I hooked it up to my HDTV with an HDMI cable that I knew was good. I turned it on, and... nothing. I could hear the player reading the DVD, and the LED display showed that the DVD was playing, but the screen was blank. Frustrated, I guessed that the other reviewers were right, and I was ready to return it. Then I plugged it into my HDTV using the AV cable that came with the unit. Boom -Picture and sound!@

I navigated the on-screen menus and enabled the digital output and switched over to 1080p from the HDMI. The upconversion was crisp and clear and the sound was perfect. The on-screen guide was way easier to understand than the poorly-translated manual. I plugged in a USB drive just to try it out, and it immediately recognized it, found the photos on it, and allowed me to flip through them in full-screen, high resolution. I didn't try any other type of media, just JPG's. Another reviewer mentioned a grinding noise coming from the unit. Not so with mine. There was a whirring sound, but not distracting; I would say it makes less noise than my laptop does when playing a DVD.

The glossy black plastic and chrome unit has a nice minimalist aesthetic, and seems solidly constructed, except for the DVD tray which looks rather flimsy. All in all though, its a decent unit. And a good price for a player that upconverts to 1080p, and outputs standard AV, component, and HDMI. If only they enabled the HDMI output by default, they would save their customers plenty of frustration, and themselves many returned products.

The item shipped quickly, and it looked great! However, after I hooked it up it went down hill. When playing DVD's there was a horrible growling, grating noise at times, and I couldn't get any form of media to work with the USB port. Since the USB port was the deciding factor in my purchase, I just don't think this player was for us.

It works well. Very easy to connect to the tv. Has setup options that allow you to select the appropriate hd setting for your tv. It does whirl a bit when loading but stops as soon as it is playing. Very good basic dvd player. Very sharp picture.

I cannot thank the reviewer who mentioned you have to use the cables that come with the DVD player first before using the HDMI cable. Once you start with the A/V cables, go to the menu and change the output to HDMI and it will work from there. We have had no issues with out DVD player and the picture looks great. Great DVD player option for the price!
