My DVR failed and I opened the DVR box to investigate. To my surprise the hard drive was the same as my computer hard drive. I proceeded to remove the HD to swap with my computer drive, and the DVR worked. However, I notice my computer hard drive Id's were not the same the the DVR Id. So I searched amazon browser with the same Id of the DVR HD and I founded this one. I love the 500GB upgrade because it allows me to record up to a month of data as opposed to two weeks my 250GB HD gave me. So far I love this device, because it is the correct device for a 24/7 DVR.

HAD TWO DRIVES BEFORE THIS, BOTH FAILED. SEAGATE BETTER PRODUCT LAST LONGER. OTHER DRIVES WERE NOISY. THIS ONE SEAGATES V35 500 GB SMOOTH AND NOT NOISY.

As an IT pro, I know a fair amount of information about hardware and as such, I am very particular about the products I purchase. Being old school, I don't care much for Seagate due to past issues but was impressed with the specifications of this drive and the fact it was optimized for video surveillance, which is the purchase of purchasing the drive.

I've had the drive in for about a week and do notice considerable differences between this drive and the Western Digital Caviar Black line which is my preferred drive. For the most part, it is performing well and has quicker access times over the Caviar Black. I knocked a star off because as fate would have it, my experiences in general with Seagate are returning. I am hearing the drive while accessing data and that bothers me. Time will tell if the drive will continue to run quiet or it is starts chattering again.
