We have ours wall mounted over the couch with a projector, then feed a cable down to a separately powered subwoofer under the couch. It's been a great space saving setup for us, and after 2 years I happily recommend it.The good:
Excellent DVD playback at up to 1080p, remembers where you are in a DVD and all the settings (e.g. closed captioning, location in movie), and handles scratched discs as well as can be expected
Good sound quality with a lot of input and output options, including a separate subwoofer output
Compact size is great for us and unique among stand alone receivers and DVD players
Good build quality with a solid feel, no issues after 2 years of use
The bad:
You must use the remote for pretty much everything, even simple things like tuning the radio
Adding the bluetooth or ipod dock requires plugging into Yamaha's awkward dock connector, which extends the depth of the unit by 2 or 3 inches
It can be slow and sometimes even hang when using the dial on the face to switch modes (e.g. dvd to fm to aux). When it hangs, you need to power it off and then back on to get it to work.
Overall, this is a great, simple unit you can rely on, quirks aside. For anyone living in a compact space that wants separate speakers I highly recommend it. If you want oomf, just plunk down $100 on a separately powered subwoofer.

At the begining I was planning to buy a Onkyo Bose bundle system 2.1 channel for the staying room, however, I began to search around some other manufacturers and found this Yamaha DRX-730, I choose to buy it without the speakers, I bought speakers separately (JBL ES20BK) I received them this week end and ohhh God it is a really really impressing system, the sound is cristal clear or clearer jaja, I believe Gracie, should send back the system to be checked because mine does not show that annoying sound, yesterday I watched Ironman, and now I am watching Terminator 2 and both movies look really really good and the sound, oh my God, I really recomend this system to you if you are plannig to use it in a small room...Want Yamaha DRX-730BL Micro Component Receiver CD/DVD Player Unit (Black) Discount?
I've had the yamaha 730 cd/dvd player for a couple of weeks, now, and although I'm glad I bought it because it's little and allows me to add external speakers to a tv in a small, spare room, I find that I use a separate dvd player for watching dvds because the yamaha 730 (at least the one I have) makes too much noise when a dvd is played on it. In any quiet scenes the whirring of the 730 unit is very annoying. The sound that the unit puts out, though, when playing either of my other dvd players (a Philips multi region unit and a Pioneer unit) is fine. Luckily these other dvd players are satisfyingly quiet. The sound is also fine when I use the unit with the tv on regular cable channels.
For those interested in its other features I haven't tried them.I like it a lot. CD/DVD, Radio, Amplifier all in one. I would give 5 stars if it came with an iPod connector included with the price.
