This is a very compact unit that functions pretty good with two exceptions; the sound recorder does not work; when outside on a sunny day the view screen becomes a mirror which prevents you from seeing anything but your own reflection. For the $ this isn't an awful camcorder. Takes a while to get used to but it isn't a huge learning curve. It's so light it won't stand upright with the veiw screen out, it falls over on it's side, so if you want to take a picure with the self timer or jump into a video have a tripod handy. What bothered me most about this camcorder is when I found that battery charging was covered in the user manual or the cd that comes with it I called customer service only to find that Vivitar doesn't make this cammera, it was made by the old Vivitar company that's out of bussiness and no support is available, none. Who ever bought the Vivitar name should have also taken on the support roll of older products if they wished to continue to use the Vivitar name in my opinion. This may be the cammera for you, small light, low price point but beware your buying an outdated, nonsupported product.Great device for the money. So far have very few complaints other than the USB cord is short and makes using the camcorder as a webcam somewhat difficult. Would (and have)recommend this camcorder for someone who wants an inexpensive camcorder. My daughter is very happy with the camera my only complaint is I paid extra for faster delivery because this was a birthday gift and I was running out of time and I could of sent it to her with the regular mailing and she would have got it as fast I will never pay extra for faster delivery again. The camera is great though.an excelent product to have. this was actually bought for one of my client. it went on her hit list immediately. i love it
