The recorder is good. I like the fact that it cannot accidentally get turned on and that it does not make a sound when you start recording. Transfer recording to computer was easy. The "voice to print" software was deeply disappointing. I wasted alot of time "training" the software without worthwhile results.
Good clear reproduceable meeting notes. I bought this particular recorder for the Dragon Naturally speaking aspect of it big mistake!! I can't and have not even gotten it to work yet. I would have wanted to know how easy and achievable the set up was, and also if the system could pick up other voices other than mine. I use the recorder for meetings,I found that out after I bought and read the specs that it can only recognize my voice. Waste of money!! I should have just purchased the Sony ICD-PX312.

This is a good, sturdy unit that can stand a couple of bounces without the whole world coming to an end. Dragon Software is very faithful once you have done the calibration, which takes about 90 minutes. The calibration is not universal, but at least you can dictate in your own voice. The microphone is more than good enough for you to record acoustic music as well as voices. Musicians who have always had problems with written language should take note: if you hate writing things, or you don't write as well as you speak, this unit may help you. You can dictate ideas, transcribe, edit the lines into lyrics, set them to music, and record voice and acoustic guitar. Instead of struggling with a lyric, you can write the whole song in almost no time. The musical part is, of course, up to you.

The recorder works well. Unfortunately the Dragon Print Software is not compatible with a Mac. It was therefore a waste of the extra money paid to have that software. Neither Sony or Amazon indicated that the software was not Mac compatible . It was printed in the instructions that came with the recorder. Very disappointing.

Ok the recorder is great. Easy and intuitive to use, out of the box and working in ten minutes. It could have been working in two minutes, but packaging these days is most definitely not designed for people with poor eyesight or arthritis. Forget the free batteries send it with a Stanley knife and hammer.
The downer to this deal is the "dragon naturally speaking" software. I spent many a pointless hour training it to recognise my speech which it failed to do despite my distinctly "received" accent. When it came to recognising anyone else's speech patterns the results were so funny that I almost (but not quite) felt the extra outlay had been worth it. It's completely useless for transcribing meetings or phone calls and the only use I can think of for it, is as a party game! (A modern day twist on "Chinese whispers" with people trying to guess, after reading the Dragon transcription, just what was said originally).
My advice? Buy the voice recorder but save yourself the extra £30 or so by getting the version which comes without "Flagon Mat to sea leaking."!!
