VuPoint DVC-ST100B-VP-BX4 Digital Video Converter

So far I like this thing. I was easy to use right out of the box, and converts analog video to digital. What I don't like is that it converts to ASF format and not AVI. AVI is far more easy to use and edit, in my experience, and plus, I could edit it right now on my MAC without getting anything else, program wise.

I did also have to use some female to female connectors to get the videos of my video camera, as the outputs on it are male, and so are the outputs on the converter. An easy fix, as the connectors are cheap and easy to get. If you do have to do the same, spend the extra money for the good ones, because in the long run, you'll get better results. The cheapest ones are CHEAP!

The quality of the converted video is okay, for the most part, but is a little dark and grainy at times.

All in all, a good buy, for the price.

For a DVR the VuPoint is okay. I use mine to record flight videos from an R/C airplane. The recorded video quality is not anything close to actual video input. That said, it will work for my intended purpose. If you want something oh higher quality recordings then I'd look elsewhere and plan to pay bigger bucks.

This little box does something quite spectacular. It will transfer any RCA input, into a file that can be read, and saved to your computer, via sd card. It couldn't get any easier to use. A simple power button, and record button does everything you need. It even has a playback feature. I haven't had any problems with the audio video timing. I've used it for some home videos for longer than an hour on a single recording file. The only problem I have with this thing, is the video quality. It is not HD in any stretch of of the imagination. I realize that it's not advertised for HD. But this lessens the quality of any video. It's not even standard definition. Its just a little annoying when your watching something in HD or even standard definition that looks crystal clear, and then looks so grainy on the computer. But I guess that's what you get when it still does something so awesome. Its a steal for what it does. But if you have the money, and would use it a lot, I would suggest splurging for an HD capable recorder.

I originally bought this item about 3 1/2 years ago at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I paid about $90 for it, and use it all the time to save TV recordings, both live and taped shows. I had mentioned the recorder to my brother when visiting him in New York about 6 months ago. He called me and asked about the recorder, and I told him I would see who carries it. I went online to Amazon, saw the price for about 25% of what I had paid for it. So I purchased and shipped it to him for a surprise Christmas present. He started using it, and last week called me and is very happy I got it for him. I am able to view the recordings on my computer, and the recordings are very clear to watch.

My wife has boxes of VHS videos that were shot by her Dad. Family outings, birthday parties, all kinds of activities. The trouble is we have the tapes with no index or listings. Previously I transferred VHS to DVD with a standalone recorder. This does work and I have made some pretty good copies but quite frankly it is a pain to do this and at some point in the not to distant future DVDs will go away to.

After the transfer the SD card is plugged into your laptop, pc, or other digital device. Now that it is digitized you can edit it in movie editing programs and store those VHS home movies digitally on a hard drive or flash drive.

Note this system was designed for VHS tape conversion meaning it does not output 1080 HD. When I play back on our laptops it looks real good. On the bigger TV screen 40 inch etc you can see a touch of pixelation at times. But guess what my VHS player shows worse artifacts when It is directly hooked up.

For the price this system is a bargain for preserving family memories and it does it quickly.
