Aiptek DV-S ISDV32B MP4 Digital Camcorder and Still Camera with Built-In MP3 Player (Blue)

I have had this video camera for over a year, originally purchased to record my dance practices. For $, it has definitely done the job, and with indoor lighting the quality is surprisingly good. The most amazing thing about this camera though, is it is tough. A couple of months ago I dropped it from a height of almost 5ft, which cracked the back casing but the camera still works as well as ever! You can see my Belly Dancing video at to see the video quality after I dropped the camera. The colors are a bit off but for $50 I didn't really expect much, the colors were not affected by the drop. I am upgrading to another camera though, because this does not do well in the bright sunlight. At noon and other very bright times this camera does not hold details on faces well at all from a distance of more than 12 feet. Still, I am giving this camera a very high rating because it is tough, inexpensive, and more than met my expectations.

Got it for my 14 year old for his birthday and he loves it! I am surprised at the clarity of pictures and video. He has made lots of "movie" clips and has had a lot of fun with it. It is small enough to take everywhere, but big enough to handle easily.

I am really disappointed in this product. I read reviews from others that seemed fairly positive. I purchased this for my 8 year old son as a Christmas gift and felt the price point was great and the features seemed enough for his use. From the time we got it, it seemed to have poor battery life. It almost seemed as if closing the screen didn't turn the camera off. I decided to invest a few more bucks and get the best batteries I could. I bought Energizer ultimate lithium and loaded them up. Almost immediately the screen displayed "low battery" despite the fact that the battery meter showed it as full. I tried other batteries and the same thing happened. I tried everything I could think of to get it to work; nothing helped.

So off I went to e-mail tech support. The only response was "remove the memory card" and "use nimh rechargeable batteries". What? Nowhere did I see that this camera only supported rechargeable batteries, and one would assume that if it has a memory card slot it supports memory cards, right?

Unfortunately I am beyond my 30 day return policy so it looks like I have a blue and silver paperweight. I would stay away from this camera and maybe spend a little more to get a brand name that is more reliable.

The batteries do okay unless you are in record mode. Then they will drain in about 2 minutes! Unless you have several rechargeables on standby, I would not recommend this item. There is NO built in battery with AC power cord!
