Olympus markets this device as a professional dictation device, which apparently justifies the high price. However, it lacks the most basic file editing functions of append, overwrite, insert, partial delete. It's a nice recorder but not a dictating machine. If you make a mistake on a recording you have to start over.

This is a handy item for recording just about any kind of situation. I am a court videographer and take a feed out of my mixer into the Olympus so I can have an audio recording just like on the video. I can download the mp3 into my PC and e-mail it to a court reporter without any hassle. It is small enought to carry in my pocket and the mic that comes with it is also very sensitive, however, I can remove it and plug into my mixer and get the audio exactly how it sounds on the video. Downloading is simple, the unit is very easy to use and will record an enormous amount of data. I usually download right away so it is unlikely that I would ever fill it up. It is made of plastic and feels cheap for the money, but I don't intend to abuse it and the recording quality is fantastic. I recieved the Olympus Digital Recorder very quickly and would purchase again from this company.
