No hard drive-completely useless. It was advertised as coming with one. You get an empty DVR casing. This is stupid and inconvenient. Skip this cheap crap; I should have. Go ahead and pay the few extra hundred bucks for one that is ready to go out of the box. Added later--Zmodo's customer service is almost non-existent. The dvr takes an act of congress to format because the default admin codes on their website do not work. No one responds to live chat, and the 800 # for tech support keeps normal office hours which are useless if you are at work during that time like I am. The manual is buckshot with tech jargon no normal person can understand, nor are there any pics or diagrams to help. Once I finally got the system working, the user interface is simple enough, but the picture is dark and grainy at all times. Knowing what I know now, I would have gladly paid twice as much for a plug and play, simpler to use and set up system. Heck, I'd settle for better customer service. I'll keep this, but only because it's finally hooked up and running, and I don't want to go through the hassle of getting another system and figuring it out. PS, if you are ordering from EZoomTek, don't do it. They'll hassle you until you can't stand it in order to get you to remove the negative feedback you will surely leave them.

The unit itself works good but the cameras are not good quality. I bought a Sony camera and it is crystal clear when I added it to my system. Also the night vision is not good except on the Sony cam. If you turn up the brightness to see with the night vision on the cameras that came with it, then it is way too bright during the day.

This surveillance system is ideal for my budget. Great clear view during the day of course but at night, not so much unless the camera is pointed directly at what you want to monitor and is no further than about 10 to 15 feet. Its very hard getting it to stream online when your internet company will not allow you to port forward the network. Im att and have a motorola modem/router. I spent at least 10 hours total trying to figure this out and plus trying to add an additional router that allows port forwarding. Useless product if stolen and no video record online to review who stole it.

Easy to setup. If you don't mind crawling through your attic, easy setup. Quite device and low heat, which is important for my closet.
