I bought and used this unit for a few months. And I really thought it was great. After about 10 weeks the remote stopped working. I tried new batteries, checked the battery placement in the remote, and several other things. And nothing. I could get the unit to power up if I plugged it into the power outlet, and I could get the on-screen display. But the remote just would not work. And there is NO other universal programmable remote that has a code for WD. So you are stuck with a cheap non-working remote. When I called WD on Sept 13, it seems that this is not warrantied. Sorry folks, just got to buy a new WD brand remote. And the remote is really cheaply made! It seemed fragile when I first got it out of the box, and it proved to be just that. BAD. I cannot recommend the unit just because of the remote. Too bad, really. They had a nice thing going, but will not back it up.
There is nothing better than being able to carry a weeks worth of entertainment in my pocket on a flash drive and tiny Western Digital player, connect it to the TV, and enjoy HD movies and TV shows without a big bulky DVD player. I also take it camping All I need is a flat screen computer monitor, the WD player, a car battery and a small inverter and I can get about 40 hours of prime entertainment while camping in the woods without power. It's also great for when the power goes off at home. It has no motors, no moving parts, and is pocket sized and draws only 12 volts a miracle. I really got a good price too.
