This unit has very good features for the price. Large disc storage, records in D1 and CIF, and has a decent user interface to a directly connected monitor. What was not evident from their ads, nor from any specs that could be found on-line or acquired from the importer, was that this device requires a PC running Internet Explorer and ActiveX. This is the only full function, network accessible, computer interface that is provided.Since I am a Mac user this really does not work and its reliance on ActiveX is problematic at best from a security point of view.
I was able to get this unit to work using WinXP on the VMWare emulator, but only via the IE browser with ActiveX enabled. Neither of the PC based tools that they provided in the distribution worked to control the unit from WinXP. There is also an iPhone app, MobileEye+, that works to remotely review the status of the video, but it only provides CIF level viewing and I have 700 TVL cameras. There is no option to increase the resolution. There are no instructions on how to configure the device to work with SecuritySpy or Vitamin D software.
If you have a PC and are willing to run IE and ActiveX this may be a very good, cost effective, unit. If you are a Mac user or have issues with IE & ActiveX, shop somewhere else. Exelon, LiLin, Seyeon and Vivotek all offer networked servers that have these high resolution features and support Macs as well as PCs.
