I received a "Dark" silver remote instead of the lighter silver one (which my old one was) shown in the picture, and though it worked fine with my Sony flatscreen and Panasonic HT system, it would not work with my Motorola DCT6200 Cable box it would not accept the codes to change the default cable box setting, which apparently is a newer device. A bit of searching on the Internet turned up this WONDERFUL page, which is a pretty comprehensive wiki on these Comcast remotes. Anyway, I'll get to the part that worked *immediately" to get this to work with my old HD cable box: The Cable device code may be locked on some remotes. To unlock:press the CABLE button.
press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
Enter 9 8 2. The CABLE key will blink four times.
Then: Hold SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice
Enter 01376 (The CABLE Button should blink twice, indicating that the new code has been accepted)
The remote should now work with the older cable box. There is no need to re-lock the remote to the cable box.
I saw a complaint that a person had to keep hitting "AUX" to control the volume of their audio system the remote can be programmed to perform that function while being left in the "cable" mode. The same works for the "TV" mode. (This is actually in the manual that comes with the remote)
1.Press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
2.Enter 9-9-3 (light will blink twice)
3.Press and release either the AUX key or the TV key, which will blink twice now you should be able to control the volume while remaining in the "Cable Box" mode.
I received the remote brand new in the bag from makeawishkid in perfect condition, so I rated it five stars because I'm using the remote on an old box, which isn't the seller's fault.Had to sign in on my girlfriends account to chime in here. I have about 60 of these sitting in my van in front of my house. And I would never charge someone for them. If you need one badly for whatever reason try your local office, if that doesn't pan out and you see a technician in the field go up and politely ask for one. Nine times out of ten we'll give you one. Keep in mind the remote shown here is for Scientific Atlanta boxes. If you have any other model it may not control it. If you have a Cisco model the remote you need is a darker charcoal color.

I ordered this remote to replace the remote we got from comcast that wasn't working. It came at the speed of light! I was impressed that it came with batteries and the list of codes to program our television. Programing was easy too! I bought this to control a Cisco 150 cable box and a Proscan TV but couldn't make it "connect" with the cable box. I googled the remote and all I could find was techno-speak or statements saying that it simply wouldn't work ("silver" remote won't work with my box, need a "platinum" one). I was about to give up and chalk it up to a bad purchase when I ran across a reply to a review to this remote. The remote may have to be unlocked before it can connect to a cable box, TV and whatever. So, with sincere thanks to commenter B.Benson, here is what he said to do and it worked for me;Had the same problem until I realized (after some intense research), that the cable code may be "locked". See below for instructions to unlock and set the code for the specific cable box:
The Cable device code may be locked on some remotes. To unlock:
1. press the CABLE button.
2. press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
3. Enter 9 8 2. The CABLE key will blink four times.
Then, follow the normal programming procedure using the correct code as above for your set-top box. To re-lock the Cable device code, repeat the steps above.
Back to my "problem", the Proscan codes didn't work but the included instructions on using code 9-9-1 to find the code did so the remote now works for both the TV and cable box, despite all the people who said it wouldn't.
4 stars instead of 5 because SOMEWHERE it should have stated that the code may be locked and how to unlock it.
