Apen A4 Wireless Digital Recording Pen - Retail Packaging - Black

Apen A4 Wireless Digital Recording Pen - Retail Packaging - BlackBought the A4 model from Woot!, received it yesterday. Windows 7. Paid roughly $47 for it including shipping.

I haven't done much other than play with it but so far the pen meets my expectations. The pen wouldn't fire up at first but I took the batteries out of the pen, reinstalled them, and something magically began working. I like the way the pen digitizes my handwriting.

OCR is indeed less than stellar, but if you print in all caps and/or have very neat cursive handwriting it works fairly well, enough to be usable. I haven't even tried using it as a mouse, seemed to complicated to do so and don't need that functionality. The supporting applications seem a little primitive but they work, for me. If this continues to function as is it will help me organize my meeting notes, which is all I want.

I'm not sure this is worth $100, or $75, or however much else it costs depending on where you buy it. However, it's worth $47 to me, thus far.

The pen and the receiver works fine when working around the middle of the page. Around the top of the page it tends to not work very well or it could just be my grip on the pen...

I usually use it when I'm working without my laptop and when I plug it back to pc, the quality comes out readable but not perfect

I'd say it is great if you're using it for taking notes and writing stuff down, not for drawing or if you want high quality version of your writings

I used part of an Amazon Christmas Gift Card I received from my wife to buy this A4 pen just so I could draw on any paper with a ball pen and stream it live to my ipad, without having to upload anything other than the free ipennote from the app store, connect devices by provided cable and BINGO!! It really works!!!

I'm using this with an iPod Touch and OS 10.7. Haven't yet tried handwriting recognition, but it will be great for taking notes during meetings and classes. Already I've used it to sketch in the field for my landscape contracting business. No more lost, wrinkled, torn or wet field notes. Handwritten notes & sketches show up as TIFF images, easy to read and edit, either on the iPod or on the Mac desktop. Of course you can write and sketch in the field and then scan in your paper, as I've been doing, but this is so much more elegant! I'm going to love it.
