After ordering a test cable from Eforcity, I was pleased with the product and ordered 4 more for all the older audio/video devices in my house.These are generic, no name cables, but all optical cables do basically the same thing: they deliver a digital signal from Point A to Point B. You can pay more for thicker cable housing, more rugged plugs, a brand name, and other frills, but if you're going to plug these in and leave them plugged in, you don't need an expensive cable or worry much about wear and tear. I especially appreciate the captive end caps. They protect the ends from dust when not in use and cannot possibly slip off and get lost.
HDMI is considered superior to optical and can carry both a video and audio signal, so if your device supports both, use HDMI. If not, then optical is second best.
Use on my Logitech PC Speaker set.

The cable works as well as any expensive cable I've purchased in the past. For the price, that came to about $1.25 for a 12 foot optical cable, dont expect much in terms of it being heavy duty. But this cable does exactly what its supposed to do. The connector snaps in very securely and will not fall out, which was a concern since some other costly optical cables I have fall out once in a while. The cable itself is only about 2mm thick and looks very fragile. So you wouldnt want to be using this in an area where the cables could possibly be crimped or where it would be moved around often. The cable I received did not have tethered cap protectors just small covers over the fiber optic.
