Anyway, I am giving this system 5 stars because it is inexpensive, simple to setup, and couldn't be easier to navigate the menu's once you're completely setup.
Since the audio on my digital camera doesn't work:
The first half of the video was live footage of what was being recorded at that moment. Then you'll see me easily and quickly navigate the menu to go back to midnight of the night before and show the nightvision capabilities. The camera(3) I zoom in on shows a dark corner that would appear completely black to people looking at it. The nightvision capability of this system is awesome. Camera 2 shows a car in the street, that area has no light around it and you can still clearly see the car and surrounding area.
All in all I'm happy with my purchase. I did a LOT of research before making this purchase and it payed off. I'd definitely recommend this product to a friend.
UPDATE::: The system is working great still with the exception of one camera. The night vision is blurry on one camera and there is obviously something wrong with that specific camera since the problem followed the camera to the four mount points. I contacted SVAT customer service and they told me to send the camera back. I did and two months later I received an email from them saying the camera works fine and they're sending back the original. I received the original back and it still has the problem. They must not have read what I wrote was the actual problem. I'm disappointed with their customer service this time and I guess I'll just buy another camera to replace the broken one.
UPDATE 2::: I uploaded another video real fast to show the system again. The file was too large so I used a free file converter to change the format to make the file smaller. I guess they watermark the video and limit it to 3 minutes. Not a big deal cause it was only 3:09 so the entire video is essentially there. Sorry for the watermark though.I installed the slightly earlier version (no smart phone access) of this system in our 2nd home in December of 2008. It seems that many people post reviews soon after purchasing a product or very soon after something goes wrong with the item or the service. I thought it might be good to post a review from a long time user.
I had some trouble with system set-up (It ended up being a problem with my computer). And, I had to replace one camera about a year ago. The customer service was responsive and helpful. We view the cameras daily from our home 900 miles away, and we've used them to resolve a couple of false alarms with our ADT system. The cameras have been operating outdoors in TN for over 2 years in temps between 5 and 100 degrees in rain, snow, sleet etc. I have recommended this system to many people and will continue to do so.
Bottom line: The system has performed almost flawlessly and the customer service is very good. After doing some research on these cameras, It seemed these cameras were the best for the price. Real happy with the plug and play setup, very easy to set up. The only thing I am not happy with is the quality of the video. The pics online showed a crisp clear image, these images are very grainy and jumpy. Hard to see faces or licence plate #'s, night vision works, but amplifies low light to the point it blurs out the rest of the image, but for the price not a bad setup. all in all good quality for the price... i would have spent more for a better picture.I received my SVAT 4 channel/4 camera DVR security system a couple of days ago and after a rather lengthy installation (my own fault, as I am a neat freak), the system booted up just fine. I have not had the time to go through all the set-up and recording options, but they seem pretty straight forward. Basically, once you plug in the cameras and power up the DVR, the system is recording. The definition of the system is about what I expected....about standard definition TV quality. (Remember what that is? Before High Def.) If you want high def, you will spend A LOT OF MONEY.
My biggest complaint is the cheesy little camera mounting brackets. None of the 4 included in the box are very stable (the ball joint for the camera cannot really be torqued into stability. If you do try to tighten them too much, the plastic handle just spins on the threaded lock screw. One of the mounts was totally inoperable -the head assembly just flops around, so it is worthless. I contacted SVAT and they are apparently sending a replacement mount.
I was so disappointed with the mounting situation, that I have already ordered 4 after-market mounts that received pretty good reviews. You might want to check out VideoSecu 4 Wall Ceiling Mounts for Security Video Cameras 2-6 inch Adjustable Pan Tilt Camera Mounting Bracket 1S8 I haven't received them yet, but at least they are alleged to be steel, instead of the SVAT pot metal mounts.
UPDATE (6/7/2012): After looking at additional video monitoring systems, I have relegated this system to backup duty due to lack of resolution (420 line) and (honestly) crappy night vision lighting. SVAT actually has the huevos to call the cameras "hi def". I found much better products from Q-See, with cameras of 600 line resolution and night vision capabilities to put this system to shame. Check Costco.com.Everything works perfectly the best parts of it are:
4 Night vision cameras (when theirs light the video is in color when its dark out the video is band white)
1 usb laser mouse for controlling the camera system easily. (not your average cheap ball mouse)
The camera's DVR which can record up to a month of video and has a usb port to allow for an external hard drive to be connected for additional space as the saying goes your defiantly getting for what you pay for with this camera set which also allows you to connect and view he camera from your mobile phone or desktop computer from anywhere theirs internet access or free Wifi (if you have a ipod touch like i do) all four camera are powered by a single ac adapter which splits the power into four individual cables. The camera's connect do a composite (the yellow, red, white cables) to i think it was a BCX adapter which is great because the camera's aren't bound to the security DVR so if you wanna place a camera on a tv or you wanna connect a different video source to the security console you can.
