Our DVD player, which was bought on the cheap the day after Thanksgiving in 2003, came with me to my apt after the divorce. About 6 months ago, it started not really working. I didn't have the money to replace it, but my son and I watch a LOT of films. I started @ Consumer Reports and once I found a good basic DVD player, moved on to Amazon. A few days later, for less than $55 including shipping & handling, I had a great DVD player that does what I need it to do: play films. I don't need any bells or whistles, just pop in a disc and go! I had thought that I was going to have to spend at least $150. Kudos to Consumer Reports for bothering to review so basic a machine, and Amazon for having it available. I didn't even mind paying shipping for my $40 find!

We've been using it for a month or so now, and it's been ace. Dead easy to set up and use. It's much smaller than the previous player as well which is nice.

If you need an inexpensive DVD player that will play films for you, I recommend this one highly. I don't know enough to make lots of technical comments, but I did find the analysis at Consumer Reports to be helpful.
