Mounted this on a greenware cleaning table I built for my wife and even at a bit off the lowest speed it provides enough air flow to pull the dust down onto the filter. QUIET! That was the main objective for purchasing the variable speed. Nothing is more annoying than the whining hum of these little fans when one is doing close precise work.I purchased this item for an AV cabinet I was constructing. I really liked the idea that the fan had a speed control, as I was worried about the "hum" that would come from the cabinet. The fan appears well built and well constructed. The speed control does work well for fan speed adjustments. What I did not like were the mounting brackets that came with the fan. They are flimsy for the weight of the fan and can only be used for certain installs. I did not use them. It was nice that the fan came with removable grills for either side. The fan and controller are both very good albeit heavy. The one issue I have is that it rather loud, and when mounted in any fashion the frequency of the fan causes it to be even louder. I wanted to use it under my desk to keep air flowing around some of my computer stuff, but I just can't. Even with rubber mountings it can be heard over the rest of the equipment in my home office. I'll still put it to good use, but not doing what I originally purchased it for.I got this to be quiet alternative to the loud fan in my dish network box. It pushes enough air to keep the internal fan from running, but only at about 3/4 max speed or higher. It's still quieter than the internal fan, but still distracting.Bought this to aid in cooling my A/V equipment. The fan came as described and shipped quickly. Overall the unit comes with everything you need to mount it or use as a standalone device. The fan and all equipment are made of metal and seem very sturdy. One thing that may bother some is the fact that the fan can be a bit loud at full speed. This doesn't bother me, and I still consider it to be on the quiet side, but the fan is by no means silent. The fan moves plenty of air to cool whatever you need. It really moves the air, much stronger than the silent case fans aimed at cooling A/V equipment and cabinets. You do have to be careful when testing the fan or working with it while it is running as it can damage anything that the blades contact, including your good ole fingers. There is a speed control included with the fan that works well, but seems cheaply made compared to the fan itself. I am not using it at this time, but would caution you that heavy use of the controller and on/ off switch may cause malfunction or breakage (which is the reason for the one star deduction).
Buy with confidence from this seller. I would purchase again without hesitation.
