Visual Land VL-G4 4GB MP3/MP4/FM Radio/Voice Recorder/1.8' Screen/Built in Speaker (Red)

Visual Land VL-G4 4GB MP3/MP4/FM Radio/Voice Recorder/1.8' Screen/Built in Speaker
  • 8 GB capacity for about 4,000 songs
  • 6 hours of audio on a single charge
  • 2.4-inch, 65K-color LCD display
  • Supports MP3, WMA, and WAV audio formats; AMV video format; JPG image format
  • One-year limited warranty

I bought this MP3 player for the advertised built-in speaker function. But the speaker is a joke. Even at maximum volume you still can barely hear anything. But the problem is not just with the built-in speaker. This MP3 player is very hard to navigate through or configure. Browsing music is complicated and you have to go to root directory to do that (kind of like old DOS... that's if you figure out how to get there).

There are no choices for playback screen or any other settings. You are stuck with the equalizer display. The text on the screen is so tiny and the screen is busy that you can hardly read it. It's difficult to know what's playing and good luck changing the volume. Browsing is just not intuitive on this unit. To make things worse, this MP3 player does not come with any manuals or documentations. So, you have to learn on your own. The provided USB cable is about 1 inch long... I am not kidding.

On the bright side, the sound quality is pretty good. The unit comes with a fitted silicone skin that is nice. If you can live with the very lousy user interface then you'll be happy with it.

THIS IS A GREAT MP3 FOR THE PRICE! I didnt understand how to use it at first because i have never downloaded music. i went to the visual land website and it was actually quite simple. you just drag the music to your mp3 after you download it. simple and i am not tech savy. i saw that THERE WAS A NEGATIVE COMMENT ABOUT THE SPEAKERS.... WELL mine are really loud so maybe that person just had a damaged product. I LOVED IT SO MUCH AND IT WAS SO SIMPLE ONCE I FIGURED IT OUT THAT I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD BROTHER. he also loves it. BUY THIS PRODUCT ITS AWESOME. imesh.com is a website that is legal and has free music sharing. it works great with this mp3 :)

the camera and video work decent in good light :)

The sound quality is very good. It comes with a wall charger, ear buds and a USB cable. It has the following features: Jpeg Picture Viewer, Supports various audio format, Video Playback, Upgradeable Firmware, FM Radio, Voice Recording, Various Playback Modes.

When connected to your computer, it appears as a USB drive, and you can move music/audio books/pictures onto it with drag-and-drop. Video files have to be converted to AMV format, and a utility to make the conversion is on the drive.

I selected this mp3 over others because it had a bigger display. The sample video looks ok, but I can't image waiting anything of length on it..

The user's guide is on the drive (pdf), but is only 4 pages long, including the trouble-shooting section. There is a FAQ on their website, but I didn't find it very helpful. The website claims they'll answer questions in 3 business days (it's been a week, and they haven't responded yet).

I'm finding the user interface irritating. It has four buttons laid out like compass directions. The menu button is what I would consider up, >> is right, vol is down and > symbols), but the >> button does not work to select an item. Instead, you have to use the menu (up) button. Maybe I'll get used to this. So far, I'm a slow learner.

There doesn't seem to be any way to make a play list. I think that you have to make play lists by creating directories to hold the play list music (this is one of my unanswered questions). The "random" music setting seems to only select songs in the same directory (this might be wrong it's another one of my submitted questions). On my previous mp3, I had the music stored in directories laid out by artist/album/songs and the play list just pointed to where the songs were. I miss my various play lists, where I could easily have the same song on two lists.

This mp3 has an on/off button on the top. You must have it on when charging, and you must have it off when you are not using it, else the battery depletes. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the unit through the menu interface when you are done. I'm used to just holding the menu button down for 2 seconds and having the unit turn itself off, so you won't be surprised to hear that I've used this mp3 twice, and drained the battery twice. Good thing it recharges quickly.

I think the playback (sound, video) qualities are excellent. If I can just get used to the primitive user interface, I might get to like it.

Want Visual Land VL-G4 4GB MP3/MP4/FM Radio/Voice Recorder/1.8' Screen/Built in Speaker (Red) Discount?

DO NOT PURCHASE... this item will not hold a charge and spontaneously deletes the downloads... spend the $$ for the iPod. Also, Amamzon will not refund me, doesn't have a phone number for the manufacturer or any other contact info for Visul Land. SCAM!!!!! Please, learn from my mistakes!

I bought these for my kids 5 & 9. When I copied music to them I could only access one Album folder instead of all of them.
