as good as the source you input into it (non HD of course). It will only record onto dvd+-r discs (I've been using -r) but I've had no luck using dvd+-rw (even though the manual says it does I can never get the player to read these rewriteable discs). It will not record onto DL (dual layer) discs aswell. Recording times range from 1 hr (HQ), 2 hr (SP), 3 hr (EP), 4, 5, and to a max of 6 hrs. But picture quality suffers with the longer recording times. I've found 6 months into using this unit the clock setting would disappear after setting the auto record function, so at times the recorder would record my program, at other times I would find the unit with no recording. And this unit has a problem recording multiple events at different times onto 1 disc, so if your the type to wanna record 6 shows in one day while your out, you'll likely come home to find out maybe only 2 were actually recorded. Yes the remote buttons are fairly small and unlite, but after using this unit regularly I had no issues navigating my fingers around the remote.

The unit may not record certain vhs tapes or dvd's with copy protection on them (you will get an error message on your screen).

Just recently my player has been spitting out error messages more often than not when finalizing my discs ("error, cannot record onto disc"). So much so I have to power off the unit, reinsert the disc, have it take a minute to read, try to finalize again, and get the same error message. Now if I can't finalize my discs I can't watch them. Not sure if the motor or the laser in the unit is on the way out, but it's definitely not working properly lately. Unfortunately, I have 200 more unfanilzed discs stacked in spindles I have yet to get to. So, even though it's been 2 years and a couple thousand discs, I can say this unit has worked fairly reliably and has certain paid for itself.

Now, I'll need to purchase another new unit to get to my unfinalized discs!

I am an avid Classic Movie buff and have been copying old, classic movies for years. Previously copied movies on VHS video cassettes and now in the process or re-copying to DVD. Predominately copy from TV (Cable) broadcasts, I find this unit's edit functions quite simple to use and allows easy editing of the TV commercials for smooth, continuous playback. I am pretty sure, this unit has been discontinued from Magnavox. Over the years, I have purchased a total of three of these units which all are operating. Bought third unit as a spare.

I have received great service from this unit and again, prefer this unit because of the ease or operation of the edit functions. Would recommend this unit to all movie buffs who want to copy movies from their TV broadcasts, especially if they are interested in editing the commercials.
