Excellent for those who want to build video camera security system, have already camera or two, or plan to buy camera to exactly match the needs (indoor or outdoor, infrared or not, with own lights or not). This recorder has amazing flexibility, is programmable in many ways, can be programmed to be triggered by movement of any element of picture, also can be set to start the recording some short time before it was triggered. Can use two cameras with switching recording between them or selectable which camera to record. Can also record continuously or in selected time intervals, programmable every day of week separately or same repeated routine. Brilliant for such little money. Records on SD card. I use it already for more than 2 months, recording on 16 GB card. After each night, if nothing happened I erase the card to prepare for next night. If something worries me, I can preview recording on monitor directly from recorder with up to 20x speeds to see the offenders in action. I can easily take card to home computer to preview on big screen and copy. Continuous recording is recorded in 30 min chunks, so it's easy to pick up relevant piece of recording and copy only this one for records keeping or for police. Every recording has a time stamp on each frame.

I will be soon buying second recorder to expand my security area and number of cameras. Annoying and somehow terrorizing us very aggressive graffiti never shown up again, after wall was professionally washed, and cameras installed. After wheels were stolen from neighbor's car, our car is monitored every night and they are aware of it.

Every of you having my problems go for it. It already paid off many times of it's value for me, offering real protection and taking constant worry off my head.

I have never felt so frustrated and ripped off. I took it out of the box to connect to my cameras. I installed the memory card, the card did not fully seat and sat part way out. Then it is go. The video was choppy and cut in and out every couple seconds in the room I was sitting in.

Don't waste your money on this thing. Technology has come a long way, but in my camera I only find poor recording quality, poor workmanship all wrapped up in a very small and light package.

Mine was dead on arrival.The reason I'm giving it a 3 star and not 1 star is because i called technical support and i explained what is doing [nothing] and they told me to send it back because it was a bad unit and would replace it.But because i bought it thru amazon prime I'm sending it back to amazon.I have ordered another one and will update when i receive it
