Took me an hour, with my my magnifier glass to read the instructions and get it working. The instructions are so small. Took me a while to find where the micro sd memory card went.
Just plug it in to power once you have the memory card in and have pushed the button once,Now you are recording. Picture is pretty good in good light. I was running Windows XP and it found the camera and memory card right a way on my computer.
You need to get an extension usb cable, if you have to put it more than 4 feet away from a power plug. It uses a 110vac to usb power supply.
I might add, when it detects motion, it records in 30 min blocks. The camera works so far. I had to use a class 10 data card since my class 4 wouldn't work. Also haven't figured out how to get it to use motion detection so I just leave it recording. I followed the instructions several times and it would look like it was doing motion detection then when I checked the card I found it was just recording continuously. Not a big deal to me. I have it looking down my driveway and it has a decent quality picture.

I had great expectations and eagerly set up the camera as soon as it was delivered. Unfortunately, nothing happened when I plugged it into the external power source. Nothing happened when I plugged it into my laptop's USB port. I pressed the on/off button several times while I tried to power it on again. I inserted the micro SD card and tried to turn on the camera again, pressing the button several times with each try. Nothing happened. I couldn't use the CD disk because my laptop has a standard CD/DVD reader, not a mini. I have returned the camera and am waiting for a working replacement.
