The swivel option is cool. The only reason I do not give this a better review is because the battery life is relatively short. You are lucky if it lasts two hours.

Other than that I like the fact that it plays multiple formats. That is the reason i picked this particular player.

After one year this player stopped playing the dvds consistently. I purchased the Hiteker tvdvd combo and it works great.

Got this for my daughter for Christmas. I love the USB option. But the USB won't stay in. She hasn't even had it for even a month and now the DVD stopped working. It says no disc or it starts to play and freezes. Complete waste of time and money.

I have been using this recorder for several weeks. I purchased the microphone that allows you to record calls on a cell phone (or any phone). I find it very easy to use. The controls are easy to understand. The sound quality is very good. The USB cord makes it very easy to transfer files onto my PC. I like the easy procedure for transferring files from my PC to the Recorder. I enjoy listening to music and audio books. I have transferred several mp3 files, and listened to it as if it were an mp3 player. A much easier, user friendly, mp3 player. I have owned several voice recorders. The others were manufactured by others. I have always been disappointed. But this one does everything I need it to do.

I am disabled. Due to a medical condition, I have very little feeling in my finger tips. This Olympus Digital Voice Recorder allows me to record in situations that preclude me from writing notes. I can barely use a pen. But I have no problems with the buttons and switches on the Olympus. It has a large capacity, and the batteries are holding up very well.

This little digital recorder certainly performs, no doubt about that. As far as any issues with quality, I have yet to find any real drawbacksit is always helpful to remember for a 2GB device, you're getting a *lot* of punch. I've had mine just over a monthwith the case, at a price around $62, now they seem to be selling at $69, and my Seller now has them listed at $89... (?). NOTE: I just checked 3/11/12, and the price is back down to around $66 (?) again!

I can see the tech features they've packed into this tiny recorder (it is NOT 1.2 lbs) and the USB cable is definitely included. But other elements, well, without too much effort, you have to work out on your own. Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of clarity in the instructionsspot on. The 'forced' use of Folders A-E, not sure why they're not an option. I also get more accustomed to accessing the files on the recorder related to date and time, but when you move them to a PC, the naming convention is by file order. Not that big of a problem, except when you erase a recording, it re-orders the files, so there's no continuity when you move them to your PC. (**UPDATE:To be clearit doesn't RENAME the files or Resequence them, it just confuses ya because {I} get more accustomed to looking for the files via WHEN I recorded them... It would be better IMHO, if the naming convention stuck to a date/time stamp method.

When you're in menu mode, it can be too easy to change a setting without knowing it. And after 5 minutes of non-use the recorder goes into 'standby/sleep' modeif you're not watching the screen you'll miss the "See You" message, and likely forget that any key wakes it up. I'm not sure how that varies to actually shutting the recorder off, battery-wise.

None of those small distinctions, of course, are documented. Over all, that's pretty petty stuff, but the technology is there, so c'mon, Olympus, give it to us! Oh, and if it comes with a case, it should come with a lanyard as well :)

Those are the minor reasons I gave it only 4 stars, otherwise, it's petite, records well, durable, has plenty of other flexibilities found on some higher end recorders, so don't pass this one up due to the minor issues... just be aware... and go make some great recordings!

I commonly use SP mode/.wma files and No Rec Scene, so I'll easily get 260+ hrs. of recording time, and that's great quality for my needs, and sure beats carrying around (and mangling) tons of 90 min. tapes. (That's a 'middle' quality setting, you can more than double the time available by adjusting the settings.)

I just got my Olympus 8100PC late yesterday and I'm already able to record and playback! Considering I'm not the most technology savvy person going, I was able to set the time. For anyone who is having trouble reading the instructions (they are NOT what I'd rate 5 stars!) this is how I started off:

Setting Time and Date

Push the OK/Menu button in the center of recorder and hold for a few seconds. (It will bring up a menu). Using the minus key, scroll down to "Device Menu" (it's all the way to the bottom and there may not be enough room for it to show up until you scroll all the way down to it). Highlight it, and push the OK/Menu button.

Select "Time and Date" and push the OK/Menu button again. Using the directional arrows on the sides of the OK/Menu button, set the date and time. When you have finished, push the OK/Menu button, then push the "STOP" key. It's all set!!

Once you have gone through this process, you will find the others less confusing! I hope this helps someone!

Had the recorder for about a month now and the battery still hasn't died and i use it about every day for 3 hours. The battery life is AMAZING!!!!!! it picks up sound pretty well although if the mic is not facing toward the person talking or if it's more than 2-3 ft away you'll have a hard time hearing the recording. Not so great in picking up sound as i though. On the contrast glad it came with a case and so happy i don't have to spend a lot of money on batteries. Also i really like the different folders you can record in so you don't get your recordings mixed up. I read in a review before that it said this recorder doesn't have a pause button, however it does, if you press record after it was recording it pauses and i think it can pause up to an hour. anyways i think it was great......

This is my first digital recorder. The instructions could have been a little more detailed, but I figured them out with little problem. I felt it was user friendly and have already downloaded to my computer, easy and simple. The only thing that I was a little dissappointed about was the playback volume. I looked to see if I could adjust the record volume but didn't see that option.

I love the system and it's capability of handling up to 16 cameras! It comes with 8 color cameras and 60 ft BNC cables for each camera. 60 ft is an adequate length for most homes, but if you have a two-story, you may need to purchase additional wires or extensions. I have a two-story home and 60ft will not be enough for a couple of runs. Before attempting to install outside, I connected all cameras and powered up the DVR. A monitor is not included in this price, so you must have your own computer monitor. I am using on a 19" LCD monitor. I connected all cameras and they worked well. Motion-sensor capabilities worked flawlessly. Any activity/motion triggered immediate recording. I have climbed into attic and other crawl spaces to determine how I will run wire to a central location in my home. I would love to connect to my new TV because then I can monitor all cameras by turning on my TV. (TV must have PC interface). so the process of installing externally is still underway, but at least I know everything works out of the box. I only have one complaint about this internal/external system. The video and power supply to each camera is exposed. None of the wires from the camera install are housed within the camera assembly or mounting hardware. The wires are fully exposed and can be disconnected or cut. Especially if installed at street-level, someone can easily climb up or get on top of something if you install at the roof line or gutter area. On my first level, the roof line is at 9-10 feet height. Someone can easily cut those wires and defeat the system. Hopefully you are able to record who walks up and tries to cut. Night view is pretty good out to 30-feet or so. For this price and the quality of the equipment, you cannot beat the price! I would recommend this system to all friends and family! The only disclaimer would be to consider the exposed wire and see if there is an option to conceal or protect them from tampering.

This is a top-notch security system that does everything as advertised. They say the night vision cameras work to 30 feet and they do at least that. The hard drive is huge. It will hold about 45 days of data for eight cameras on 24/7. The 60 foot wires came in handy. Software programs are great and set up nicely. Anyone who has used computers can figure out how to use and set the programs. Customer support was very helpful. My system was missing two small parts and customer support got them to me in less than a week. I priced other systems and this one is, by far, the best deal. Most systems were about half the capacity of this one and cost about twice as much. It took me about eight hours to put the cameras up and run the wires in the house. I hid the wires by placing them in tubes from a hardware store. These tubes are used to hide electrical cords inside the house, but they work outside as well. You can put four wires into one tube, they have a slit in them so you can snap the wires in, and attach them to the house using attachments like the cable companies use. The rest of it is about like setting up a new computer. Once everything was connected, I turned it on and it all worked, no problem.

I put all eight cameras outside because we have thieves coming around at night. This system has the capability to download pictures and video to give to the police and/or use in court. I put the monitor in the bedroom so that I can turn it on and see everything around the outside of the house, even in the dark. You can view and record independently. I put one camera aimed at the front door so that I know who is there before I open it. It does not come with a monitor, but any computer monitor will do. Be careful on some cheaper systems. Some do not have a hard drive and it is not very obvious than they don't. Model number might just have a "NHD" for "no hard drive" and that's it. This is fine if you do not want to record, but if you do want to record, obviously, this will not do. If I had it to do over again, I would buy this system without hesitation.

4) cameras may interfere with infra-red motion detectors if not aimed appropriately kept triggering my alarm after setting up a camera that faced toward a motion detector

this security system is very nice however the instruction book doesnt seem to match the system. some of the pictures that are supposed to help walk you through some of the setup arent the same as the ones you see on your video screen. the system works great and after three trips to my attic it is now up and running. be sure to run the wires from camera to dvr in the right direction. i ran one the wrong way and when i tried to pull the eve staples out to rerun the wire the right way, i broke the wire causing me to order a replacement wire. the wires that come with the system are extremely thin and break very easily. the replacements are way thicker. for the price, you cant go wrong

A very useful and surprisingly well built mini-tripod for smartphones. I bought this for use with my iPhone, mainly to have a video camera rolling from a second angle.

**** One thing I forgot to demo is the telescoping legs, which about double it's height if you need it.

I have taken a look at most iPhone stands listed in Amazon. Most of them are very fragile (made by thin plastic) and do not provide enough stability (usually have very small base). The good part of those stands is that they are very portable for travel use. However, they are often overpriced and range from $8 to $25.

This stand is the opposite of all the above. For $11 (including shipping), it actually contains an iPhone-to-tripod adapter and a mini tripod. It is very sturdy and 100% adjustable. You can place your iPhone and iPod in any angle you like and it always remain stable (especially in the portrait mode). This is especially critical when you are doing face time with your friends and family since you want to properly face the camera.

The adapter is made of plastic, and the middle part works like a clamp that securely fastens your iPhone. The side bracket is just to protect the phone from falling off the bracket by accident. So far I only use it for 1 day, and cannot comment on the durability.

The tripod is very basic. But you can always use your own tripod with the included adapter.

The only drawback is that it is not as small as the other tiny stands. However, it can easily fit any hand bag or carry-on luggage without any problem. However, I will trade off some portability for the build quality and its full adjustability.

Awesome shipping time. Ordered on 7/15, arrived 7/18!!! Yet it took less time to break. This thing is very flimsy and poorly designed and constructed. It reminds me of the products we used get from the "5and10" stores when I was a kid. In fact the product is built like a toy, not something you would mount an expensive camera or cellphone unto. I should have been more discerning with my shopping.

Tascam Foam Windscreens for DR-08 Portable Digital Recorder, 3 Set

Sadly, the Tascam DR-08 Portable Digital Recorder does not come with the windscreens it should have. It is up to the buyer to shell out additional cash for three little bits of foam. If you do any outdoor recording, you're absolutely going to need these. They're not the same as large baffled windscreens, but they do give some help. I've found that they're very effective with breezes no more than 5-8 MPH. Once the wind is in the neighborhood of 10MPH, these screens don't provide sufficient protection. Still better than nothing, but you'll have to do some editing to get the roar out of your recordings. Grit your teeth and buy 'em.

These keep the wind noise under control. I have used it outside at the beach to record live music the wind was not an issue.

Panasonic DMR-EZ475VK Progressive Scan DVD Recorder

What makes this different from the DMR-EZ47V model? Only the inclusion of an HDMI cable. This is my third Panasonic DVD-type recorder and none of them have had major failings.

Don't believe the Amazon reports of a bad digital tuner as it just isn't true. The secret to good terrestrial digital reception is the right antenna. If you have that, you get great channels. Albeit, not in high def. But this is not a high def recorder. I didn't bother with the analog channels as I receive them all digitally, and then some.

I recommend the stand alone Phillips "Silver Sensor" antenna or clone. Don't waste money on the Terk models as they look nicer but don't do the job as well. Analog transmission is going away so you won't need rabbit ears. If the "Silver Sensor" doesn't work, you are just in a bad location. Mine works great through a 5-900 MHz 3-way splitter.

With my old GoVideo DVD/VCR combo I had 8 cables running from the back of the unit to the TV. 3 component cables & 2 audio. Plus 1 yellow composite and 2 more audio just to play VHS. 8 cables replaced by 1 (ONE) HDMI. Both formats play through HDMI.

With the HDMI upconversion turned on your DVD and VHS pictures can display at 480i/p, 720p, 1080i/p, or just select auto. While the difference in the picture is noticeable, especially with VHS, don't expect miracles. The best upconversion in the world can only simulate HD, it can't create information not in the original. For true HD movie experience we still need blu-ray. I have one and it is awesome.

If the HDMI on your TV supports Viera the Panasonic remote control can control limited functions of your TV. No more manual programming of the remote to work with your TV! The smart features means your player will automatically turn off when you turn the TV off. However, my Vizio doesn't support Viera so it doesn't work via HDMI. Pages 68 69 in the manual allows programming of the remote via the buttons.

As you can see in the product description this player supports a wide variety of discs. One long awaited favorite is the ability to record to DVD +/R Dual Layer. DVD-RAM is great because playback supports 1.3x playback by pressing [play] a second time. Press [play] again to return to normal speed. Now you can record your favorite programs in digital quality (Analog only to VHS.), skip commercials, and watch them faster on DVD-RAM. The upconversion means you almost don't miss the HD airing. Plus you have the ability to cross copy VHS to DVD and vice verser, providing copy protection is not an issue.

One of my favorite features missing on this unit is "shorten segment". It easily allowed cutting out commercials, yet leave a single video file. Alternately, "divide program" allows cutting around the commercials, then you may delete them. It's a bit more time consuming and leaves you with a fragmented video file. This will not affect play back as it simply jumps to the next video block. However, the "combine chapters" function only works with "chapters" you create, and doesn't combine the segments of cut pieces.

Thus I must agree it is a bit more complex to use, and you will need to spend some time with the manual and even cross reference some pages. It is time well spent as it is nothing you won't learn with repeated use. It's not rocket science. You'll be a pro in no time.

While I wish this had a hard drive and recorded in HD, I can't ding the product because that is not the design intent. Maybe next years model. I'm very picky in what I like and I am VERY happy with this player.

This is a great way to give that old 4:3 analog TV a digital tuner and keep it around a few more years. Plus you could receive more digital channels than analog! But only HDMI supports upconversion. Even with some short comings such as the standard definiton digital tuner, this player does it all and does it extremely well.

My two biggest gripes which make me wish I never sold my analog GoVideo combo. Finalized DVD-R will NOT copy to VHS. Only unfinalized DVD-R will copy providing the material is not copy protected. I can no longer copy a couple of regular DVD's to tape. Maybe there are tweaks to be found. But my need to copy to tape isn't as great as was my desire to do so. Cest la vie.

I bought the Panasonic DMR-EZ475V in May, 2007 and have had a lot of problems with it. It botches up DVD+RWs in so many different ways that they have to be thrown away. It's operations haven't been thoroughly tested, thus locking up the machine more often than not. I spent $300 plus sales tax for this...terrible WASTE OF MONEY. Believe me, stay away from this machine and be suspicious of similar Panasonic procucts. Bottom line...the DMR-EZ475V S-U-C-K-S.

One of the biggest factors in rating a product, for me, is its durability. I would have given this DVR a higher rating but it has essentially conked out after 17 months of use. For $300, I expect a product to last at least 5 years. Pros: Once I got it working it recorded good video and audio quality using the LP or SP settings. Cons: It was hard to set-up, it froze up a lot programming or reading discs (but fortunately not while recording), and now is refusing to read or finalize most of the discs it records. No more Panasonic purchases for me!

I bought this for three reasons: a) to replace my 12-year-old VCR, b) to take advantage of the digital tuner for my ancient TV, and c) to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD. It failed at all three.

The digital reception is great but on a standard 4:3 screen there is a 1 inch black border around the picture, so your 19" TV instantly becomes an 18" TV. I have it hooked up to 13" TV in the bedroom. I'm not happy. The digital tuner is also inconceivably slow changing channels. Surfing is a nightmare. When changing channels, it tends to go past the channel you want and then slowly go back to it. The so-called episode guide tells you what's on and the next show only. Brilliant.

Sales literature excitedly tells you that it has an SD card slot, which made me wonder if I could record to it like a poor man's DVR, but in fine print in the manual (after you buy it) it tells you all it can do is view JPEGs.

If Panasonic's parent company Matsushita invented VHS technology, why does this thing do such a crappy job playing tapes? The 12-year-old Sanyo this unit was supposed to replace still plays tapes smooth and clear (I just have to worry about the tape getting eaten) but in this one the same tape's picture jiggles constantly, which means transferring tapes to DVD is useless because all you get is jiggly DVD's. It's a Matsushita product, just take away "Matsu" and "a".

The remote is so complex you cannot use it without a light on. The manual was written by a dyslexic that read too many of those open plot books as a kid. The device gives you a choice of turning completely off or staying in sleep mode, which consumes more power than off, so in other words it's still on. Sleep mode is annoying because its fan will kick on in the middle of the night and scare the crap out of you. The off mode is worse, as if you intend to watch a show on TV, by the time it turns on you've missed too much.

I used to have high respect for Panasonic products and preferred them whenever possible, but this device has burned me to the point where not only will I never buy Panasonic products again, but I wish that those people at Panasonic responsible for designing it are dragged from their offices and beaten with sticks.

I bought the DMR-EZ475V 3 years ago for $300. It S-U-C-K-S and has ever since I bought it. Very user-UNfriendly. It is ERRATIC, UNRELIABLE, and a piece of JUNK. I've had nothing but frustrations with its operation from day 1.

I have been looking for a security surveillance system and after doing some research I settled on this unit. The model number is exactly what I wanted however when it was shipped to me I only got ONE camera. Not a complete system just one camera (a pretty damn expensive one at that). After going back and forth with Amazon for a bit they finally resolved it by refunding my money. I tried to explain to them that this product is mislabeled or something because if you look at the shipping weight in the product description you will see it is only 1 lb. The actual unit is about 14 lbs. Not sure why they haven't caught this but they haven't. If you want only one really expensive surveillance camera then get this however if you want a complete system (for the same price) you need to look elsewhere.

Hello, we had purchased this system April 2011. We are new to self installed camera systems and this is our first system.

We really don't have anything to compare this camera system to as like I said this is our first system. I can say we love this system. We use it for our 2nd home (we are snow birds) so while we are gone from our home in Hawaii we have the camera system on so we can feel a sense of security that our home is safe. We have no problems viewing remotely and it does send emails when motion is detected. You can also program the system to FTP the video clips of any motion. We do have to adjust the sensativity of the cameras a bit as it was sending us emails constantly from shadows on a sunny day and tree movements if it was a windy day.

Cameras themselves seem for the most part to be true to color, night vision is really good. Operation and set-up was a little tricky and I feel that this was mainly due to us not really having any experience in camera and DVR set up. The cameras that come with this system are 420 lines and unless the individual is fairly close it would be hard to indentify the person.

Aposonic has some other cameras and I may purchase a higher res camera to use like for our entry way.

All in all this camera system is very good. Does not feel or look like low quality and customer service has always been very helpful and right there when you needed to speak with them and they spoke ENGLISH which was a plus as you could understand them.

They stand by their product. We would not have any issue with purchaseing anything else from them.

I can view my house from iphone, This DVR record live video from 8 cameras, and backup the hard disk. It comewith 1000GB hard drive, which is excellent. Most other DVR come with 1500GB hard drive. My original purpose is to view video remotely over the internet, so I can watch my baby and the nanny. The unit was received fast. But the setup took some times. Connectin the cameras to the DVR was easy. But the remote access setup was tough. I contacted seller and they provided the link to download the software. Finally, I can watch the images from my cell phone. This is a great feature.

This unit uses the cheapes APP on the marker and is barely recognizable. The PTZ function doesn't work and the quality of replay is awful. This unit is way over priced and shoudl not be sold in the USA legally

I was having trouble with my previous phone (LG 600G). I could hear OK but those I was talking to could not hear me clearly. I found this phone to be an upgrade and about the same price as I would be paying for my minutes for the next 2 months. It seemed like a no-brainer and it turned out to be a very good deal. I do not use my phone very much so I don't need all of the other stuff, a button to change the ring volume would be nice but this one suits me fine. The problem with people being able to hear me is gone.

Net 10 was also very helpful on the setup. I was hoping that I would be able to do things online myself but had trouble with getting my entire minute balance to transfer. I called Net 10 and they were able to resolve the problem quickly and I was on my way.

All and all I'm very happy with my purchase thanks.

This LG620G has the Tracfone logo on it, so when I try to transfer my number and minutes from my Net10 Samsung to the LG, I'm having a terrible time getting it done. Still after 2 weeks, I cannot get my number transferred. Maybe if I get someone who understands English better and stay on with Net10 customer service for hours, it might get done. But what will happen when I get a new Net 10 phone and want to transfer stuff from the LG620G (tracfone)?

First let's correct the Amazon description, this is a 40X optical zoom camera, not 25X as seen on the product itself.

This is a great camera to start out with, the simplicity of Mini DV tapes makes this a good value choice. DVD camcorders in this price range suffer from bad battery life, and disk errors that can render your disks useless. The Mini DV tapes are tried and true.

I use an Apple computer at home and the camera connects to iMovie with no problems using the iLink port on the camera. All you need in most cases is a Firewire 6pin to 4pin cable, and you are good to go.

The video and audio quality are good, and the night vision is fun too. This is not a upper level camera so don't expect several bells and whistles, but it performs great, and has the basic features most people will ever need. The battery life is fair, but that is expected, all camcorder companies want you to buy an extra battery, but at least Sony gives you several options.

With a full charge and a new tape, expect about an hour of record time.

I have been renting a Sony DCR-HC21 from my college for a month or so now. I'm a photographer by trade but I really became interested with editing digital video so I looked around for a camcorder that was a bit above mid range. This is it, it has enough professional functions to make it just right for me. Ability to recored in 16:9 widescreen, touch screen LCD, ability to control exposure, manual and auto focus, 40x optical zoom, and at $234.99 it's an awesome buy.

The one Con I can think of is that the battery provided with the camera is very poor. Only lasts for 115 minutes, which seems nice but in comparison to the NPFH50 that lasts for 3 hours it's poor. Do yourself a favor and buy the NPFH50 Battery for $26 here on amazon.

The other thing that I can't fathom is that none of these minidv camcorders come with the firewire data cable. It seems like including an 8 dollar cable wouldn't be that difficult, Sony afterall bundles the software needed to transfer the video to your PC.

All in all this is the best camcorder for the money, I chose this over the Canon ZR900 and I'm glad that I did. It's well build and has all the features that an amateur or professional would want.

I purchased this camera in mid October 2008, and so far have been very pleased given the low price. I initially wanted more features, but did not want to spend over $250-270 total (with accessories like MiniDV tapes, firewire cable, bag, extra battery). I use it for recording my children's music performances.

The video quality is very good. 40x OPTICAL zoom. This was the highest optical zoom I could find in a camera in this price range.

The sound quality is good in the 12 bit mode, and even better in the 16 bit mode.

Minus:

No MiniDV tape included. You will need to buy some.

NO PASSTHROUGH MODE. This camera cannot accept input from analog sources (like output from an old VHS-C camera or a VCR). If you plan to use this camera to transfer from older analog to digital video, it won't do it.

Battery life is short, 115 minutes according to book, but I get between 90 and 100 minutes. Buy an NP-FH50 and use the battery that came with the camera as a spare.

No USB port. You WILL need firewire inputs on your computer to capture the video. And if you purchase from Circuit City, do not expect the sales people to know this.

No Firewire cable. Factor that in the purchase price. Firewire cables are expensive ($25-$30) IF you buy from a brick and mortar store; expect to pay $8-10 online

No Remote control. So if you want to put the camera on a tripod, you must manually start and stop the recording.

I bought this product to replace one of the first Sony Digital8 Camcorders that ever went on the market (DCR-TRV510). I've had that camera for 9+ years and have loved it. I bought this camera because because the reviews were decent, the price was good, and I like Sony products. I've had the camera about two months now and I'm very disappointed with the color of the videos. They are very dark compared to what they should be.

My most recent project was filming a basketball game where I had four different Sony digital camcorders in use on the same court (I film a complete game once a year). The other three Sony camcorders (all older, different models) produced far better color than this one. The colors produced by this camera are, quite simply, terrible. The one caveat to that is outside on a bright, sunny day will produce a rich color saturation. Other than that, though, you're out of luck.

I originally thought it was maybe just my camera, but another reviewer also talks about bad color saturation in his review, so I guess it is product wide problem. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I tried to buy this camera from Amazon but their server was trashing on 6/6/08 so I dashed over to the local WalMart and picked up one. After spending the last 7 hours going over every feature and nuance, I wish I'd had this camera last week for videoing a great rock band in Illinois... the spot metering feature would have provided me vastly better results than the old Sharp miniDV it replaced! One review of this camera is extremely biased by the buyer's ignorance of technology... firewire is the only way to go for transferring DV to computer, and this feature works flawlessly on this camera. I'm very pleased to have one, and not even sorry to have paid more at WalMart than Amazon's great price! Image quality is excellent!

Sony DCRPC9 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder

I originally did extensive research on the "vertical palm size" mini-DV camcorders and narrowed my decision down to the Sony DCR-PC9, the Canon Elura 20MC and the JVC GR-DVM75. Let me tell you that this was an extremely difficult evaluation because all three cameras have their strengths and weaknesses and there was no clear choice. The digital video technology found in all three of these compact cameras is absolutely amazing. I originally purchased the JVC but I had concern with the workmanship and the quality of the hardware I had read several reviews where the owner eventually experienced problems and the cost to service the camera was extremely steep. I ended up buying the Canon Elura 20MC and did a side by side comparison against the JVC. Not being completely satisfied with either camera, I finally purchased the Sony camera as well. This ended up being an involved process but it was the only way to really evaluate the cameras.

Although you can make arguments that one camera had slightly sharper images or another one handled colors slightly better, overall all three cameras produced crisp, accurately colored images in outdoor sunlight settings. Under outdoor overcast conditions, the colors can be on the dull side but the video still was of decent quality. All three camcorders performed poorly under low light conditions. The low light video taping was indoors at night with single or double lamp lighting with light bulbs between 60 and 100 watts. The Cannon Elura produced the poorest quality video (even with the low light setting) very dark and grainy and the quality was actually poorer than an 8mm analog camcorder. The Sony and JVC with standard auto-shutter settings produced about the same level of video quality which was less grainy but still on the dark side. The lower shutter speed settings on the JVC and Sony improves the image but the video becomes very choppy. As stated in other reviews, the Sony Night Shot (IR based) feature is impressive and works relatively well under "no light" conditions but creates the greenish monotone image. I am not sure how much video I will actually keep with the Night Shot but it is fun to use.

Sound quality is good on all 3 cameras but I do agree with the other reviewers who have commented on the problems associated with having the microphone located on the top of the camera. All the camcorders pick up some motor noise but the noise seemed to be more prevalent on the Canon. I also thought the sound was a little muffled on the Canon when compared to the other two camcorders. The Canon and JVC have wind screen options but I found them to be of limited value.

Not surprisingly, the digital stills from all 3 cameras were extremely poor. Even with the XGA resolution and built-in flash, the JVC stills were only marginally better than that of the other cameras. The best field stills (captured from video) came from the Canon and then the JVC. If you want to produce "print quality" digital stills, my recommendation is to purchase a separate dedicated digital camera instead of spending extra money on a higher CCD count.

For the Canon Elura 20MC

Pros: Quality Video, Progressive Scan, extended Recording Modes, good ergonomics and design, well constructed, the smallest of the 3 camcorders, manual exposure and shutter speed settings

Cons: Poor low light quality, short battery life, too small for large hands, microphone picks up the most motor noise of the 3 cameras, poor stills, no software, requires a shoe for external microphone and head phone, no USB support

For the Sony DCR-PC9

Pros: Quality Video, NightShot, the most features/functions of the 3 cameras, battery life was about 30% better than the other camcorders, lens ring for manual focus

Cons: Construction feels cheap, Poor Ergonomics, poor stills, cumbersome menu system, uses Sony's proprietary memory stick, limited remote controller functions

For the JVC GR-DVM75

Pros: Quality Video, High Band Processor emulates progressive scan, Built In Flash, well designed remote controller, good number of features/settings

Cons: Construction feels cheap, Poor stills, short battery life, poor viewfinder resolution, requires a shoe for USB connection,

Here are a couple of general observations for purchasing a camcorder. Most sales people only know the specs of each camera but have limited (if any) "actual use" experience outside the store. The image quality on the LCD screen is not a good indicator of the actual quality of the recorded video you really need to view the video image on a TV screen. Finally, you cannot fully assess the quality of a camcorder within the confines of a store.

Because I am planning to do quite a bit of indoor video taping I decided to keep the Sony. I really hated to give up the Canon progressive scan. I originally thought I would keep the Canon (see my review under Elura 20MC) but the poor quality video in low light eventually prompted me to evaluate the Sony. The bottom line is that each camcorder is an excellent product and the best camera for you is dependent on your needs. If you are on a budget, the JVC offers the best overall value, performance, features for your money. Although I only had limited, the hardware quality of the JVC seems to be on par with the Sony. If you are primarily video taping under good lighting conditions and want to capture stills from video, then I would recommend the Cannon. The Elura was also the most compact, most comfortable and best designed. If you need a camera with many digital effects, options and special functions and are video taping in low light/night conditions then I would purchase the Sony. Good luck!

I have been using this camera for a month now and have a few remarks which maybe helpful to you.

1. Size !!!! This thing is so tiny ! and does not look like a regular camcorder. People do not pay attention to it at all which allows you to capture great scenes ! Once I had two film cameras. One was really good but heavy and expensive. Another much cheaper. So ! 90% of my best shots I took with the cheaper camera. Of course you can buy a camcorder with much better quality of the picture for 3-5 grands but will you take it with you everywhere ?

2. Touch screen. I don't bother about onscreen menu. As for me old style wheel is absolutely good. But there is one thing spotmeter. You just touch most interesting point on the screen and exposure adjusts better then you would (OK, I would) do it manually !

3. Image quality good. But colors could be better. I beheld that there is some lack of green, more then need of red. Blue is perfect ! But that can be seen only in comparison with high end camcorders.

3. Viewfinder. The wickest part of the camcorder. I must say I almost returned it back to the store because got tired pulling it out and pushing back. Why Sony didn't allow to change the viewfinder focus so it would be possible to use it for a short moments without pulling out ? Using of swivel screen could solve the problem but it eats the battery too fast. Another thing that when you put the camera on a tripod you cannot turn the viewfinder up, which is not very convenient.

Otherwise very good camera and definitely worth buying. If you planning taking video for yourself you will not find a better choice. But please ! DON'T BUY IT FROM ROYAL CAMERA. Go to the store with good repuitation despite the price seems to be higher there.

Best of the miniDV camcorder around. After searching for about a month, comparing more than 15 minidv camcorders. Even actually bought one. I'd have to say that this is the best one that we found.

At first, we bought a JVC GR-DVM90U because after. This camcorder has so many features, lightweight, and thinner than other digicams.

But after we've bought it, we found that it's image quality is very poor in low light condition. Though it has many features in it (such as AE program with 12 digital effects and 17 scene transitions), we never use any of it. Moreover, the image stabilization also not as good as we expected.

As for the digital camera capability, we don't really use it because we have a FUJI digital camera. And the quality of the camcorder's snapshot won't match the quality of the digital camera.

Since we're not really satisfied with our JVC, we tried to look around and end up with 2 choices. Canon Elura 2 or Sonny DCR-PC9. The review of Canon Elura 2 is better than our JVC, but we can't find a review for Sony DCR-PC9 because the product is new. But we know that Sony has a respectable quality, so we take our chances and bought this camera.

The moment it arrived and we hold this camcorder in our hands, we're sure that this is a great camcorder. The camcorder is less the size of the palm. It has the best image quality and the touchscreen is nice to use. The amazing part is that it performs really well in low light condition. You can even use it in total darkness with it's Nightshot feature. Really cool. The image stabilization is also really good.

The only flaw that we found is that the AUTO setting for the light is not really good. If you're using this camcorder indoor, you might want to switch it to the INDOOR option instead of leaving it at AUTO.

Battery life is okay. With around 2 hours of recording (much better than the JVC with only 1 hour of battery life).

So far, in our opinion this is the best digital camcorder around for the money.

I was in the market for a small, high-quality MiniDV camcorder, and the PC-9's specs looked perfect. I have had mine for a month now, and I am very happy with it. Although it is slightly larger than some of the JVC's and Canon's Elura II, it is still very small. Also, unlike JVC and Canon camcorders, the PC-9 feels extremely solid and robust. The construction is top-notch, and you don't feel worried about breaking it, despite its small size. One note of caution, however: be careful not to leave the camcorder in a bag with a lot of stuff crowding it, as the lens cap is prone to coming off. This shouldn't be a problem if it's in a nice padded case, but I carried mine in a bag with other equipment and several times was alarmed to find the lens unprotected.

The PC-9 has a 680K pixel CCD, which is more than is needed for 525 lines of horizontal resolution. Be wary, however, of other cameras with a 480K pixel CCD, because even though the DV format only uses 525 lines, a single CCD doesn't actually record as many discrete pixels as its pixel count claims (thus the advantage of a 3 CCD camera, which the PC-9 is not). Unfortunately, many people are looking for an end-all solution for video and still photography. There is nothing for a reasonable price that accomplishes this goal. While still digital cameras are 3 or 4 megapixels, with this camcorder, you are stuck at .68 megapixels not too impressive. Yes, they are acceptable for small internet jpegs, but forget about looking at them on a nice monitor, and don't even think about printing them. I mention the poor quality of stills not because the PC-9 is any worse than its competitors, but simply because paying extra to have a Memory Stick slot for stills is an utter waste of money (and space, to some extent). Still, the PC-9's fantastic video quality, small size, excellent build, and easy-to-use controls and navigation make it a great buy for anyone looking for quality, affordability, and style.

While I was slightly disappointed opening the box ( I expected a metal case it's plastic and scratches easily magazine pictures put me off) a month of use has overcome this initial disappointment. While I would agree with the previous reviews re the flimsy cover for the USB and video connection ports (appalling), the overall performance has been great. The small size is a real boon, you can fit it in the pocket of your (loose) chino's with relative ease (sans battery maybe that's why we have two pockets?). Other reviewers have had problems with the handling and button position but I found both intuitive and convenient (medium cadet golf glove i.e. pretty small hands). I bought the camcorder for the slow motion reply primarily for my golf swing (great, the slowmo, not the swing) general performance (family vacasion) has also been exemplary. I also bought both a quick charger (necessary if you value the covers), a 32 MB memory stick (not really necessary 32 MB is 200 an odd pictures) and a 10 hour battery (Require at least a 2 hour real life). In summary I love the handling, the touch screen, the size, the MPEGs (rough but fun), the stills ( good enough for e:mail and playback on a pc not to print) and the slowmo. I hate the connection covers and the fact that in 12 months it's going to look rough. Hope this helps.

With all the negative reviews I've seen for this product, I can't believe no one has said anything like this. The Easycap is a GREAT product. For the price, you're getting more than what you've paid. No, the software does NOT crash constantly. If it does, it's your computer. It DOES record in color with clear sound, you just haven't adjusted the settings well. I hate seeing a negative review on a product when the negative is actually the user.

If you have any troubles with the product, go to youtube, look up some quality settings and follow them. You will have a great product.

I have a security DVR which gives me direct AVI extracts out of its USB port, but without audio. So my project was to find a way to video capture extracts from the DVR. I bought this EasyCap. Had to make several passes with the WinXP driver install routines until all of EasyCap's drivers installed. Then I installed their video capture software. I was able to get sound but only got fuzz in the video display panel. Then tried Win XPs Movie Maker. Same thing albeit more frustrating. Movie Maker would lock up after each attempt. Next, I went out on a video capture software hunt and tried several other products which had trial downloads. No luck and I was almost at my wits end. My last stop happened to be nchsoftware, who offer the Debut video capture software. And the basic version is free.

Unbelieveably, after a little bit of fudging, the video feed from my dvr showed up in the Debut display on my pc. This amazing software lets you record in any of multiple formats: vcd, avi, mp4, etc. There are a couple of quirks, not so huge though. One is that in the 'tools' options to adjust the device I have to keep changing the video input format to NTSC_M each time I launch Debut. Culprit is EasyCap which keeps defaulting to PAL_B. Not sure why PAL_B was chosen as default while marketing to the US. Secondly, while recording I can see the green audio bar moving in the Debut display panel but cannot hear the audio.

After I 'stop' the recording session and replay the newly created file from 'recordings' on the menu I have both video and sound in the file.

Hope this information will help you too. Saved my day. And I recommend a robust donation to nch software for the free version of Debut. Alternately, buy the Debut Plus to support the company. They have a huge line of other video related products.

I bought 2 to stream video from 2 composite sources simultaneously.

Had them both up and running in xpsp3 within 15 minutes of opening the shipping container. Very simple, follow the directions: hook em up, put the cd in, let XP search for the drivers & install keep hitting "automatic" and away you go. Change the camera config to NTSB from PAL if you're in the US like me.

Win 7 was a little more tricky, I hooked it up, win7 tried to install some default drivers for video capture devices, they didn't install correctly, following the prompt I removed the adapter, that didn't solve anything so I hooked it backup, went into DM & updated the drivers by pointing to the drivers on the cd-rom and then forcing it to install the unsigned drivers, then rebooted and it worked. Not too difficult. Not trivial either. But this is standard fare for xp drivers in win7.

The units seem to be built well though they could use a standoff for side USB ports on a laptop, seem to be working like a charm...my only complaint is that at 30fps it's easy to see scanlines in the video when something moves through the camera FOV. But that could be the camera. I've definitely seen better video but this isn't too bad. The drivers are somewhat limited in the resolution options, my camera has 500-odd lines and none of the listed resolutions match this. So there's some black at the top of the video.

For the money it's a steal. If you are worried about flexibility or upgrades I'd have to look elsewhere. But then at $10 for one of these it's a safe & cost-effective fallback option. They definitely work and they definitely are cheap.

The following forum explains why you might be getting ripped off on this purchaseTo summarize it, there are two different computer chips in the EasyCAP.

One variety is known by the models numbers STK1150 or STK1150, built by a company called Syntek. These work with the appropriate drivers, which are a bit of a chore to track down, but apparently can be found.

The other variety identifies as "SM-USB 007" or "SMI Grabber DEV" when plugged in and installing drivers. This one does not appear to support audio capture, or does not have the drivers necessary. You must patch the red and white RCA coming out of the device you have your video tape in into a microphone jack. These adapters are available from more electronic boutiques, but the audio quality can suffer.

In the end, you may be advised to go with the EZCap instead, as it is the genuine product to which this is a knock-off.

TL;DR Some of these EasyCAPs are made with inferior parts and software and are nigh impossible to patch around. You're running a gamble this.

I bought the Easycap device to transfer vhs to dvd and I must admit it was very frustrating trying to get it to work. I neede to get TV in my garage without having to put in new wiring. Works perfectly, no HD, but close. I was surprised by the quality of the image I got. There are 4 walls with aluminum studs between the sending unit and the receiving unit (dist. +-60 feet). You need to experiment a little bit with the switch settings, placement of the sending and receiving unit, but I'm completly satisfied with the system. Have it connected to the composit output of my HD Comcast Cable box.

I got a Zmodo security camera DVR for Christmas, and the only problem was that I could not easily run video wires to where I wanted all of my cameras mounted. I tried this wireless transmitter with a couple adapters, and it worked out very well! The transmitter even uses the same power plug as the cameras do,so I can share 1 A/C adaptor with the camera and transmitter. I occasionally get some interference on the video, especially when it's rainy or windy out.... probably to be expected but that's the only reason I don't give this 5 stars. The interference is rare enough that it doesn't bother me....over all this solution worked out great for me.

The audio channels did not work with headphones, which was my intended use for it. Plugged into speakers, it had a lot of static. However, hossen's customer service was very courteous about returning the product, and gave me a refund in advance as well as a full refund on the return shipping.

This unit is built well, very sturdy and compact. It worked right out of the box and it is very easy to operate. It even arrived much sooner than anticipated considering it was coming from China.

In low volume situations this would most likely work but I run a mobile DJ company and I needed something that would provide hi-fi audio wirelessly to my speakers. It does have good sound quality and good range. There is an occasional pop in the audio and if a microwave is on nearby it will cause a good amount of interference. These are obstacles I could have overcome but the main reason these did not work for my situation is because of the amount of signal noise. When it's transmitting with no audio, the noise is quite noticeable when the volume is turned up. As long as loud enough audio is being sent then you may not notice the signal noise.

The signal noise sounds like an FM radio receiver tuned into a frequency with no station broadcasting on it. I was worried about RF hum coming back into the unit due to the transmit power output but that was not the case. Then again it may have been drowned out by the signal noise. Either way, in my application running 550-watt speakers they were way to noisy to use. I need a super quite signal feeding my speakers such as a direct line feed or a wireless instrument lapel unit. Wireless lapels work great but do not have the range this unit offered.

I did not try the video portion though I may for when someone wants to feed audio and video to a projector across the room at an event. I suspect that the signal noise will still be an issue however. I will say that I did try 2 other similar units and this by far was the best built. The other was a 2.4GHz Wireless Audio Video AV Transmitter Receiver with IR Remoter 250M Sold by CE Compass. That unit had a little less signal noise but it's made out of plastic and will not have much durability. The sound quality was a touch better with the CE Compass unit as well however it was not able to handle as much volume input. The CE Compass unit also came with a power supply that seems finicky. I tried using it at an event and I was not able to get it to power on. At first I thought the unit broke but then I tried it again at home and it powered on. It was then I realized that the green light on the power adapter was not lit until I wiggled it in the socket.

I also tried the Fusionsea 1.2GHz 800mW 15 Channel Digital Wireless AV Receiver and Transmitter ESXF800mW and was very disappointed despite it's good construction. It had no fidelity at all, just allot of high's and some mid's but no bass what so ever. Surprisingly the best solution for signal range I have tried so far has been the Ramsey FM30B FM transmitter. It does not have the super high fidelity I desire but it's still good enough to where the average person won't even notice. It also has very little signal noise. It's not totally quit but again good enough to make it work in most situations.

All-in-all if Hossen was able to quit the signal they would have a fantastic product. If they were able to add squelch to it (in case of signal loss) they would have the ultimate product.

This item works as advertised. It's no frills but it gets the job done. It will play the tape and then auto-reverse so you don't have to turn the tape over.

Once you have the setup done, just pop in a tape, start audacity, hit RECORD on audacity, and then PLAY on the unit. The tape will play at the usual speed, this is not a high-speed dubbing unit. Note that audacity will save the file in its own format, but you can then go in and select sections and export them in MP3 format.

HOW TO DO IT

If you have a Windows 7 PC, go to Audacity's website and download the Win7 version, and install it BEFORE you plug in the Taotronics unit.

Now plug in the TaoTronics unit. Skip Windows looking for an update to the driver.

After a pause, you should be informed that the unit is installed and ready for use. Subsequent uses on my Win7 PC did not acknowledge that the unit had been plugged in but it still worked.

Run Audacity. These are the settings that worked for me on a Windows 7 PC:

For sound level, you can either work with the microphone input level, or you can use the Volume wheel on the unit.

The unit will do an "auto reverse" which means it will play the entire cassette, sides 1 and 2, and then stop. It also has a setting that looks like it is for "endless play".

The player will stop at the end of the tape, but if you rewind/fast forward it appears to just wait for you to hit "stop" so I wouldn't do either of these and leave the room or you might stretch your tape.

Readers Digest walkthrough:

1. Install audacity.

2. Plug in the Taotronics unit.

3. Put the tape in the unit. If you haven't played it for a while, you might want to fast forward and then rewind to make sure the tape isn't wound too lose or too tight.

4. Hit the record button on audacity.

5. Hit the play button on the Taotronics.

6. Make sure you have the unit set to just play two sides. The player will stop at the end of the tape, but Audacity will keep recording so you have to stop Audacity yourself.

7. If you want MP3s, you will need to:

a. save the file as an audacity project

b. select sections of the project in audacity and "export" them in MP3 format. To do this you will need to download the Lame encoder and let Audacity know where that file is. I suggest you put it in the Audacity folder.

c. keep doing b until the end of the audacity project file.

UPDATE: Audacity will automatically export tracks for you!

Using audacity to automatically split and save your album tracks

Go to the beginning of your project and delete all but about 3 seconds of silence. Do the same at the end of the project and in the middle of the project (between the album "sides"). Don't delete it all, as audacity will be using the silences in your project to split the tracks. You will have to make sure of enough silence before the first track or it won't be recognized.

Select Analyze / Silence Finder. Accept the defaults and click OK. Audacity will now find the spaces between songs using the silence areas.

Audacity does a pretty good job of finding the spaces between tracks but it's not perfect, so you should take a look and make sure there aren't extra tracks were the silence between songs was too long. You can delete a label by editing its name and just backspacing until it disappears. NOTE: you will almost always get a label at the end of the project.

Now put in the names for the tracks in the label markers. Do this with Tracks / Edit Labels.

Now set up the MP3 tags for the files. This is how an MP3 player can show you the title, album, etc. when you play an MP3:

Go to Edit / Preferences and untick Show Metadata Editor Prior to Export Step.

Go to File / Open Metadata Editor and enter the performer name and album name.

Go to File / Export Multiple.

Set the format for your exported files (Mp3 usually). Audacity should remember this after the first time you do it.

Set the export location (audacity can create a folder if it doesn't already exist.)

Select "split files based on labels"

Select "numbering before label/track name" (to insert the track number so the files sort properly)

Select Export

Summary: If you want a device that just provides the audio source and gets out of your way, this device is perfect. If you need things a little more automatic (to do the recording and noise reduction for you), it may be a little *too* basic for your needs.

There's not a lot to this device, which makes it incredibly simple to use. When I plugged it into my Windows 8 PC, it identified it as a "USB Microphone". All that's required to use it is the sound recording program of your choice. (The enclosed CD contains an older version of the program Audacity -a newer version is available from and is completely free to use.)

Because it's so simple and doesn't try to do anything "fancy", there are a few manual steps you will have to do yourself to get a good recording. The more difficult part was balancing the volume levels on the unit itself and the recording level on my PC, to get the maximum volume without distortion. Then, once the whole tape is recorded, you have to use your software's noise reduction feature to eliminate the tape hiss.

While I prefer a device to just do its basic functions, so it doesn't get in my way, novice users may find it difficult to do all of these steps manually.

The whole unit, from the mechanical latch to the buttons, feel like one of the more cheaply-made portable tape players I had back in the 1980s, but the unit has so far made it through my entire collection of Harry Potter books on tape and is working on the Lord of the Rings, and it hasn't faltered once.

As an added bonus, it has a standard headphone jack and a battery compartment, so it can be used as a standalone portable cassette player. (Batteries are *not* required when connected to the computer; it is fully powered by USB.)

Some negatives:

I have run into issues with insufficient shielding, where I hear the telltale signs of cellphone interference (whether that's from the player, the cable, or internal to my PC, I'm not sure). I have to unplug my USB mouse (which was connected into the USB port right next to the tape player) and keep my cell phone at least a few feet away when recording.

When recording audio books, I like to take the entire book and save it as a single file. Audacity does not do well with 8-hour or longer sound files -it sucks down disk space in its "temp" directory, and it slows down and eventually crashes before I can save the file. I instead use the program GoldWave (but again, since it's just a generic audio source, any program will do). Audacity *does* work just fine for a typical 2-hour cassette, and its noise reduction feature works just fine.

Overall, this is a great product to save my old tapes (those were never released in digital format).

I am surprised with the recorded sound quality; the mp3 file (320kbps and changed other settings to best quality) sounds as good as the tape. If your audio tape has a lot of hiss, the recorded file will be a mirror image. I got this only for a day, so I have not played with other audio effects such as amplifer, noise reduction, echo, etc. I am not sure if these effects will yield better quality than the original tape, but I can accept if it is at least sound 100% like the tape, no less.

The CD came with this converter is useless for those who has Windows 7 (me included). ..Just google "audacity", download and install the file for Windows 7 OS. With this file compatible with Windows 7 OS, it will link you to the website where you can download codec for converting your sound "project" into mp3 format (the mp3 decoding is not built in).

Also, expect to play around a little bit to get any recordings...I first followed the instructions which told me about changing the drop down bar to "USB audio device"...that never showed up on my list...i had to spend sometime to get it to work because of the settings.

First of all the instructions do not tell you that if you have Windows 7 you must upload Audicity from the Audacity.com website for the latest version. We found that idea on the Taotronics website. So after we finally did that, then next problem was getting it to realize that the tape player was connected to the usb port. Once we finally did that (by unplugging and replugging into the usb port several times and opening and closing the audacity program several times) then we started a recording. Well, about 5 minutes into the recording, all of a sudden, the Audacity program did not recognize the tape player. So, we went back and repeated the plugging in and unplugging, etc and finally got it to recognize it again. Then about 15 mins into the recording, all of a sudden Audacity did not recognize it again after it had already recorded about 15 mins of the tape and we restarted again. Well,,, by now you know the story. This piece of junk is going back to Amazon tomorrow!!

This thing most definitely needs a driver!!! Don't buy...piece of Junk!!!

When I started my security camera installation company back in 2001, Geovision was the first product I sold and installed for my customers. At the time it was revolutionary because it worked so well out of the box and the card installation was easy. My only problem with it then is that it did not give me the resolution I was looking for. After years of experimenting with other camera DVR's and cards, I came back to Geovision and found out that it wasn't Geovision that was giving me a substandard resolution, it was the cheap cameras I was installing. I feel that Geovision packed every feature you will ever use without demanding a lot from your computer your installing it into. I've used some pretty cheap computers for DVR's and Geovision has never let me down. Other cards use up too many motherboard assets including the onboard video card. Geovision even has an app to allow you to watch your camera system on your I-Phone. It's in Beta testing now but I have installed it for a couple of customers and found it to be the coolest feature yet! It even controls Pan, Tilt and Zoom cameras as well!

This is a knock off card which means some plant in China made this card it is not a true Geovision product. The worst part is when I put it in I had to set the region code to Canada to make it work. Now I have wasted over $500 bucks on a piece of crap card and I have a customer who needs the system in and running by tomorrow. I don't have time to wait for another card and to wait for a refund. I really wish people would explain that they are selling a knock off card and put that price point at about $100 which is what they are worth. Video quality is terrible and there is herringbone in the screen for each camera which tells me there is a voltage differential for the camera video controller chip. This is not a Geovision product it even comes with a burnt DVD with old software not the newest version of the software.

I got this system through "USA Security Store" (through Amazon), the items came quickly and well packed. The instructions to set up the system was pretty basic, but understandable. The operation of the DVR was a little cryptic, but again, simple enough to muddle through.

Installation of the system was straight forward. You simply mount the camera mounts to the side of your house, then mount the camera, then plug the cables (which lead back to the central unit(s). There are two main units that come with with this system: the DVR and the Power Converter (see the posted pictures). I have sliding on house, so a quick trip to Home Depot to get a siding remove was a trip well spent.

I had a few installation questions and the seller was quick to respond with help. When it seemed that I could have had a broken part, they were quick to offer a replacement. It turned out that the weather hood was just shifted (so it looked like the camera had a problem). (They figured that out too, bravo!)

The system has stood up well over several months of use including serious snow and rain in our area.

There are two big conveniences that I like #1, the night vision is pretty cool. The only thing I would caution is that condensation can obscure the picture a bit. As a whole the system does a good job at night. #2, the online viewing is a really nice feature so you don't have turn on the TV to see what's going on outside. I'll post a picture so you can see it.

The only thing that I would caution is that the video quality could be a bit better. Its definitely enough to make out faces and most details. But if you're looking for HD, this isn't it. Still, the main part is that I got all the wiring run, so an upgrade in the future should be much simpler.

All in all, I'm happy with this system I'm glad it came with everything included (no need to figure out what I might/might not need). The seller was helpful and I'd buy from them again.

This is the second of these units I have purchased. The ease of setup and the performance for the price is fantastic. I love being able to access off any smartphone or pc that I am on. And find the alarm functions of the cameras outstanding. I highly reccomend this product!

When reading the manual everything seems very "plug and play" but once you actually get into the settings of your DVR you'll soon notice that the manual doesn't match the machine much if at all. (Apparently, the same manual is stuffed in with about 12-14 different DVR models from this company.) Customer Support is excellent and follow through is on par but they could certainly reduce their call volume if the manuals were better written or at least written for the exact model of DVR they are pairing it with.

Total internet setup time with poor manual: 10 days!

Cameras= Not the best quality i am sure! at first i was really disappointed when i saw the videos i expected poor quality but not that poor.These cameras are advertised as sony cameras which i highly doubt.The sony camera advertisment is the selling point that put me over the edge on this system but it is not the case at all. After a few months of looking at gas station and bank camera screens i noticed there all kinda the same the more expensive quality having a crisper image but making somebody out in the distance is impossible on any camera unless it zooms it seems.

Cords= The absolute cheapest bottom of the barrel cords i have ever worked with. Do your self a favor and invest in the good quality cords you will be glad you did. These cords where very fragile and if you set them down for a second they would tangle BADLY!!!!!!! forget about splitting the two wires apart easily for a remote power distribution location. your gonna have to do some cutting of sleeves because of course they do not slide down the cord easily it insists on being a huge deal!! also i would suggest learning how to wire your own end connections so you do not have to drill 3/8 holes in your house for a tiny cord( learned the hard way).

Power box= Was actually a really nice piece. came with 8 pigtails and on and off switch. could have made the power supply cord longer but that,s not a big deal for the price of the system

Dvr= This Dvr is terrible it does the job but barley. This is what made me wish i went with a different system. You get about a week storage of video files with all 8 channels hooked up (not bad) The remote is useless the first thing you should do is throw that in the garbage and save your battery,s. Second forget the Dvr even has buttons on the face of it because as you guessed they do not work either. There are even options inside the Dvr hard drive that does not work either. all in all a pretty poor design i am just greatful it even works at all. this is the first piece i am upgrading and recommend you upgrade if you end up purchasing this system.The only good thing about this Dvr is the ability to send the video feed to a monitor and your TV,s at the same time.I have since split the video feeds and am able to view the feed on all TV,s and computers in the house.

Hardware= As i said before the remote is useless. The camera mounting hardware is pretty cheap as well and stripped out on me a couple times thankfully i am a mechanic/Tech and can repair most anything. It does not come with any needed cords to connect it to your TV,s monitors or internet so be prepared to buy those on your own.

In closing i cannot recommend this system on the basis of its performance at all. I wish i would have went with a Qsee or night owl personally. The only reason i gave it the stars i gave it was because the customer service was amazing. i was on the phone with them all 10 days for hours trying to get it connected to the web for mobile viewing and they where with me the entire time and did everything in there power to fix the situation. on the customer service basis i highly recommend it. final verdict is if i could do it over i would do a different system and i recommend you do the same

Panasonic PVDV51 MiniDV Digital Camcorder

This camera stands out because the video quality is great, while unneeded features are left off. I don't need a color viewfinder--or a color LCD for that matter, even though this camera comes with one. I want to be able to aim it, that's all. I have a nice Olympus digital camera I bought on Amazon last year that takes PERFECT pictures and I don't need an inferior "still mode" which is commonly included with lots of these digital VIDEO cameras. Mercifully, Panasonic made the effort to make a camera for the real, practical world which does not force me to pay for a high-end digital camera and media capability that I do not need at all. The 2.5 inch color LCD is even too much in my opinion! I LOVE that this camera takes such good video and has an excellent zoom capability the most. That's all I really need!

I purchased eight of these cameras last July 02 and they have been a huge disappointment. I have many of the precursors to this model, the pvdv-101. There are two issues with the Pvdv-51. Out of eight cameras, three of them had case breaks in the exact same spot, just where the hand strap connects to the rear section of the camera. I am a teacher and use these in a high school setting. With the first camera break, I blamed student negligence. However with the third that happened (in my hand!) it's clear to me that there is an engineering fault. I suspect the grade of plastic used isn't strong enough but that's only speculation.

The second major problem has to do with the video heads. From the first week of use, these cameras have been plagued with head clogs. I use only Sony Premium tapes (do not mix brands). Again, I have other Panasonic cameras that I use and they do not have these problems. The dry erase tapes will work for most clogs though sometimes the tape has to be run through many many times to clear the problem. Some clogs have not been fixable and are waiting to go out to have their heads "professionally" cleaned.

Finally, Panasonic's customer relations has been poor with this issue. I have had no success on the phone or in print resolving my problem and will be switching to another similarly priced camera when replacing these models. I've been testing a Canon ZR-60 and am pleased with it's performance. This camera also has an external mic input which the Pan does not.

Over the years, I've invested more than 100 grand in equipment in Panasonic and this is my first major disappointment.

As a beginner of camcording, I reviewed all the many cameras on the market and decided to purchase this one for its ease of use, size for traveling, and clarity of recording. I have never owned a camcorder and after one day of testing, I feel very comfortable at recording and playback. Actually, I take it everywhere and having a wonderful time using it. The only drawback is you cannot download to a PC. However, I have ordered a cable and software from Pinnacle to solve this problem. I highly recommend this product, if you are a first time user and you want great pictures with minimal experience.

I just got my PV-51 out of storage to shot some video off the end of a runway while I was landing and taking off. I had forgotten what nice video it takes, even when

compared to a non-tape HD cam. The only issues I have with this camera are the forementioned weak strap attachment. I had to send mine back to the factory within a year when the front tab snapped off.

The second issue is that the jog switch, probably the most important part of the camera control, isn't working. You can get the menus, but the push the wheel to set them function is gone. What you see is what you get now. There is just too much function to put in one little switch, so I'm not surprised that the jog button failed.

Other than that, it takes easy to find batteries and with 3600 mah or higher batteries you will run out of tape before the battery. I took mine to Oshkosh

a few times and two batteries and three tapes got me through the event at EAA. It's a little out of date now, but if you find one that works, it's a good

second cam for set and forget sort of filming.
