I had an older unit of this model and last for several years. I was surprised to learn that TIVO/DirectTV stopped making these type of units and had to buy a used one. But this one works just fine and I am happy with it. I do understand after talking with DirectTV that since they now own TIVO that they will be making new DVR units. They just did not know the timeline for production of the units. This unit has a larger HD then my last one (which is a good thing!)
So, I am happy with it and hope to purchase the newer unit when they come out.I had this exact unit and liked it much more than the new unit Directv sent to replace it, I think the harddrive went bad on my original series two. It took a lot of time on the phone with Directv's top techs to get it to accept newer software and it had to connect a few time before it did but now it is working perfectly. I just think the Tivo format is superior to the in house unit.
