I wanted video editing software to edit the movies from my new Panasonic HC-V700 HD video camera. I was not satisfied with the limited editing software that came with the camera. After reading the reviews on editing software, there was no product that stood out as perfect. I decided to take a chance on Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 since I am a satisfied user of their audio cleaning software. I downloaded a free 30 day trial (limits a movie to 3 minutes in length) to make sure it would work on my machine prior to purchase . I had no problem with installation or use on my Windows 7 system.

Since this is my first editing software I cannot compare it with others. However, it seems to do what I need and the price at the time was only $37. In the month I have owned the software I have successfully added titles, made cuts, added music, made video DVD's (no AVCHD blue rays yet), and uploaded directly to YouTube. After my purchased disc arrived it was a simple matter to put in the serial code to the trial version (which I thought was more up to date than the CD may have been) to make it permanent.

The software is not as intuitive to use as it could be. I usually don't read manuals first but just dig in and try things. I did peruse the 338 page PDF manual first this time. When something doesn't work like you expect, the manual does a decent job of helping you out.

I would recommend this software to someone looking for basic editing software that has the capability to meet your expectations as your needs grow. Definitely download the trial version first from Magix.com. Since I haven't used enough of the features and the software is not intuitive, I am giving it 4 stars this time.

I found this program to be very difficult to use. The documentation does not address how to begin very clearly. I was able to load a file, but I could not add a title card. When I would type any text it would superimpose the text on the first frame. None of the help screens address this problem. On their support site the questions answered seemed to be geared toward experienced users familiar with the software to some extent. This is the second program I bought from them. I did not have a good experience with their music program, but I thought it was my fault. I thought it was a compatibility problem with Windows 7. I gave them another chance, but I have not been able to use Movie Editor Pro. I will stick with Windows Live Movie Maker, which I have used several times successfully. It is much more intuitive, and for me easier to use.

I am using the trial of this for about 2 weeks. I have used other Movie editors from Magix for years so am not a novice to their products.

This one is next to useless, it's a problem saving 3 minute files, although at the bottom it goes thru the motions, sometimes it takes 3 attempts before successful..

The black/grey interface is almost unreadable causing serious eyestrain.

I could go on & on but don't wish to waste any more time.
