I bought this unit in October 2011 (not through amazon). I placed a 2TB internal Seagate Green HDD. All types of movie files are played by this media player without any problem. Occasionally, I would upgrade to the latest firmware made available at the manufacturer's website.Although, I've had problems with connecting the 500X2 to a PC via USB3.0, which I found out to be a file system problem but the online community has been of great support and the firmware is being released to address any bug issues.
Note, if you will just use the unit for watching movies only, then this for you. If you intend to use it also for bittorrent downloading, then you may have to look somewhere else, since BT function is working but I've encountered several issues when trying to use this function.
