If you try to use a PC headset where the headphones and mic are on separate 3.5mm plugs, the headphones will work but not the mic.I am recording my acoustic guitar with an app on my iPod Touch. I was not able to hear the first take while recording the overdub. I knew there had to be some kind of splitter without using the iPhone headset or something equivalent.
This is it! I can easily record my guitar with a studio quality mic, then listen the the first track while recording a second track. Works like a charm.

This splitter works just as advertised. I use it exclusively in my truck for playing music from my iPhone to the car stereo with a cassette adapter (Don't care for the wireless volume or quality) and because I haven't gotten with the whole 21st century wireless headset bunch yet, I leave my wired headset plugged into the second jack of the splitter specially designed for two way wired headset conversation. This way I do not have to switch out any wires while driving when a call comes in.
