Olympus TP-8 Telephone Pick-up Microphone

Olympus TP-8 Telephone Pick-up MicrophoneI waited for the newer model and I'm glad I did. It works better than I could have imagined. There was another reviewer who was complaining about the phantom power requirement. I say--"Get over it!" Most modern recorders have phantom power so it shouldn't be an issue. I used mine with a Sony IDC PX 312 and it works extremely well. The arrangement of placing it between the phone device and your ear is a bit awkward but the sound quality is superb and it even normalizes your voice and the voice on the other end. Since it's acoustically coupled it can be used with any kind of hand set including cellphones.

I must say I was skeptical about this 'telephone pick-up microphone.' It seemed hard to believe that it could pick-up both sides of the telephone conversation while still allowing the wearer to hear the conversation clearly. But I tried it with my Olympus digital recorder and was very pleasantly surprised. I had no trouble hearing the incoming voice (in spite of having the pickup in that same ear) and indeed the recorder picked up and recorded the conversation quite clearly. Worked great.

This thing is wonderful. You just stick it into your ear as if it were an earplug, yet you still hear clearly. It comes with three sizes of the rubber end, therefore fitting different ear-channel sizes. It will pick up your own voice too, since the phone also transmits your voice into your ear; there is no other mike on the cable.

Since I did my bit of research before-hand, I knew I was going to buy an Olympus accessory for an Olympus recorder--for full electric compatibility--and the device works like a charm.

As a journalist, I have struggled with trying to find a quick and simple way to record phone interviews in a high-quality format. This little piece of equipment was recommended by a professor at my journalism school (she's a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and she uses this as well). I use this with my Sony Digital Flash Voice Recorder (ICD-PX312, HIGHLY recommended, ~$50) and it works GREAT. If you're a journalist or a writer or just need to record cellphone or landline conversations, get this NOW.

I needed this device to record conference calls so I could replay and write down notes later. I have a problem that it's hard for me to take notes and keep up with the conference calls at he same time. With this, I could focus on the meeting and take notes later. I connect this device to my Toshiba pocket digital recorder. I can hear the calls perfectly, and the earphone is easy and comfortable to wear. I can't think of anything bad to say or complain about it.
