This unit not only does 3D but it can play 720 MKV and Xvid. Out of 400 movies in my library it only refused to play 2 of them. They were .avi but I got a "file format not supported" error. All my other .avi files played fine. I have yet to try any 1080p MKV. The 720 ones played back smooth as butter! This is a must have for anyone needing bluray and a media center all in one!

I'm setting up a new TV room and bought this little player for the new room and a new (undecided) TV. I set it up with my existing TV and love this little box. It could not have been easier found my wifi network and joined effortlessly. All apps seem to be working OK. Picture and sound are both excellent. Have not tried the browser yet.

I've been planning to install an AppleTV and Roku box in our new room with the new home theater setup. This player has the apps I need from Roku (Netflix, Hulu+, PLEX, etc.) PLEX even accesses my iTunes folders and plays all my video files. The end result is, even though I am a big fan of AppleTV and Roku, I don't need Roku or AppleTV to match what I currently have. (If you don't know PLEX look it up great media server, expecially for Mac users.)

I bought this unit "used" through Amazon for $93, including shipping. It arrived in excellent condition. Such a deal!

The last Samsung Blu-ray player bricked on account of the firmware update. Samsung Support/Customer Service sucks. Samsung Rep: if your reading this, you guys need to better, come on now. Anyway this model has been superb so far. Hopefully i dont need support. Everything does what is supposed to and it loads fast like a champ. Recap: this model is great and Samsung Customer Service is not... :/

The jury is still out on this blue ray player. I had to set the DVD region code when I received it, so I wanted to let others know via this review. No DVDs would load until I took this action.

I found these instructions on the net. This player does not have a tray, so I used the eject button in place of open/close. I also used the RETURN button instead of REPEAT. I skipped steps 4 & 5. I did not need a region-less player. Luckly, all is well and I was able to set region 1.

Below is a known process to unlock your region settings. Not 100% surefire.

1) Turn on the player with no disc in the tray

Wait till the unit is at the Samsung logo screen.

2) Open then close the tray, wait to see the No-Disc Message in the top Left Corner

3) Now press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit code.

In this case Repeat 29334 (Region 1 US)

Now it to me about 20 tries to get this to work, It needed to be done without delay.

So if you don't get it to work straight away don't loose heart.

4) When it works a 4 will appear in the top left corner

5) Press 9 to make it regionless.

6) Press Eject to OPEN to open the disc tray.

7) Press Eject to CLOSE to close the disc tray.

8) Power the unit off

9) Now power the unit on again, it should now read all regions of DVD Disc.

I had high hopes for this unit. I already had an older Samsung Blu-Ray player, but I read about some of the new stuff that you could do with their latest generation of players, so I felt it was time to upgrade. This was a bad move.

Specifically, I liked two major features of this model.... Disc to Digital and Smart Hub.

"Smart Hub" is something that Samsung includes in their top of the line TVs to essentially run third party Apps for things like NetFlix and YouTube. The hardware and the interface are pretty slow and clunky, as compared to Roku or Apple TV, but it works. The only problem for me was there weren't any decent Apps there that I couldn't run with my WDTV, Apple TV or Roku players.

"Disc to Digital"

Samsung announced their Disc to Digital program in January of 1012 as a way to let you insert your existing DVDs, then through a Flixter App, it was supposed to recognize that you owned them and then authorize an online account to let you play them in the future without inserting the disc. I loved this idea, but after an entire year has passed, this feature never actually was released.

Instead, the only Disc to Digital functionality they ever released was VuDu, which is owned by Walmart. Under this program, you can't just insert the disc into the player as they originally announced. Instead, you have to bring your discs to Walmart and pay $2 $5 per disc to add them to your VuDu account... then you can play them on the VuDu account. This is pointless for many reasons.

My biggest complaint about this is that other than the cost and inconvenience of having to bring my 1000+ DVD collection to Walmart and paying for each disc, is that there was still no reason to buy this newer player to make that happen. In Samsung's press releases, they made it clear you can only use Disc to Digital if you got one of the newer 2012+ models. So, I only bought this so I could use this feature, but in reality, once I bring the discs to Walmart, I can play them without the newer model because VuDu is already built into many other media players, such as XBOX, PS3 and Roku.

What a waste of my time and money.

That said, I still gave it 3 stars because it works as a Blu-Ray player. So, if you don't already have a BD player... this one works just fine. Just don't expect to see anything above and beyond any other player.
