This JVC A/V receiver delivers most of what it advertises and, for most home theater users, that is more than enough. The case is a bit bulky, but very sturdy. Front controls are easy to follow, and the remote is very user friendly.

The receiver is generous in the number of inputs allotted, so that a user can connect VCR/DVD/CD/Television/Tape smoothly, quickly and with little or no confusion. The 6000VBK also gives the user a choice of digital or analog input. All of the connections are both logically and conveniently placed, making set-up a relatively painfree process.

Up to six speakers can be connected, four front and two rear, plus a sub-woofer. At 100 watts per channel, that's enough power to knock the walls down with anything approaching a decent speaker. I run my system with 15-inch woofers, and the base response is so powerful that a sub-woofer in unnecessary.

There are two minor weaknesses in the 6000, and they are just that, minor. First, the instructions stress that trying to connect a graphic equalizer in-line with any other component will cause distortion in the sound, particular on the low end or at high volume. The receiver features bass-boost and adjustable bass and treble levels, in effect providing an internal low-end equalizer, so this becomes a non-issue. Second, although the JVC 6000VBK claims to automatically switch the required video feed signals on the attached television/monitor, I have been unable to make that feature function properly. However, since this is easily accomplished at the television itself, it has no adverse effect on the performance of the receiver or any attached components.

Overall, this receiver is an exceptional value, delivering top-end performance at a budget price. Highly recommended.

This receiver is an amazing deal for the price... I purchased it for my new apartment in MD. My family owns a high-end receiver, and the JVC is much better in my opinion... it is really easy to use and interface, and serves an entire home audio/video theatre... The sound it produces with the digital connections is unbelievable, and if you can hook up multiple speakers to enjoy the amazing surround sound, it is well worth it... I have 2 floorstanding 350 WATT KLHs as well as 2 100 WATT Aiwas and a KLH sub... the power this system can produce with its 5 100 watt channels is amazing, and i never knew that my aiwa speakers(which I use as rear surround speakers) could ever sound this good. The center channel sound from this machine is plainly bad. And just try to get support!

It's off the market by now, but don't bother spending the money.

This is almost an ideal receiver. I have 2 problems with it. First, there are not enough video inputs. I had to plug my PS2 in through my VCR since the only video in are VCR and DVD. That knocks off one star. The other star goes because my display window slowly stopped working. At first I could tap it and the display would work again, but finally it just quit, and this happened in less than a year. I'm sure it's a fluke everyone gets a bad egg once in a while.

This receiver is old tech, heavy, and gets hot quickly. I bought it as a replacement receiver for a similar year and model JVC which I accidentally blew out during a move--wrong voltage was selected when I plugged it in. The replacement is now serving admirably ....
