Panasonic HDC-TM80K HD Twin Memory Camcorder (Black)

Panasonic HDC-TM80K HD Twin Memory CamcorderWith the exception of low-light environments, this camera has consistently produced high quality video and audio.

Keep in mind, this is NOT 1080p video, the highest quality this camera produces is 1080i 59.94.

Also, the software provided only works with Windows. If you have a Mac, you will need a converter in order to change the native .MTI files into something you can edit with Final Cut Pro or iMovie. The camera DOES have a iMovie mode but it drops the quality down to 720p.

The best feature about this camera is the built-in "montage" that automatically makes a presentation of your videos and adds some music that ranges from classical to 80's car commercial pop style. It's actually pretty hilarious to watch since it makes some clips in slow motion, adds zoom where there wasn't any before, and adds quick cuts between different video clips which makes it seem like a music video.

Overall, it's a great little camera that produces great quality video. Just make sure you are prepared on the computer side because that can be very frustrating if you are trying to edit the 1080i videos on a Mac.

I am hoping to save someone else a lot of the time I have spent over the past 2 weeks reviewing camcorders. I was just looking for a good camcorder to tape my daughter's vocal performances, so low-lighting was a must, along with decent audio, the best zoom, and a quick playback. I started out trying the standard definition but after trying a few, I soon decided the HD was the better choice. After trying Sony and another Panasonic, I finally found what I was looking for in the Panasonic HDC-TM80. I was fully prepared to have to also invest in addtional software, after reading all of the reviews here at Amazon regarding the HD Writer 3.0 and Windows. It loaded well onto my Windows Vista (32 bit#, but when I tried to burn to a DVD, an error message came up after 98 percent complete. I then pressed cancel, but by mistake, I put it into my PC and it played fine. I then tried it on the TV #standard, not HD) and was amazed that our dvd player, which usually doesn't play most home dvd's, accepted it and the quality was fantastic! I'm sure at some point I will encounter some sort of a block with the Panasonic software, given the reviews I've read, but for now I'm happy and this is exactly what I need. Thank you Amazon for these great reviews....they are always so helpful! And, I would have purchased this from you but I needed the internal memory, which you do not offer in this model.

I bought this camera to record my kids playing sports and doing various other activities (i.e. things in motion). I'm finding that it has good quality when filming things that are pretty much stationary and require no or very, very slow panning, but whenever you need to pan to record anything in motion the resulting video is a blurry mess. Some of the videos I have of my kids playing soccer make me nauseous to watch due to the horrible blur. I have tried all the various settings that I thought would help this but nothing fixes it. I have a Panasonic mini-DV camera from 2005 that does a MUCH better job of this, so much so that I'm probably going to switch back to it. Had high hopes for this camera, but I've come away very disappointed...

The quality of video is superb and the amount of manual controls is more than adequate, at least for my purposes (I use it for jewelry videos in a studio environment, with an enclosed AC adapter). The fully automatic mode is very good, too. The lens is sharp, right contrast, right color rendering. I got exactly what I wanted to get. Very happy.

Panasonic HDC TM80K is compact, light and, most importantly, records great HD videos and digital photos. It features an unbelievably clear night recording under very low light conditions, perfect daylight recording and fantastic shake-free zoom capabilities. The unit's functions are very easy to understand and to use. The transfer between the unit and my Mac Book Pro was seamless, using IMovie program.

Prior to purchasing, I went to the closest Best Buy store and compared Panasonic HDC TM80K to its closest rivals (in the similar feature and price range), Sony and Cannon, and, by far, this model had more and better features, superior image quality, better portability and was better priced. It is also made in Japan.

I am very happy with my purchase. I saved about $100 by going through Amazon.com.
