Purchased this unit for a road trip. I was very impressed with the packaging, all the accessories (unit sleeve for mounting on a seat, remote control etc). Unit seemed well done and made a great impression straight from the box, so much so I did not even feel I need to test it prior to the trip. Mistake.

The power cable to connect to the cigaret lighter was less than 36". Too short to connect and have the unit mounted to the back of a seat. The unit did not play any DVD disks. We tried 7 different ones. Always a message of NO DISK.

Upon our arrival I tied playing a movie from a USB drive. No luck, the message was that the codex was missing. (mp4 format)

I am returning the unit.

The player's close to the size of a standard notebook computer with an impressive long lasting battery life, able to be used with or without an external power source.

Very inexpensive cost. The cd player has continued working over the past several months without error. Like the collapsible monitor for transport and protective value.

First unit received:

I hope mine is an isolated incident, but when I received my unit I quickly discovered that the spindle motor (the one that spins the disc) makes a loud clicking noise while running. It's loud enough to be heard over the sound of the dvd audio. Returning and considering getting a replacement or trying a different player.

Second unit received:

Much quieter than the first. There's still some motor sound, but I'm probably more sensitive to it than I was with the first one. I let it play a couple DVDs and it had no issues. It does take a little while (10-20 seconds) to switch between modes, particularly when switching to DVD mode, but not horrible if you have a bit of patience.

I also tried a USB stick with a number of different files and formats. All of them played. The only one that I had an issue with was a higher-resolution file that it had keeping up with the video on. The video was very jerky stalls for half a second, then a ton of frames go by quickly as it catches up to the audio. So lower resolution files are more likely to work. I haven't tried testing battery life for every long, except for about a half hour of use when the power went out and my son needed something to watch (kids these days) and it played for at least that long with no issue. There doesn't appear to be any battery indicator anywhere so no idea how long it would actually last. My guess is that it should last significantly longer playing from a USB or SD card given it doesn't have to keep the DVD spinning.

Overall satisfied the second time for the price.

Update after using it on a trip:

I must have picked the right DVDs to try before, because most of the DVDs my son wanted to watch on our trip would not be identified the unit continued to say "No DVD" even for some brand new discs we had bought for the trip. We had also picked up a couple DVDs from the library and some had been recorded on DVD-R discs would would also not identify in this player. The few DVDs that did work skipped a lot, especially during the first 10-15 minutes of the disc. Fortunately I had a couple movies already on a USB drive and those played fine, but unfortunately they weren't all the videos my son really wanted to watch.

Also annoying: you have to remove the player from the included headrest holder to change the disc, and the 12V adaptor cord was way too short, especially for the driver-side headrest since the power connector is on the left side of the unit.

I bought a different brand DVD player from Amazon and had it shipped overnight so we would be able to survive a trip back, and this new unit plays all the DVDs I have perfectly. Unfortunately I've had this one just over 30 days so now it'll cost me to ship it back. So much for trying to be prepared early for my trip!

i love this player. great for traveling and little kids. you flip the screen and kids cant reach any buttons. remote control works great. overall would recommend it to anyone. great value for the price.

I received the player set it up to charge and after ten hours the orange light was still on, it would not fully charge. The next problem is plugging the power into the player, you have to really push it in to get it to make contact and it would slip back. I just sent it back per Amazon. No I don't recommend this at all
