My colleague teaches 3rd grade and loved this product so I purchased two for my classroom of kindergarteners. We were all very excited about it! It really is a wonderful pen, especially because I teach Spanish and could have the students listen to books in Spanish or English depending on how I read them. The biggest downfall and the reason I had to return 2 different pens was because the headphone jack broke right away. I need the students to be using headphones so the classroom environment remains quiet for all to be learning and when both pens broke after 2 weeks in the classroom I decided to return them as they didn't serve their purpose in class. It's possible 5 year olds are more rough with the headphone jack than 9 year olds, but these are made for kids, so I'd expect them to be a bit more sturdy. Overall a great product, but a pretty big problem if you need the headphone jack to work.
