I didnt buy this on Amazon, I actually bought it from Walmart. Anyway I couldnt find a pcie dvr card that worked with W7 64. I bought this anyway because on the box it says it will work with Vista 64. It works fine for me on W7. Just thought Id let everyone know.UPDATE: Added a second card and it works great. No problems as of yet.The card installed fine and works under Windows 7 64-bit. The included software allows for realtime monitoring of multiple cameras, and lets you configure your computer for remote monitoring over the internet. The documentation is written poorly and is difficult to understand, but it gets the job done.
Unfortunately, the product generates recordings (AVI files) that are unreadable. The main reason I bought the card was so that I could look at recorded activity on the cameras, and I simply cannot do that. I tried many things: 1) downloading/installing the codec pack suggested by Q-See support, 2) trying multiple alternative AVI players that people on the internet suggested. No AVI player would recognize the files. I can only conclude that the files are simply invalid. It's a shame, because I never had this problem with the 4-channel Q-See card that I've had for years. Buyer beware.
UPDATE 28-July-2011:
I installed the card in a different PC that had an Intel i3 chip (Win 7 64-bit) instead of an AMD Athlon II chip. I'm happy to report that it does work now, and it records AVI files as it should. It seems that the product is simply incompatible with AMD chips, as noted by other reviewers. I have to say that I am reasonably happy with the product now. However, the product description should clearly state the incompatibility issue, and their support team should share this information with users.
Buy Q-See QSDT8PCRC 8 Channel Software H.264 Real Time Recording PC Based Network DVR PCI Card Now
After using two same brand 4 channel PCI cards for quite some time with good results, I decided to upgrade to a pciX 8 channel card. Big mistake! The card does not work properly, after just a few hours of use, four channels began to flicker and later stopped working at all. Customer Support was not helpfull, they just recommended to install software from the most recent release, which in the end proved to be an even bigger mistake. I tried to install the card in three different machines running XP, Vista and even 7, and also tried as 32 or 64 bit installations. Nothing made the card work properly. In the end, the only solution customer support gave me, was a telephone number to call the company and ask for a return. The intermediary seller never answered the mails. The worst part is that after returning to the 2-card configuration, only one card worked on any single machine... I guess some problem with the driver software but to date I am working with two computers in order to have the 8 channels running. So, I am not a happy camper regarding this specific purchase. The product arrived ok. It does NOT work with 64 bit Windows. Problem was when i returned it, the company that fufilled the order from Amazon charged me a 20% restocking fee. This was never a problem with Amazon before, but now with its partners it looks like we need to read more fine print. Not as easy as it used to be.My old PC that I also used for video surveilance died, so when I bought a new PC with Windows 7 64 bit platform, little did I know that NO ONE ,really NO ONE make a PC DVR card for this platorm. But after reading John Kesslers' review, I thought I'd give it a try. And sure enough, after about 2 reinstallations and a couple of reboots..Q-see Super DVR is up and running fine. Thanks John
