Opteka VB-30 Video Accessory Shoe Tripler Bracket for DSLR Cameras and Camcorders

Got it in today for a shoot I'm doing later with a 5Diii. Wanted to use my Rode video mic and SmallHD at the same time, which meant I needed more mounting points. Come this to the rescue . . . or so I thought. I should have just gone to the local shop instead. While it looks perfect and the pictures posted make it look great, in reality it has a giant screw on the base that rises it about an inch or more above the camera. It's not flush mounted. Top that with a small ballhead and it's stick way above the camera. I then tried to use an articulating arm with the SmallHD to bring it behind the camera and lessen the balance issue but the mounts are weak and will rotate. Not ideal.

I'm sure if you were using it for pocket wizards or a wireless receiver and small light it'd work. But that inch long screw is just way too much for me. You can also look at the pictures I've posted as well.

I make my living doing video production and tools that make my life easier are always appreciated. Bought this for my Sony Z1U to which I attach my Sennheiser wireless recvr. Prior, I had to tilt the camera up or lower the camera down off the tripod to view the battery/level meter on the recvr, and now it's right there in front of me either direct or to the side, depending how I mount the Opteka bracket. The extra shoes allow for mounting of an LED camera light with no problem. Sturdily built and fits in the camera bag. Several peers (video professionals) have asked where they could get one. Simple, elegant, well-built solution to a common problem.

this is a very unique product, i use it to mount mics & lights for video. very useful the only thing i havent figure it out is how to shorten up the long screw attached to it :/

Great built quality, just too much distance from splitter to base shoe on camera which makes it kind of worrying because it means everything relies on a long screw

it's ok, the metal is strong, but it just sits too high on my camera. the pic is false advertisement.
