This product is really inexpensive it takes the voltage from the phone line, uses capacitors to isolate the phone line from the recorder, and then uses resistors to attenuate the voltage level down to microphone level.

Included with the box shown on amazon are a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm stereo patchcable about 6" long and a similiar length telephone cable.

The case is plastic without any good shielding I did pickup a hum at -55 db (referenced to 0 dB digital recording)

Be sure to check with local codes about recording calls while most of the united states only requires ONE party in a conversation to KNOW they are recording themselves, some states such as california require BOTH parties in the call to know that you are being recorded to avoid wiretapping rules. I'm not sure about what happens when banks announce "this call may be monitored or recorded" so my interpretation based on that message is that the other end is telling me they may record the call so they already know they are recording it, and I know I'm recording it, so both parties know its being recorded.

This product works well with Comcast's VOIP modem. Acceptable signal to noise ratio with a minimum of background hum, or hiss. I regularly record phone conversations with credit card companies, and the like for my own, "quality assurance". I have this hooked to my desktop's Soundblaster SE soundcard, and record with Audacity (freeware), with excellent results. The nice thing about this product is that it connects to the phone line, rather than between the base and handset of a desk phone. This allows recording of calls on any phone in the house, so if my wife is talking to, say, the mortgage company and she wants me to record, whatever phone she is on will record to my computer. This is a "must have" product for everyone who has ever had trouble with promises and package deals from companies like Comcast, Direct TV, Dish Network, etc.

Tried this product on a conventional Qwest phone line, and the audio was inaudible over the line noise. It's definitely worth the 8 bucks to try it, depending on your phone service.

I use this adapter with a RCA digital recorder, hooked up with Magic Jack through Verizon Fios internet service and I can record a conversation with a credit card company. The voices are clear, however there are some background noise, sound like a machine running, but not too noticable. For my purposes of using this device, it's good enough for the price!

The cord fell apart in my hands the first time I tried to use it. I saw the other reviews saying it wasn't great, but figured for $3, why not give it a shot -I don't need high quality recordings. The $3 is irrelevant -you will waste more valuable time.

Has a horrible 60hz buzz. I cannot recommend this product. Since it is so inexpensive I found that is easier to just throw it out and chalk it up to a bad experience.
