I just purchased this camera with my wife. We were pretty surprised about the stats on the camera in comparison to the price. We were looking for a camcorder because of the birth of our first child. This camera seemed like a gift from the heavens and we got the camera delivered just in time. There were three issues that made me reconsider that praise though.Issue 1: The angle
To be honest the angle of the camera is pretty annoying and my wife was eager to return it because of it. I on the other hand kept pointing out that 12mp still images and 1080p recording was awesome. I tried to tell her we couldn't find another camera with similar stats for the same price. She agreed and on to recording video of our little kid.
Issue 2: Close-ups
I don't know the technical term but another thing that annoyed us was that the camera didn't take close up recording well at all. The lens didn't zoom out enough that it made close ups awkward and we always found ourselves backing up to take videos or pictures. Still made excuses for the camera to keep it.
Issue3: Audio Syncing
The final straw came with video and audio syncing problems. I turned the video recorder to it's highest settings. (1080p and 30fps) I purchased a class 10 32gb sd card to record the images/video. Then low and behold after shooting some really funny video of my kid, turns out the recorded videos have a sync problem. The video is pretty much corrupted. Now I understand this might also have been the sd card I was using (I tested the card with other media, works fine) but I no longer wanted to make excuses for this camera.
Final Outcome:
We returned it. I wouldn't buy this again unless I had an iron clad warranty. I don't recommend anyone else buy this camera either.I was hesitant to buy this camcorder, seeing no reviews for it on amazon. However, after having it on hand for about a week, I will say that this little camcorder is stunning. The full 1080p is breathtaking when used outdoors with flowers and is amazingly vibrant. And while the 10x optical zoom isn't anything astounding, the fact that you can see the crisp line of someone's contact standing several feet away is quite astounding. There are a plethora of options, changing everything from low light sensitivity to color themes. A few notes that you may not find in other reviews:
-While the slow motion is incredible, know that the more fps you take, the smaller the image ends up being. You won't be getting full 1080p in 720fps. And you are limited to recording in 10 second increments in slow motion.
-The photo button works WHILE FILMING (not 1080/60p) and also WHILE WATCHING A VIDEO. This means that while you are filming, you can take excellent high quality photos without switching to photo mode.
-Battery life is rather limited (80 minutes full charge), but extras are cheap online and it can record while charging via ac adapter.
-It does NOT have a microphone in jack. The built-in mic is decent, but zooming is picked up. If you are using this for anything other than home videos, then that won't be an issue, as you'll likely be cutting and editing audio over the video anyway.
I haven't yet learned all the functions of this camera yet, but from my short use it has proven its worth (I fortunately found it on sale for $150, but I'd happily pay twice the price). Great product!
