Needless to say, it does the job. You will want to make sure you've got a good grip on your VMP before putting the deadcat on, as it is a tight fit and won't simply slide onto it. Other than that, it catches the wind nicely and acts as a nice cover to also protect the mic/foam windscreen from the outer elements. I'd hate to have it in the rain, however. This is not going to protect the mic from damage. If anything, water will cling to this windscreen more than anything else. Other than that, it's a great little product to have and I'm sure it will come in handy on many more occasions.
FYI, this was not an Amazon purchase. I bought my VMP at a local pro audio shop.

The DeadCat VMP windscreen does cut down on wind noise, compared to only using the windscreen that comes with the VideoMic Pro, but I still got a lot of wind noise in light winds because the windscreen does not cover the switches on the back of the microphone. I was able to eliminate wind noise by covering the switches with a fleece glove. The DeadCat VMP windscreen could be greatly improved by simply making it a little longer to cover the switches.Read Best Reviews of Rode DeadCat VMP Wind Muff for VideoMic Pro Here
It's a little shaggy looking bugger and catches people's attention. Should have come with a comb because it's always having a bad hair day. It helps definitely but doesn't block or muffle enough to warrant five stars. The fit is pretty snug and it does look like I scraped it off Route 66 some days. But it's worth getting, if you don't know how to make your own. Please, don't skin something. Such a device isn't worthy of more than basic info and some dumb puns, so feel free to buy it, and some doof will some day want to pet it.Want Rode DeadCat VMP Wind Muff for VideoMic Pro Discount?
I just used this to shoot a bunch of video at the beach (high wind indeed). It worked very well. It's difficult to put on and take off, so I think it will just live on my VMP all the time. There is a tag that hangs off the back and falls directly over the "on" light on the mic (how did they not notice this?). Cut it off.Other reviewers have noted that it does shed (not much, but it does). I fear loose hair floating around my camera bags and cases, and ending up in a lens or camera body. I guess there are bigger things to worry about. Good product overall.
I have not done it yet, but my wife wants me to put googly eyes on the end of it, since so many people remark that it looks like a rodent is perched up atop my camera when I've got this mounted. Funny idea. Maybe a trip to Hobby Lobby is in order. The deadcat works well the few times I used it outside. It does however seem just a bit too small and I can't get it completely around the mic. It loses one extra star for being a complete ripoff.
