CALL MYNAH Universal Call Recorder for All Mobile Phones with Bluetooth Capability

This is not a review about this vendor, just the Call Mynah. If you want to use it with an iPhone running IOS5 you need to make sure the unit you receive has the following versions. SOFT V1.2.2M. HARD V0.4. DATE 18/11/2011 (or later). To see the version press Menu/3 settings/ 7 System/ * Version. If it does not, contact the USA office and arrange a swap. Shipping to them will be on you. The bug is in the bluetooth chip so a firmware update won't fix it, it must be replaced. The symptom is no voice communication to or from the called number. NOTE that this only applies to iphones. I tested my first unit with another cell phone and it worked perfectly.

As for the Call Mynah device, it works perfectly. It is styled to look like an iPhone only a little thicker and 2/3'rds the size. It has a membrane keyboard that will occasionally read a different key than the one you pressed. The screen & menus are simple enough to use and resemble the menus found on standard cell phones.

It charges via USB port which is also used to transfer the proprietary format recordings to your PC. Software is supplied to edit and reformat recordings. For MAC users they provide a discount code so you can purchase & install Crossover and run the software. I have not been able to get it to run yet, but I'll keep trying however the editing function is not that important to me.

The audio quality is good, and you can select 3 different audio qualities. The best quality uses more of the storage space than the lesser quality recordings.

Overall I am pleased with this device and it is the only way to record phone calls on the iphone other than subscription based web services. I would like to see Call Mynah come out with a version that has a more robust keyboard, perhaps with real buttons.

03/26/2012 Update I left the Call Mynah unused for about 2 months which drained the battery. I charged it and when I turn it on all I get is a blank white screen. I'm sending it back for repair or replacement under warranty.

the keypad is hard to navigate and difficult to find the "sweet spot" for the various buttons. A better keypad would likely change my opinion.

This is a total piece of crap. It simply doesn't work. It doesn't connect properly, and the one time that it did, the sound quality was awful. It also doesn't support Macs.

Hemmacher Schlemmer has just pulled it from its catalog. That's how bad it is.
