GE 24958 6-Device DVR Infrared Universal Remote Control

Got this remote to end the dilemma of the multiple remotes in the basket above out headboard and it does everything I want. The bride likes to watch TV at night and was getting frustrated having to always dig around to find the right remote.

ProsIt has the learning function, which enabled me to overwrite the TV channels in favor of my cable box, as well as the audio controls. It also has plenty of learning memory. The codes supplied with the remote operate all my equipment, and it has an audio "punch through" feature which means no matter what mode I'm in the audio controls the stereo amp. The unit is also backlit so it can be seen at night. for under $10 this was truly a bargin. I also own a $100 logictech remote and can honestly say that this one is a much better remote.

Consthe unit is not as ergonomic as some I have owned as it is very boxy, but this is a minor nit. Also there are one or 2 keys which are not well lit and are hard to see at night. Finally the backlight is red instead of white, but you can still see the button labels.

i should add that the electronics in the bedroom are a few (4-5) years old or older. i have never tried this with newer equipment, so I'm not sure how well it will work. other reviewers have had problems with new stuff, but for me it was a realy great remote.

I was gifted an older flat panel TV that was manufactured 5+ years ago (it's now 2012.) I wasn't sure if this remote was going to work with it, but thankfully it did!

The TV is a Samsung (it's so "old" it can't even be mounted onto the wall.)

The only thing I didn't like about this remote was that it lights up red. I would have rather it was more subtle, but the quality of this remote is great. At various stores you can pay more and get less, so I'm quite pleased with my inexpensive remote. I haven't connected it to any other devices, my primary reason for purchasing was mainly for my TV. I just don't like those universal remotes that are small and feel cheap, this one is "full sized" and while it's light, at first glance you wouldn't know it wasn't the original remote.

THIS REMOTE DOES NOT WORK. I purchased two of these. I have a Vizio TV, AppleTV, Comcast Cable. I tried every Vizio code: none of them worked. I tried learning the Vizio codes...worked sporadically at best. I tried learning the AppleTV codes: worked for cursor up, everything else produced an error code. Tried resetting the whole remote numerous times. This is likely a really old remote that only works on old equipment. Buyer beware.
