Works for me on Linux (Debian 6.0 Squeeze), but not nslu2 (not enough memory [256Mb] or cpu power [BogoMIPS=266.24] to do this AND 'motion'), but it work did on a SheevaPlug (512M and BogoMIPS=1192.75) and better systems sufficient for security cameras.

Search for "easycap_dc60.0.9.tar.gz" ( I found it at sites google com /site/viewandrecordwithlinux/file-cabinet/easycap_dc60.0.9.tar.gz ) and more or less follow the embedded README. (With the addition of: sudo rmmod easycap && sudo modprobe easycap 'bars=0').

Change /etc/motion/motion.conf settings: videodevice /dev/easycap1, v4l2_palette 5, input 1, norm 1

The /dev/easycap might be 0 or 1; input is 1, 2, 3, or 4 (because there are 4 cables).

I was not interested in the audio port and so didn't test/use it.

I purchased this device to monitor an outdoor security camera from my laptop. The video quality is very limited and disappointing how the company sold similar products for VCR capture I have no idea...

While the USB device itself is barely limping along, the software that came with it Does Not Work. I don't say this in the "i don't like the color scheme, why are the buttons so big?" kinda way; but as in a not functional, error messages, dud, doesn't even install entirely. From other reviews that I have read, this is not an isolated incident.

Finding compatible software to fill the void is time consuming and can't make up for the obvious limitations of the hardware. I do not recommend this product.

it works, but had to scroung around for drivers for w-7. Easy cap doesn't have any. finally found some that make it work by scouring the net and using another manufactures. But...can only get one input of the four to work. Support is worthless...don't expect anything from easycap...this may work right on earlier versions of windows-dunno. I wud have given it a three, but the non-existant support dropped it to a two. The web site sends you to an "unofficial" forum of easy cap users where you can haggle out the problems but there is no direct way to contact them that i am aware of...so, if it works for you out of the box, great...fortunately i learned to buy these as cheap as possible and i didn't spend much so just one input is about what it is worth...

There are a number of installation complaints with this item on Vista/7, but I didn't run into any of those; the installation was successful on my laptop and desktop PC's running XP (no surprise) and Vista. Additionally, I'm not stating anything new when I inform you that this device does not capture feeds on all four channels simultaneously (hardware, can't work around it), so it renders it practically impossible to ditch the MultiViewer software that comes in the box. Unfortunately, the MultiViewer software does not justify the shortcoming of the hardware: it's buggy and temperamental. It has basic SMTP options for e-mailing "motion" detected and the like, but you have to use an address that doesn't require authentication (Yahoo). I ditched this option and just send timer snaps to my Dropbox account every so many seconds. My version won't even save my settings each time the program is launched, so I have to plug them in manually every time -fortunately for me, I've been able to work around this with a batch file that ensures optimum settings, enables timer snap, and ensures the program is running constantly. For others that aren't quite so technically inclined, I cannot recommend this product.

I needed a usb DVR for a security camera. The software contained with the package looked like it would work after install, but it doesnt. after surfing the web trying to distinguish which model this actually was so i can try proper drivers and video capture program.

Ulead VideoStudio was able to capture some, i only recorded 30m before turning off and deeming it usable, however when the time came to need to record again, the dvr would not turn on, making it worthless.
