Philips Universal Remote

Philips Universal RemoteWe bought the Philips SRU4105WM/17 recently for a Panasonic TV/VCR/DVD combo unit and an Insignia Digital Converter and a 15 year old Sony rack stereo system. I was able to program ALL UNITS to work with this remote.

We're very happy with this purchase. I had lost the remote to the Sony a long time ago and wasn't sure if this would work, but it does. I also didn't see any digital converters on the list of approved products that this works with, but after doing the search mode, it found my unit.

The learn feature is very simple and has worked every time for functions that the remote didn't automatically program in. You have to have the orignial remote if you want the new one to learn any functions. So there will probably be things with my Sony that it won't be able to do, but I can live with that.

The stickers are very handy. No more pushing 12-3 for PBS, I can just program it in for PBS Kids and push the button next to that sticker.

Great product. Worth more than the eight bucks I paid for it.

It was a Christmas gift. I love not having to remember favorite channels. It was easy for me to set it up. Ended writing the person who gave it to me to get the company name and product number as it isn't on the product (should be!). I need another one for another TV.

This product seems to be well made and it worked with my Samsung TV. It was easy to program for the TV but it did not have the capability to work with many of my DISH receiver controls. It would do some things but only the very basic things. Would not skip forward or backward. I plan to return it because it won't work with the DISH (I have a Hopper).

When I started programming for TV, DVD, and DTV Cable box I thought it was going to be easy. The TV code went in pretty easy and the DVD code went in well. Then in order to change channels I needed to be able to control the Digital TV converter. The website says

"No , because this product was developed before the DTV convertor boxes were developed.

If it is not mentioned in your user manual it's not supported.

Note : When your remote is able to learn key's you can use this option to control your DTV box "

The learning keys was going to be a little work but I had time. Then I started learning the number keys. One, two, three went fine but it would not take 4, 5, 6, 9, ch up, ch dn. That effectively makes the remote rather useless because it gives no way to change channels...

I have seen these advertised at fire sale prices but I don't recommend this remote. There is a good chance it will not work for what you want it to.

I like Philips remotes. They're the only replacement remotes I buy and they work well for me. I don't have a lot of products to use them on so I can't say how well they work for other electronics but for my tv sets, Toshiba and Panasonic, they work perfectly, and this one in particular. I love the favorites buttons and being able to mark them with stickers. It helps my grandson choose the channels he should be watching easily since he hasn't learned how to identify his numbers yet.

The shipping and delivery were also very quick.
