Shopping for a DVD player, one basically looks for picture, features, good price and reliability. We picked this machine because it was feature-loaded and on sale at Circuit City. We basically crossed our fingers and hoped the picture was good enough and reliability would work out. We found that this machine does have an impressive array of features. Also, if you are looking for great sound, this is a terrific machine in that respect. However, the picture has been a great disappointment. We noticed lines ("wrinkles") around figures on the screen, a washed out appearance to the screen and none of the 3-dimensional quality that one can find in decent DVD players which also produce a razor-sharp picture, sadly missing from this machine. The movies watched looked like old movies on a rural TV station. At one point in DVD's we have watched, the machine would pause, garble, seem to sputter before getting back on track with reading the DVD--we think this might be due to the layering in DVD's which some machines unfortunately have trouble dealing with. This apparently is one of those. We are disappointed that our attempt to save a few $$ was not successful, but fortunately we have the ability to exchange for another machine from the kind people at Circuit City.

Buy Philips Magnavox DVD611AT DVD Player Now

When I was searching for info on DVD players I found a few reviews on other web-sites from consumers who had this DVD player and complained that it skipped. Therefore, I bought it with the understanding that it might not met my needs. It has performed wodnerfully. I have not experienced any skipping or other problems with the player. With that said it is a very basic DVD player. There aren't any fancy frills on it, but I wasn't really looking for any. I wanted something that was easy to use, had a component video and audio output, and would do a reliable job of playing my favorite movies. The 621 does that at a price that I liked.

Making the move from laptop to 27" TV DVD has been a thoroughly enlightening experience. This entry level Magnavox player does the job...it played The Matrix and Sleepy Hollow without a hitch. It froze on one movie, until I cleaned a highly used rental disk with dishwashing liquid and hot water, taking the oily fingerprints off it and allowing it to play smoothly. Sound is ravishing, even without the S-video and digital audio hooked up (my old Sony TV doesn't have such connections). And what a price, esp. with the coupons available these days.

Want Philips Magnavox DVD611AT DVD Player Discount?

I am a college student and this summer i decided i wanted to buy a dvd player for my dorm room...the Philips DVD/CD Player DVD621AT has been an excellent player...both in sound and video...have had absolutely no problems...any problem that might occur with video or sound would probably be from the tv or from buying cheap connection cords...do yourself a favor and buy quality heavy duty cords from radio shack rather than the (...) $5 from wal-mart...anyway...this is a great dvd player for a great price...

Absolute Garbage! freezes, skips, refuses to load DVD, buttons on face or remote inoperable while DVD is stuck inside. Don't buy this, just returned mine to Circuit City and purchased a different brand. DVD's that wouldnt work, or worked poorly on Magnavox, work flawlessly on new Machine.
