I did a lot of research before buying this. Micca seems to be one of the only companies currently making a digital media player with the ability to handle essentially every relevant format.It played every file type that I threw at it perfectly. The video quality is great, and it was easy to set up.
The UI is sloppy. There are unnecessary steps throughout the process. I'll still give it four stars for meeting my needs just fine.
the presentation is good, but I think that Micca can be better because wait for a update of one har disk of 160 GB take 5 or 10 minutes, I imagine make a search/update of one har disk of 1 TB or more than this.
I wait that firmware include other options, like a browser (with latest update of flash), maybe include wireless USB-Keyboard for use with internet, etc.
Summary, It's very good but I wait updates.I love this thing, works much better than streaming to my PS3. Great product! Only improvement i could see is a better remote. As other have mentioned line of site is required for the remote to work well.I originally owned a Micca "MPlayer" series unit, but I wasn't too crazy about the picture, which I found to be too dark, and the sound quality wasn't so hot either. But one day I accidentally inserted the wrong AC adapter into it and fried it. I'm almost glad I did it, because I purchased the EP250 G2 for a replacement. The picture is much brighter and the sound is noticeably better as well. Even standard resolution movies look very close to HD using the HDMI output. I haven't tried Blu-ray files yet but I'm sure they will look great. According to the manual, you can install up to a 4 TB hard drive. I've got a 320 GB drive in mine with so far; about 25 movies on it....it works flawlessly.
The only thing I don't like about it is when your playing .wav or mp3 files; it inserts a 2 second gap between tracks. This is OK in most cases, but when you're playing something like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, where all the tracks run continuously, it can be really annoying. The internet radio is a nice feature, but it must be connected with an Ethernet cable (It's not wireless).
It's definitely worth the price tag considering all the things this unit can do. It would be nice if it had access to internet movies like a Roku player, but maybe in time these Micca media players will evolve into something great.Received the product, set it up, no problem. Downloaded a firmware update to have the latest capability, no problem.
Very disappointed however... Wanted to be able to access websites for music or video streaming (live365, etc.).
Product lit says you can play Youtube, and other web stuff. Not so. Whatever you might want to access is "hardcoded" into the firmware so, you can't access streaming sites at will, unless already loaded. During my testing, I tried clicking on the youtube icon in its menu (implying you could access it), and it wouldn't work. Wrote to support, they told me that youtube changed its streaming address (?) or something to that effect, and they will change it in the next firmware release. That, to me, is really shortsighted. Just put a website address input capability, and you have way more capability and flexibility. Right now, i feel it is quite limited in (web access) functionality.
On the bright side, so far it has played any format video or music I have thrown at it, from USB or SD card.
UPDATE: This weekend tried to install a hard drive into the box, and contrary to the literature/propaganda, no brackets or screws were included in the box. Send a support msg, they told me they don't have them available. Sorry I bought it. Very limited benefit for me.
May 15, 2003 update: Someone asked if it can access netflix. NO. It does not access netflix, hulu, amazon prime, or any of the other popular sites. I just bought a Roku.
