Digital Audio Coaxial SPDIF Coax to Toslink Optical Digital Converter

Digital Audio Coaxial SPDIF Coax to Toslink Optical Digital ConverterI have a Samsung Soundbar and a Phillips LCD tv. I was very excited when we finally bought the soundbar because I was looking forward to listening to movies with real sound. Imagine my dismay when I tried to hook up the soundbar and found that their were 2 different types of audio cables in use. The samsung uses optical cable and the Phillips uses SPDIF (Sony-Phillips Digital Interfonnect Format). The 2 are not compatible, although the soundbar does have a regular audio input if you want to dedicate the system to one HDMI or AV jack, or cable. I wanted it for all three so that meant finding a cable or link between the 2. This is it! Make sure you have the correct cables and correct converteryou need the optical cable going out and the SPDIF going into the link if you are experiencing a similar issue. Both cables can be bought online or at radio shack. (SPDIF is also called digital audio coaxial cable).

I bought this little device and the cable and now i have a home theater system! If you need a way to hook up these 2 different types of devices this is the link for you!

I bought this not knowing what to expect. After using it I found it works fine. Converts digital audio from RCA to Optical.

Only bad thing is that you have to plug it in to power it so you will need an extra outlet.

Ordered this plus a coax digital cable and an optical digital cable to make a bridge between a Blu-Ray player (coax digital out) and a home theater audio system (optical digital in). Works like a charm -now I have DTS (BD's and DVD's) and Dolby Digital (Netflix, etc.) from my Blu-Ray player. Total cost for all three was about $23 including S&H (cables were $.01 each!).

Worked for about a week and then quit, sent it back to the company and have never heard back or got a refund. That was about 3 weeks ago. I wouldn't buy from this company again, that's for sure.

Tested with multiple coax and optical cables and there is just extreme amounts of electrostatic and popping over higher attenuation. It only works well at very low db. It looks like I got one of the junky ones that the one-star people are complaining about.

I should have known better than to buy this with such a start division in the reviews. I blame myself for ending up with what amounts to junk. I am only giving it two starts because it didn't blow up into a cloud of purple smoke the second I plugged it in, although I do believe that is not far down the line.
