During the time that I had this device, it was reliable, easy to use and an inexpensive music player. 2GB is definitely adequate for the good majority of us. I highly recommend it. Although this device does not support playlist functionality, this is one product Magnovox succeeded with. (Their DVD players suck; stay away from them.) This thing is also suprisingly durable. I had dropped it dozens of times and it even went through both the washer and dryer! I accidentally left it in the pocket of my jeans; it survived and still played as well as it always did. Unfortunately though, it just died today. I believe its something to do with the firmware. When I tried to reload the firmware... my computer did not detect it. Hard to fix if you can't pull it up through the only repair channel. Overall, its a good getting started device if you are a person who doesn't want anything too fancy or complex or if you want to teach kids responsibility. Once they have proven themselves... you can always upgrade to something more fancy later on. Only other thing is to make sure that the firmware stays up to date otherwise risk having it die out on you like it did to me. Would have probably lasted years more if I had kept up to date with it.Saturday, October 4, 2014
SVAT CLEARVU3 Web Ready 16 Channel Deluxe DVR Security System with 8.5" LCD Screen & 8 Indoor/Outdo
I purchased this system and also a couple of the longer range cameras for my business and had it installed by an electronics person. It worked okay for a couple of months and then started having numerous problems. I called and sent e-mails to the SVAT company for months but did not get a response until today and that was to inform me that they would not do anything because the system is no longer under warranty and suggested I spend another $700.00 to replace some of the faulty equipment I purchased. Of course I got no response from this company while the equipment was under warranty. VERY BAD EQUIPMENT and VERY UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES!I wish I could give them a minus 9 rating!!!!I bought this item 4 months ago and love it.Picture quality is outstanding better then expected.Customer service is really good as well.Would highly recommend this item
Constanze RussellAt first i thought i would never get this product up and running, then i call SVAT and the tech support was fantastic; in les then ten minutes they had it up for me... i love this system and i have no regret buying it.
for all of you out that are looking for a great security system, PLEASE contact SVAT PLEASE and check out their new CLEARVU3 WEB READY; it is aaaaawsome.

Sony DCRTRV8 Handycam Digital Camcorder
Having just emerged from camcorder-purchasing hell, I will share my thoughts with my pals as Amazon. I may keep this one because it is a good compromise and has the best sound I've found, but I may take it back. Here's why: 1. Picture--not nearly as good as the Canon Elura, similarly priced, or even quite as good as the Canon Ultura, $300 less. The colors aren't as saturated, and the image isn't as natural (The Canons, however, have sound pickup problems, severe in the Elura, which make them unacceptable. What does Canon think? We don't want to hear the tapes we're recording?). 2. The battery charges inside the camcorder, a particularly dim idea since you can't charge and record at the same time. External battery charger is an extra $150 accessory. 3. How can a camcorder at the turn of the millenium not come supplied with an S-video cable? This one doesn't have one.4. The still photos aren't as good in quality as either of the Canons (with or without progressive scan) or nearly as good as the high-end JVC model (with progressive scan). 5. The digital image stabilization, crucial to non-annoying video playback, is better than any JVC, but not close to as good as the optical stabilization in the Canons (the only ones which do it optically).6. The zoom is only a measly 10:1 optically, the equivalent of high-end JVCs, but not as good as Canon's 12:1 and 16:1 optical zooms. And don't let anyone fool you about a zillion:one digital zoom. The quality of the picture deteriorates so rapidly that it's virtually useless. Frankly, our 5-year-old Ricoh 8mm has better, warmer microphone pickup--and hence audio playback--than any of the digitals I've tested, and its picture quality isn't that bad. I think I've just talked myself into saving a thousand dollars or so. Maybe in a year, the digital crop will be more promising.I bought this for distributing family videos. Since this camera contains a IEEE 1394 adapter, it's very simple to transfer video to a computer. It has lived up to it's promises.Buy Sony DCRTRV8 Handycam Digital Camcorder Now
Great camera with large LCD screen. Takes great picturesin bright light. Not bad in low light with slow shutter.
Problems
No shutter speed control above 1/30.
No pass through of RCA/Svid to IEEE 1394 for capture use.
No line level audio input while taping.
Focus controls right next to microphone.
Zoom control fragile.

Great picture. Wonderful features. Easy to use. Terrific 3.5" LCD screen. Goes in my pocket. Firewire for my computer. I am very lucky to have it. A great investment! Can you see me smiling?I would actually give this camera a 4.5/5, but since there isn't the option, I will just round up. This camera is fantastic for what it does for its size and price. I couldn't decide whether to go for the PC-1 or the PC-100 (the little rectangular cams.) or this camera, which holds true to the "standard camcorder shape"; but, after trying out the alternative designs, I found them to cramp my hand and just be awkward to use with such tiny buttons and strange button/control placement. I am glad I went with this design instead. The quality of the picture and sound on this camcorder is simply great! The colors are well balanced and contrast is handled quite well. When watching what has been recorded with an S-Video cable (another review mentioned that one wasn't included in the box he's right, but I would recommend getting one if you're going to use this camera the way it was meant to be used a decent S-Video cable is only about $5-$10 anyway), you can really tell there are about 500(!) lines of resolution. The picture is almost DVD quality it seems. Also, the stereo mic does a great job in picking up voice or other ambient audio. For instance, during one filming session, we had a CD playing in the backgroud and the music ended up sounding as if it were dubbed onto the tape; it was not overpowering but actually added to the "atmosphere" of the recording. Very nice in my opinion, but it my be bothersome for some users that the mic can be a bit touchy sometimes. This camera is loaded with features and I would recommend it over the TRV10 with a savings of about $200. While this camera doesn't have the memory stick option [and a few other bells and whistles], you really won't need the TRV10 if you a) have a digital camera already or b)plan on connecting your MiniDV camera to a PC/Mac. However, I wouldn't really recommend using this camera for stills. While they are okay, an actual digital still camera would be better. It should also be noted that the build quality of this unit seems very good. This camera, while fantastic, is not without its subtle flaws. One small problem I have noticed is that when recording in low light conditions, the picture tends to be a bit "grainy" on playback. The picture is still good, just not exceptional like those taken with this camcorder outdoors or in well-lighted conditions/rooms. I haven't tried the "Low Lux" mode to see if this will compensate for or reduce the grainyness, but it will probably help a bit. Another problem with this camera and the MiniDV format in general is the price of the media. It can get a bit pricey if you don't plan on transfering recordings to VHS or SVHS tapes with your VCR. Sixty minute tapes can run you anywhere between $8 and $25 depending on what brand/quality you purchase. I usually use Sony tapes that end up costing about $11.50/hour. And the last problem I have is that the use of the 3.5" LCD screen can really eat up your battery charge (almost cuts it in half, it seems). The screen is great, but just expect to charge a bit more often if you use it regularly or buy a spare battery. So, to sum up: for the money, this camera is absolutely superb. It provides a *fantastic* picture outdoors or in well-ligthed areas, and a good picture in dimly lighted rooms. This camera is also LOADED with features that will make any user happy. I highly recommend this camera to anyone in the MiniDV Camcorder market.Wednesday, September 3, 2014
Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black

- DVD-Video
- SA-CD
- Yamaha Patented PlayXchange
- 5-Disc
- Progressive Scan
The picture quality is great. I have a SONY HDTV and playing movie with progressive scan (480P) is just amazing. The sound, you know what Yamaha is good at. I am quite satisfied with its performance as a whole.
My only complaint is the boot time is a little bit long. When you power it on, it takes around 10 to 15 sec to open the tray, and takes another 10 to 15 sec to identify the disc. Afterwards however, it works like a champ. 5-disc changer is awesome. I can watch drama on VCDs without leaving sofa.
There were three DVD changers I was considering to buy. Onkyo, the same brand as my amp, is my first choice. But it turns out that it doesn't support DVD+R media (or -R, I forgot. I saw the review on Circuitcity's website and some people do prove this point). So I have only two brands left, Yamaha and Sony. The Sony one (DVP-NC875V) is about $30 cheaper than Yamaha. But Sony doesn't support DivX, which means it cannot play AVI files. Besides, Sony is well known to deliver so-so audio quality. Thus I think $30 is quite worthy to invest Yamaha. And Yamaha DV-C6760 is a NEW model. Yamaha can do whatever Sony can and do it much better, while Sony cannot. $30 is not a big difference, then why not pick up a better one?
By the way, if you own this machine, there is a trick to make it REGION FREE. I did it and it works.
1. open tray and leave it open.
2. pick up the remote, press 99990
3. "REGION 0" appear in left top corner
4. close tray DONE
The last digit is the region code. If you press 99991, it will become "region 1". 99992 is region 2. "0" means "region free". Just leave it region free then you can watch any imported DVDs.
Edit (8/12/2005):
1. This player also supports .srt (subtitles)
2. Eject from remote: Press "STOP" button of remote for 3-5 seconds.
Edit (4/11/2006):
One reviewer said this player can play MPG but only video, no audio. It's not very correct. Some MPG doesn't support digital audio output. Try analog output and you will hear the sound. :)
Buy Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black Now
My take and things I've noticed about it:This player is slow to load a disk. However, it has played everything I have put into it with 100% dependability.
The inside of the tray doesn't seem to be as well made as the rest of the unit. It may just be that the tray is kind of huge when it is ejected; it seemingly makes up most of the unit.
The remote control lacks an eject button (that isn't too big a deal to me).
Thanks to another reviewer I am able to play DVDs from other countries (specifically, from the UK my Laurel & Hardy Collection). For some reason though, I have to reset the audio (via the set-up menu) everytime I play a non-usa region movie or I won't hear any sound coming through at all. Maybe it has something to do with my tv set and 'its' settings who knows. I do not have to reset anything if it is a good ole regular USA region 1 disk however.
It may be such an obvious point that it goes underappreciated, but the fact that it can hold and play up to 5 DVDs is really awesome! Believe me, it's a blessing! You don't want to have to take out and then load another disk every couple of hours if you don't have to! Especially if it is a movie that spans 2 or more disks. That can be enough to make you 'not' watch a dvd!
Conclusion:
I do not regret purchasing this. There are probably "better" multi-disk DVD players out there (not sure where though), but for the money I think I received a very capable multi-disk DVD player.
I recommend this unit to all of you!I pretty much agree with everything stated above. The tray IS a little slow to respond, but that's it. If this was my only player, I would have expected HDMI and upconversion (then it would earn the full 5 stars), but the ability to program the region and value for money won the day. Plus of course being able to load up hours of CD's. Btw, you can order real Brit (region 1) DVD's from Amazon.co.uk (same login, password, etc., nice job Amazon), and have them shipped here at a very realistic price.I live in Costa Rica and recently purchased the Yamaha DV-C6760. I am completely happy with it's performance as far as picture quality and sound. One of the reasons I purchased this particular unit is that it appeared to be the most format friendly on paper. Living in Costa Rica I intended to back up my library of Movies (DVDs) and store them in a mold free environment. I purchased a new computer with a DVD writer capable of copying to dual layer format DVDs. I did this with success using Nero and DVD Decrypter. Unfortunately the Yamaha DV-6760 has a hard time with copied dual layer format DVD's. The copies I made play fine on my older Sony changer and on a very inexpensive player of my friends. I rated this player with 3 stars only because of this flaw which was important to me.This is an excellent product. Installation was a breeze. The disk tray is a bit large but for me that was not a problem. Excellent image. Could play DVD's I received from Holland without any problem. Very good product at a very good price.
Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder / VCR with Line-In Recording (No Tuner)
I purchased a factory refurb of this machine via Amazon, in order to transfer NTSC home videos of my son. It came in perfect condition, is easy to use, and creates consistently good DVD copies. I would definitely recommend it.I was replacing a non-working DVD recorder, which probably explains why I didn't even have to read the book to use this remarkably easy machine. It makes clear copies. I love it, and would recommend it to anyone needing a VCR/DVD recorder.Buy Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder / VCR with Line-In Recording (No Tuner) Now
SUMMARY: works beautifully to transfer VHS tapes to DVD as long as you don't need to do any editing.I bought this VHS/DVD recorder to transfer old home movies to DVD. It's difficult if not impossible to edit those DVD's on this machine although that functionality is supposed to be included to a limited extent. My machine was missing a key menu item described in the manual. And after attempting an edit, the sound and picture would get out of sync on other DVD players. In order to dub without error I had to dub all the way through a VHS tape without any stops or pauses or edits. Later I would transfer everything to my computer and edit there. Overall I am pleased with the results and pricing. I would purchase this unit again.

Ok, if you're buying a product to convert VHS tapes to DVD disks (like I was), there are much less costly and simpler ways to do it. One of the $10 VHS to digital converters should suffice. I purchased this one for my Dad because he is not computer savvy and I didn't want him to have to use a computer. I thought it would be a simpler (all in one) unit that he could use to get the job done. As it turns out, it is simply a VCR/DVD-player/burner and must be used in the traditional (connected to a TV) way. I had hoped to be able to (without a TV)pop in a VHS tape, press "Play" on the VHS and "Record" on the DVD. Not so. You have to connect it to a TV and go through the on-screen menus to get to the VHS to DVD option. Also, there are no specific instructions for doing the VHS to DVD copy. After searching and re-searching the manual, I finally found a small section that refers to "Dubbing". You'll want to use the dubbing instructions for the VHS to DVD copy capability. Sigh...after all of this, you absolutely CAN convert your VHS tapes to DVD but it's more than most would need. This unit is primarily a VHS/DVD unit (with DVD recorder)that you would use in the conventional way, so, if you need to replace one of those, this would be a great fit. If you want to convert VHS to DVD but don't want to add or replace a VHS unit in your media cabinet, there are other options that would suffice.Want Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder / VCR with Line-In Recording (No Tuner) Discount?
This is the worst electronic investment I ever made. It functioned for awhile and then began making awful noises and chewing up the tapes I was transferring to DVD.Magnavox gave me the run around, even though the machine was under warranty. After being hung up on, transferred to a non-existent department, and generally thwarted at every turn by their terrible representatives, I was told that although the parts were still covered, the labor was not and it would cost me $60.00 to have them fix it.
Why would I spend another $60 when I can buy one from another company.
Do I have to tell you this product is made in China?
This is NOT your father's Magnavox.
You may as well set fire to your money as buy a Magnavox product.

Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing Machine
On the positive side, the transcriber was delivered quickly. Packaging was very good, with all of the required accessories that was advertised. The size was perfect as a spacesaver, and it looked very contemporary and professional. However, the counter is extremely small. You would need a magnifying glass to read the counter. Also, when the foot pedal is pressed either to go forward or backward, there is a loud, annoying sound. I tried to transcribe a short tape, but the loud sound whenever the pedal was pressed, was just too aggravating. Due to time constraints and an extremely busy schedule, I was unable to return the transcriber. Overall, the transcriber lives up to SONY's reputation as far as performance is concerned, however, I was very disappointed with the foot pedal. I went back to using my old transcriber (not a SONY).This is ok for the price, but there is no erase feature and so I have to use an older transcriber to erase tapes. The cassette compartment does not always open properly and I have to work with it to make it open. I realize that most transcribers are digital and this is still a cassette, but my boss is old school and does not use anything digital. Overall not as good as my older one that finally quit after several years.Buy Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing Machine Now
I used an older Sony machine prior to purchasing this one. While it's nice that it's smaller, it only gives you 3 options for reverse time (and none are right for what I'm used to) and it doesn't have the ability to erase a tape when you're done. It also does not have an on/off switch. It goes on when you hit the foot pedal.Read Best Reviews of Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing Machine Here

SpygearGadgets Motion-Activated Camera with Night Vision and 10-Day Battery Life
The camera works OK as a motion sensor camera, it's small enough to be hidden in day time, ah but the glowing Infra Red led lights beat the whole purpose of the hidden camera (not hidden anymore)The manual it's in well explained English, simple and detailed with some graphics to help you understand better the functionality of the device,
also what the other guy said about the 5 seconds trigger video it's TRUE, the manual states 2-3 seconds (Lie) it's actually 5-6 seconds after the cam has been triggered to record something
plus the glowing led lights, let me put it this way.
You open the door,
Motion sensor detects you right away(in half second IR led lights turn on) that doesn't mean the cam is recording.
you have now 4 seconds to close the door and the camera would record just an empty room for the time you set the camera to record
The camera works
Video Quality is good
FPS are smooth
Audio/Mic is good and clear
Trigger time is 5-6 seconds
Customizable settings are just a few:
Time recording:30,60,180/s
Video Resolution:640*480, 320*240
Video Quality FPS:10,15,30FPS
Time/date stamp on video
Indicator Green light On/Off while recording
Description of the camera on video I guess (in case you have several around the house to see to which camera corresponds selected video)
What it misses in the settings or should've been added too:
On/Off IR led lights
Select # of IR led lights to be activated on triggered cam: 0,1,2,4,6 or the whole 8,
(seriously, the 8 IR led lights give great illumination to the night vision camera(more than enough I would say), but they show to the intruder the camera location and what it is at first sight)
and that beats the whole purpose of the SPY/HIDDEN camera,
so,
NO, this is not a night vision "SPY" "HIDDEN" cam,
maybe a daytime spy cam or just a motion sensor night vision camera,
Battery Life is stated to last about 10 days,
Haven't get thru that yet, I'll review that LaterIt took some time to find exactly what I needed and fortunately this little gadget fit the bill precisely.
It works exactly as described. It's early days yet but it seems to be robust and well made to last a long time.
The short videos it creates are time stamped which is what I was looking for and can view something in absolute darkness.
The videos are a bit over exposed as they need to be to catch the tiniest of light sources. I don't intend to do anything
except keep track of animal movements at night so the videos are just fine for me.
The instructions are clear. But, they tend to assume that the reader is completely aware of what they are referring to.
In order to set the time and date stamp (which works very well) you need to create a small .txt file and transfer it into
the folder of the camera.
For those confused by this on a Windows machine (sorry can't speak to what is needed on Macs, . .) in the 'Accessories'
folder in the programs of the Start Menu, you should find 'Notepad'. This is what you would use to create the .txt file with the
current date & time. (The text you type in and save is completely spelled out in the instructions, . . .)
Once created and saved you drag and drop it into the camera folder after you have connected the camera to ]
your pc. That's all there is to it.
One note this may be tripping up some trying to set the time and date The time that needs to be set is based on a
24 hour clock (which most of the world uses, . .) as opposed to a 12 hour clock that we use in the States. So 5PM is
written as 17:00. This may be one of the reasons setting the time hasn't worked for others.
Buy SpygearGadgets Motion-Activated Camera with Night Vision and 10-Day Battery Life Now
I bought this camera to put into my car and everything works fine except the motion activation takes too long to activate. If you walk at a normal pace past my car then the activation is too slow to catch the motion. If you linger for more than 5 seconds, only then will it will catch the motion. I have an internal motion activation system in my house that senses motion instantly even in the dark. I guess I am used to INSTANT motion detection and this camera has 5 SECOND DELAYED motion detection. I was able to set the date very easily, the battery does last for over 50hrs continuous before recharging as promised and it does film in complete darkness. After seeing evidence of a rat, and no luck catching it, I decided to try using this camera to capture it on video, if not in a nice, baited trap.
Upon arrival of the camera, I was initially disappointed to not see any option for adjusting the sensitivity of the IR detector, as I had seen on other cameras advertised (I was worried that the factory adjustments wouldn't be sensitive enough to detect something as small as a rat). Oh well, I thought, I'll give it a try and if it doesn't work I can always throw it into the vast pile of other useless electronic junk that I seem to be addicted to buying off of the internet.
Using the factory settings for video capture time (30sec), I mounted the camera on a tripod, in our kitchen, and aimed it in the vicinity of where we've been seeing evidence (droppings, puffballs of fiberglass insulation, etc). I turned the unit on at 11pm and went to bed not expecting much.
After waking up the next day, I went about my business, not being overly excited about the camera; still convinced that it couldn't possibly be sensitive enough to detect a rat. I finally got around to retrieving the camera and attaching it to my PC with the included video cable (BTW, my unit did not come with a memory card, and had to purchase a 4GB one from Best Buy for $13 + tax. Be sure to buy one from Amazon as the price can't be beat).
Anyway, after attaching it to my PC, I opened up the camera's folder, and there were 15 videos, ranging in time from 30 sec to 90sec. Could the camera have actually caught one of the little son-of-a-guns?, I wondered? With anticipation, I opened up the very first video file and was pleasantly startled to see what I saw. There it was in all it's tiny glory, skittering around my kitchen floor, thumbing it's wiggly little nose up at me!
Based on my new-found knowledge of his whereabouts, I'm in the process of putting together a party for my little friend a party from which he'll hopefully never return!
Want SpygearGadgets Motion-Activated Camera with Night Vision and 10-Day Battery Life Discount?
I've been using this for a few weeks to watch for people snooping around my work cubicle after hours. So far I'm fairly impressed the device works as advertised.Pros:
Excellent battery life, I have left it unattended for several days at a time.
There is a tripod mount on the back of unit, but I haven't tried it yet.
Very small package does not look overly conspicuous.
Included rubber stand allows for easy positioning
Incredibly easy to use once configured just turn the switch "on" when you want it active.
The night vision, while I have only tested it once, is surprisingly pretty good.
Cons (mostly already covered)
The instructions are not very clear.
The field of view is not very wide I'm only able to capture about 1/2 of the area in my cubicle.
When in pitch dark, the IR LED's light up for the night vision to work. The IR's are not invisible they emit some low red light, which to me was clearly visible in a mostly dark room this makes it somewhat conspicuous in the dark.
There is a definite delay in time to start recording. This is the price for long battery life the device is in "standby" until it detects motion, so there's a delay for things to get rolling. Typically a person is fully in frame by the time recording starts. I don't think it's a big deal personally, but expect the first 2-4 seconds of an "event" to be missed.
Connecting it to my PC is rather flaky using the built-in USB port. I usually remove the microSD card and use a separate microSD reader to access the stored videos.
And here is a rough setup guide that may help those who struggle with the included directions:
1) Acquire a microSD card that is at least rated as "Class 6" I bought a 16 gig one from a different online site. It is NOT included.
2) You must be able to access this microSD card as a drive on a Windows PC either by following the included directions for activating the "removable storage" on the camera, or the much easier method use a microSD USB reader. Many microSD cards come with a reader.
3) The camera comes with a small CD containing a setup executable (.exe) file. You must copy this setup file to the microSD card. Do NOT launch the setup program from the CD copy it to the microSD card, and then put the CD away you won't need it anymore.
4) From the microSD card, launch the setup program that you just copied. Here you will set resolution, frame rate, and date/time. Click the "save" button.
5) The program will instruct you to reboot the camera. If you are using an external card reader, take the card out and put it into the camera remove the battery cover and gently pull the battery aside to expose the microSD slot. If you are not, then disconnect the camera from the USB cable and thrn it "Off".
6) Wait a few seconds, then, turn the camera switch to "On". Set it somewhere, dance around in front of it, whatever, to test it. I would recommend running it for several minutes, some of that time spent moving in front of it, and some of that time spent out of the field of view, to give it a thorough test. The camera generally will NOT save the video it is CURRENTLY recording, so if you just turn it on, move around, and turn it off, the camera will not save any videos. You must allow it to reset to standby at least once for it to write the video to the card.
7) Turn the camera off and move the microSD card to your reader (or, follow the directions to put the camera in mass storage mode). Open the "VIDEOS" folder on your SD card. There should be folders sorted by date, and then videos within for each motion detection, the file name being the timestamp. Make sure you can play them.

Eyecast Cloud Vault - Online Video Surveillance Backup (includes 1 year of service)
My company just installed these Eyecast Cloud Vaults in our office. They work amazingly well. I can view the office in real time from my computer and iPhone 24 hours per day with excellent resolution and refresh rate, and all of the playback, archiving, and exporting is done online and can be performed remotely. We replaced our hard drive based DVR storage system with these devices (the existing cameras plug right in) and the upgrade was tremendous. Further, if anything happened to the actual old DVRs (theft, fire, flood, power surge, etc.), all of the stored data / recordings would be lost. This system, since it is cloud based, prevents the loss of any data due to DVR damage / loss. Also you can expand the storage service online with Eyecast, so it is very flexible. The owners and representatives of Eyecast are also very personable and will address any questions immediately. Very satisfied with this product and service. Highly recommend the company and product.

WD Blue 160 GB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, PATA, 8 MB Cache - WD1600AAJB
This drive is exactly as advertised. It is a bare drive, no cables or mounting gear included (although you probably don't need either). It does not include instructions either; so you should know what you are doing if you are buying this hardware. It is an excellent choice for an older computer.Everything about the item was excellent. Well packaged, quickly shipped, performs well upon installation. My only problem was upon ordering, the product description said the drive was available in both PATA and SATA configurations(parallel vs. serial). My older computer required the PATA as a replacement hard drive. The Amazon ordering process did not facilitate the specifying of one of the two available configurations. It took various phone calls to Amazon, and emails to the product supplier to assure me the PATA version would be shipped. It turned out well, but this was the first time I encountered ambiguity, frustration, and delay in placing an order with Amazon.comBuy WD Blue 160 GB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, PATA, 8 MB Cache - WD1600AAJB Now
I'm using this as a second hard drive in my desktop Macintosh. The drive has a sturdy feel to it. I've handled a lot of drives and this one is quite heavy when compared to the other drives I have used. I've had it in everyday use for over a month now and have had no problems at all and I don't expect any. This drive is a good value. When used on a mac you simply plug it in, and turn it on. Then use disk utility in the utilities fold to format the disk and your in business.Item # B000VRZ7PA Western Digital Caviar Blue PATA Hard Drive WD1600AAJB
I ordered this through Amazon Market Place, because by the time I was ready to order it, Amazon was sold-out for the time being. Now it's re-stocked and I'm seriously considering ordering another. Unlike the display pages, this unit is bulk-OEM which came in a plasti-foil/mylar sealed wrapper. (no directions)
The re-seller did an excellent job bubble-wrapping it for shipping and when I contacted them about specifications, they were helpful and informative. Pricing was competitive with Amazon's own department. This drive is a little noisier than my original drive, which featured a peculiar rubber sheath. But this little winder spins out a fast 7200 RPM, and the noise isn't anything approaching noise from the power-supply cooling fan.
The Western Digital web-site features full specifications pages which are model specific. And there's a frequently asked questions (FAQ) menu with lots of information, some of which may apply to your needs. They also illustrated precisely the jumper settings configuration table I was looking for.
If you're installing an Operating System, (this installation was Windows XP) your installation disk will perform the necessary format. Because mine was XP, it had the option of selecting either FAT-32 file system (backwards compatible Windows 95-98) or NTFS file system, which is upwards compatible with Windows Vista & Windows 7, in case you need to network and share files.

I bought this in May '10 to extend the life of an old PC with IDE disk controllers. Great price for a good size in old technology. For almost five months it was great. But one day in October '10, without any warning whatsoever, it has stopped working entirely. As far as the computer sees, even in BIOS and even with swapping around the data and power cables and the jumper, the disk is simply not there (but a different disk is still working okay, so it is the new disk and not the controller which is the problem).Tuesday, April 29, 2014
BLU T172T Jenny Unlocked Quad-Band Dual SIM Phone with Camera, BLUetooth, Analog TV, microSD Card S
Good audio quality for phone calls. Texting is just like any other feature phone. I used 3 different SIMs (ekit.com from EF Tours, Tescomobile.ie, and Postfone.ie) and had no issues. The Quad band is great since you get coverage from either T-Mobile or AT&T in the US. You need the microSD card since the onboard RAM is so small and only good for your contacts. The media player does good with MP3s. The antenna is quirky since much of Europe has converted to digital TV so it doesn't do any good. The radio works fine. The camera is basic first generation, I ended up using my Droid for taking pictures instead of this phone. For the price, it was a good purchase and would recommend for anyone who needs basic features.I actually bought this phone for my father. Nothing elaborate. Just for simple use. My father was just looking for a basic phone. He liked the style and stated that it operated but the phone was not programmed for voicemail. Really frustrating since I am in a different state and tried to advise him of how to get it. Well he had to go to our retail provider in order for them to activate it on his phone. So now he has to press 123 to gain access. Other than that I take it from him that it is an ok phone otherwise.Pros-Product was as described.
I like the dual sim, micro SD slot, video recording, TV reception. etc
Good loking.
Cons
It has a antenna for the FM and TV. Good for those. However my mother felt it old style. (I do not feel so)
Body is plastic but seems to long last.
Overall I like the product and will recommend to others. It is worth more than what I paid for this ($35)

DVD Video Bluray Player Shelf Wall Mount Bracket Cable Box Adjustable
Straightforward to install, this glass shelf is ideal for wall mounting a cable box/DVD player underneath a wall-mounted television. The installation took about 15 minutes, with the longest part finding studs to secure the shelving unit into. The height of the shelf is adjustable, and the shelf is wide enough for a cable box or DVD player and remotes to fit alongside. Happy with product

PrimeDTV PHD-VRX Full HD 1080p Dual Tuner Digital HDTV Recorder, Receiver and Media Center Box
See at the end for info on December 2012 firmware update. A few features changed which helps a bit. (added Jan. 2, 2013)Have been using this for about 24 hrs, so I am quite the novice with it. I own a Magnavox 320GB DVR, which recently quit working. It had spoiled me. Really liked that DVR. I ordered the PHD-VRX to take the Magnavox's place.
This device's two tuners seemingly do a very good job. The hi-def channels are sharp, clear, and bright. Both tuners receive ATSC and QAM signals. Only tuner one receives NTSC channels. I would have liked for both tuners to be able to receive NTSC channels since I live a good distance from TV station towers and am stuck with a cable system which does not offer many hi-def channels. Most of the shows that I watch are still delivered over cable in the NTSC standard. As a consequence, one of the two tuners on this device probably will not serve me well.
What really bothers me about this machine is the fact that it will not record NTSC channels. That was either not made clear in the information about the machine or I completely missed it. I did not see that information really spelled out until I was reading the "Quick Start Guide" that came with the tuner/recorder. The lack of that feature really lessens the value of this tuner/recorder for me. I know that I cannot be alone in wanting a digital recorder that will record NTSC broadcasts. With the dearth of television recording devices since the nation's going to ATSC broadcasts, it seems to me to be a no-brainer to make a recording device to record in all three standards. That may be the deal breaker with this machine.
I have recorded and played back a couple of shows so far. The playback picture is excellent. I am using a 640GB Western Digital Elements external drive. I have found that the fast forward and reverse feature does not work well. It could be the fault of my USB drive. The 20 second skip forward or backward does seem to work just fine however.
The Magnavox, when tuned to a channel, immediately started recording that channel and would record continuously a six hour block of time. It allowed one to timeshift back to any point within that six hours. I could let the recorder run while going and doing something else and when I was ready to watch the television again, I could easily jump back to any point within that previous six hour time span. This PHD-VRX is not nearly so flexible. First, one has to select a time between five to sixty minutes for timeshifting [Dec. firmware update extended to up to 4 hrs.], and then hit the record button. One is then stuck with that amount of time. I noticed that when I tried the timeshift option that the optical sound feed from the tuner to my receiver ceased functioning [Dec. firmware update apparently fixed]. Once I quit timeshifting, the sound through the optical cable worked perfectly. Perhaps some oversight in the tuner's inner workings or firmware.
Overall, the tuner works well. For my money's worth, both tuners should have been able to receive all three broadcast standards. It should also be able to record NTSC channels and the optical sound output should continue to work when timeshifting. The sound through the HDMI cable was not affected. With the Magnavox, one could edit a recording and then burn it onto a DVD. An edit feature with a USB output for a disc recorder would be a great touch for this device also. Just a few changes and they could have had an excellent HD tuner/recorder. As it is, I am going to knock off a couple of stars. If I choose to keep this, I may add more later. If otherwise, I will not update this review. Of course, if you live in an area that only has hi-def stations, then my concerns about the NTSC capable second tuner and NTSC recording will be of no moment to you. This machine does an excellent job with hi-def broadcasts, both viewing and recording.
As an aside, I purchased this company's PHD-8VX Media Center in Dec. 2011 to use as a tuner as I had a LG 47 inch TV that would not tune all the HD channels on my cable system. It worked well until around the first of August, then it stopped working. I contacted the company about repairing it and they immediately gave me a RMA number. It only cost me to ship it and they repaired it under warranty and returned it to me. They do stand behind their products.
Jan. 2, 2013 update --
Firmware was updated in December. The following changes (see below) were noted on epvision's website. As I noted above, this recorder needs a way to edit recordings. It also needs to be able to edit titles assigned to recordings. Titles are assigned by broadcast supplied information and if the recording starts before that info has changed, then the title of the previous show is supplied to the recorded program. Makes it hard to find the program one is looking for when there are a number of recordings to go through.
Adding a new "Recordings"section for dedicated TV Shows Playback
Yellow Hot key for directly accessing Recordings Playback
Resume playback from the previous viewing point
Ability to sort out TV programs in "Recordings"section by time, title and channel#
Now can display closed caption (CC) during TV shows playback.
Adding different forward skip and backward skip durations (20, 30, 60, 120 sec.)
Adding more FF and RWD speed options (x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, x64, x128, x256)
Timeshift buffer durations are changed to 5 min (default), 30min, 1hr, 2hr, and 4hr.
USB Pop Up screen when USB connected now can be set ON (default) or OFF.
Optional channel video lock or unlock(default) during Guide screen channel browsing
Unify time format to 12-hr AM/PM format
Release "PHD-VRX TV Show Playback Features Guide"for new featuresI rated this DVR 3 stars for the product, but I'll give 5 Stars for the seller as when I requested a return telling them I was not happy with the user friendliness of the machine, I quickly received an RMA# from them and when I sent product back, the seller quickly issued a refund.
My reason for purchasing this DVR was to replace my DTVPal DVR. I love the DTVPal, but it has some quirks like sometimes recording programs in Spanish and recording programs with no volume. I had hoped this DVR would make a good replacement.
The picture quality of this machine is great. But there were several dealbreakers which made me go back to just continuing with my DTVPal.
After setting up and trying this DVR, in the end I decided to return it and use my DTVPal DVR (bugs and all) instead.
Among others, the following were three dealbreakers for my decision:
1) Pausing live TV takes several steps. Instead of just pressing a pause button on the remote that automatically puts the live program in time shift mode, one presses a button on the remote that then prompts you if you want to timeshift. If so, then you choose for how long. I like 60 minutes so select that. But then when viewing and timeshifting another program in the future, the process starts over again, defaulted to 5 minutes 2) no skip forward or backward 30 seconds to go past commercials. Instead only use of the forward and worst of all 3) When viewing a recorded program, there is no resume option. That is, if in middle of a program I need to stop the recorder, I can't continue by pressing the play button of that program. Instead the program starts again from the very beginning.
There aren't too many OTA DVRs to choose from and for some, this machine may be fine. But the dealbreakers mentioned above had me longing for the simplicity of my DTVpal DVR.I've been paying $160 per month to the cable company to "bundle" my internet & cable service; I just cut the cable and now the media box will pay for itself in 3 months with the savings (kept the internet). I'm now able to watch the Olympics in HD with all the DVR options (and more) that I got with the DVR box: pause, rewind, fast forward, record....it's all there. I'm so glad I can finally stop paying for cable, this media box is the secret the cable company doesn't want you to know about! One note is that you will need an external USB storage device (such as a USB flash stick) to run the extra DVR settings, but other than that setup is very easy with a setup guide in plain English & photo instructions of where everything goes. This is an edited version of the review originally submitted on Nov 21, 2012.
I upgraded the rating from 2 to 3 stars.
It turns out that some of the CONS points previously stated are not actually CONS. So I removed or modified them. Either I overlooked some things or after installing a firmware update, the flaws were corrected.
**************************************************************
I'll get to the point by mentioning the Pros and Cons and make a conclusion.
PROS:
*) Versatile Tuners: It can tune and record both Over-The-Air ("OTA") channels and unscrambled cable TV channels ("QAM"). Some HD DVR's can record only OTA channels.
*) Two tuners: So one can record 2 channels simultaneously, record one channel while watching a recorded program simultaneously, etc.
*) No subscription fee. After one buys it, there are no more fees. But one must also obtain an external hard drive (more on this in the CONS section).
*) Fast Forward feature: When watching a recorded show, one can fast forward very quickly by holding down the "NEXT" key. The NEXT key, when pressed without being held down, skips forward about 25 seconds. So, when seeing commercials(typically 3 to 4 minutes), one can press this key about 6 to 8 times to get back to the show/movie. When this NEXT key is kept held down, it "flies" to any part of the recorded program.
*) Customer Service good: I called on 3 separate occasions during weekday business hours and someone answered the phone without any waiting time and answered my questions to my satisfaction. However, when I called on one weekend night and left a voicemail, nobody returned my call.
*) Favorite Channels: One has to first create the favorites list by assigning the channels he/she likes into it. Once done, one can go directly from one channel to another without any delays. Without using favorites, browsing channels takes a long time. One can create a 2nd favorites channels list.
CONS:
*) Missing built-in Hard Disk: The DVR does not have a built-in hard disk. The product description does not explicitly state this fact. It only implies it by stating it records shows to external hard disks.
So one must obtain and attach an external hard disk to this DVR.
Since every other DVR I ever looked into has a built in hard disk, an ordinary customer would think a built-in hard disk would be included, unless otherwise stated.
It's not a big deal to me since I had planned to add an external hard disk anyway.
*) Flaw in Delayed watching of a show while it is being recorded:
This point is a bit technical & detailed: You may skip it.
After one has been recording a show (say a football game, or Grammy Awards) for an hour, and then starts to watch this recorded game on time delay while the game is still being recorded, then one should be able to watch this game for say 3 hours on time delay, because the end-of-recording point gets later as one watches game. For example, after one watched the game for 30 minutes on 1-hour time delay, the "end-of-recording" time point should be 1.5 hours. However, when one enters into a currently being recorded show, the end-of-recording time point freezes and one can watch the game for only 1 hour in this example.
In order to watch this game for more than the 1-hour on time delay (in this example) one has to exit the currently being recorded game, and then enter back into it, which gives a new (which is the current) end-of-recording time point.
This DVR has a separate but similar function called, time-shift mode, but it is limited to 1 hour. I need time-shifting for 3 to 4 hours for sporting events.
*) When one watches part of a recorded show, stops, and then watches it later, the DVR starts from the beginning of the show and does not have the ability go back to where one left off.
*) Very Minimal TV Program guide info. Since we do not pay a subscription, I should not complain about this. Titan TV's website has good TV show listings. I have an android app for this on my smartphone. Thus I do not need to go back and forth from my desktop PC to my TV/DVR.
*) Default color is bit off: One needs to manually adjust video setting. Even then, color is still slightly unnatural.
*) Cryptic naming of recorded shows: If the show has Electronic Program Guide ("EPG") data, then the program name will be part of the file. If no EPG data, then name will consist of channel number, date and time, in cryptic format.
*) No days of week displayed in timer recording: When one schedules a recording, the dates are displayed without displaying the day of the week. For example, it may display "Beauty and the Beast" on Nov 29th, but it does not display Thursday, Friday, etc. So, one has to get a calendar to create the timer recording.
*) No closed captions: I'm not deaf, but I want captions for various reasons.
For example, some documentary shows have scientific names, obscure places, etc. that are easier to understand when written.
I guess captions on recordings (& internet shows) are not yet mandated by law. Disabled people have been lobbying for captioning ...
*) While recording a channel, when one uses the favorite channels function to change to a different channel (in the same tuner), the recording stops.
Just to clarify, while recording, if one attempts to change the channel, without using the favorite channels function, the DVR does not allow the channel to be changed and displays a warning message, and the recording continues.
*) RECORD NOW flawed. When one decides to record a program that is on right now, the DVR does not have increments of 30-minutes or 1-hour. It continues to record until one manually presses the STOP button, which could be on the next day!.
In other DVR's, one would press the "REC" button once for 30-minutes, press it again for an additional 30-minutes, and so on.
*) The tuners assigns some channels incorrectly and inconsistently for Comcast Cable TV. Most channels are assigned correctly, but a few are not. For example, my ABC is channel 7-1 in my TV, but this DVR assigns it to channel 24-1. Also, tuner #1 assigns CW to channel 11-1, but tuner #2 assigns it to some other channel number.
*)Volume not stable: While watching a recorded show, each time one hits the fast forward or NEXT button, the volume gets lower. The volume gets back to normal within 15 seconds. It's possible that this issue is caused by my TV since other reviewers have not mentioned this issue.
*) Time consuming to install firmware updates: To install this, one has to perform a series of procedures. To give you an idea of the tedious process, one has to download firmware files from their website and copy it to a usb flash drive and unzip the files. Then one has to plug the usb drive into the DVR. Then DVR has to be turned off, unplugged. The DVR (both tuners) has to scan the channels again, etc, etc.
In other devices, one simply connects the device to the internet by connecting an ethernet cable from a router to the device and uses the menu to hit "update firmware", and the installing is done!
Customer service mentioned that future firmware will add many features such as remembering where the DVR left off from a previously viewed show, etc.
NOTES: (Neither PROS or CONS)
*) The product description states it will support disks up to 2 TB. So 3TB hard disks will not work on with this.
*) The PC format, NTFS, works well recording 1 show at at time, but when recording 2 shows simultaneously, recorded shows have stutter. One must use the DVR's format utility to format hard disk to "ext2" format. This is a fast format and can easily record 2 shows simultaneously.
CONCLUSION.
In general, this DVR lacks some features that are standard on other DVR's that I have used. Even with some flaws, one learns to work around them.
So one must ask, are there any other good HD DVRs without subscription fees?
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any. There are some decent SD DVR's and subscription DVR's, but those are not what I'm looking for.
So lacking any better alternative choices, I'll keep it..
----UPDATE----
As of 3/6/12 another new firmware update is available. There have been reports of locking up and getting stuck in "boot".
This has addressed a few more issues including the ability to access the Manual Recording screen directly and a new Conflict management screen. With this and the previous update last December, I have raised my rating to 3 stars. Though that is still generous, but this shows that they are trying to address the problems.
.
If you never owned a DVR before, or have low expectations, it will probably suffice as long as you can deal with all the shortcomings. If you have had or had experience with a TiVo Moxi, or Sony, it won't.
It's too bad a small Asian manufacture can't communicate better with people that have extensive DVR experience knowing what is required to have a good user experience.
It's a great tuner, but only a fair recorder, until more of the numerous "issues" posted elsewhere are resolved.
Pros;
1. Two tuners (ATSC for OTA and QAM for CATV) with two separate inputs that most don't have. This also allows using two antennas pointed different directions vs using a rotor. Analog enabled only in one tuner, but see below,
2. Tuner performance is one of the best I have seen yet. I have problems with a mix of extremely strong and weak stations from the same direction. This handles them better than the other 5 or 6 tuners I have or have had,
3. The ability to add individual channels one at a time something TiVo fails miserable at. Also, the ability to skip the scan process and just enter known physical channel numbers of just the stations you are interested eliminating the hassle of deleting all the others you don't want. This is especially nice for CATV as long as you know the physical channel numbers,
4. Record two programs at once while watching a previously recorded program,
5. Very low 1 watt standby current and low 'on' current; 15 watts w/o HDD, 22 watts with 2.5" HDD attached,
6. Attached HDD does spin down during standby unlike most DVR's, but runs continuous while 'on',
7. Ability to add an external hard drive in an enclosure and transfer recording to a Windows PC (with proper drivers installed),
8. Ability to play certain types of files from a PC or from a USB drive,
9. Front panel controls duplicate many remote functions, also a channel or record mode display (depending on what mode it is in),
10. Manual, station based & Internet time settings. There should be little worry about having a correct clock setting (other than a power failure),
11. Firmware updates, new and past are both available on their site.
Cons;
1. No integrated Guide for both tuners. You must switch back and forth to program the tuners.
2. Existing Guide is limited PSIP data which is station dependent. Not all stations have this and if so, it can be as little as a few hours. It's best to use TitanTV for listings, writing them down through the week and manually programming your choices VCR style. Guide has problem displaying data that extends out more than a couple of days. Comparing this to the older DTVPal, some stations that show data out many days, only show a day or so here,
3. Excessive false contouring/banding in dark areas depending on program content (lower bitrate material),
4. Childish use of icons causing one has to guess what they are and what they mean instead of plain text for the menu sections. Confusing menu structure,
5. No ability to record analog stations (no encoder included for cost cutting). Analog tuner only enabled in tuner 1 (even though both tuners are identical),
6. No component output for older TV's or TV's with all HDMI inputs occupied, even though provision was made for same (holes in rear panel and circuit board space for chip),
7. HDMI audio is only stereo PCM (optical has 5.1),
8. Audio adjustments are only through the HDMI output. Analog & optical can not be adjusted, even mute & volume,
9. Slow channel changing even with no HDD attached or recording,
10. Default video settings are off. Contrast is too high, brightness is way too low. Settings have to be re-initialized while in the Video portion of MediaPlayer for them to take effect even though they have been set previously,
11. No provision for a internal HDD, but it can easily be modified to do so,
12. Internal format utility requires bare drives to be initialized first. Since that has to be done in a PC, you might as use EaseUS Partition manager to also format it to ext2. If you buy one of those 'all in ones' where the drive & enclosure are one, you risk the chance of not being to remove or replace the drive or enclosure separately when it dies,
13. No hard drive included,
14. Remote control is small and buttons close together. Layout is also lacking, with one button mislabeled and others in wrong locations.
There is a dedicated thread at AVScience forums under HDTV Recorders on this. I posted chassis photos of the internal HDD I installed there.

Philips Wireless Phone Jack System - Turn any AC outlet into a Phone Jack
I have been searching for something to allow me to put a multifunction fax machine in a room without a phone jack. Let me tell you, I didn't want to run wires, or spend a lot of money on this. I found some reviews of other products here on Amazon that recommended the Philips wireless phone jack system. I'm SO happy with this purchase! It worked immediately, and with very little setup. You just plug the base into an outlet near a working phone jack. Connect the base to the phone jack, then place the receiver in an outlet in the room you want the phone or fax. Then you just run the phone cable from the fax to the receiver. And presto! Both the base and the receiver have an indicator light on them (green for "online", red for "line down"). My only complaint is that they are bulky. But I don't care as long as I don't have to pay the phone company to run cables and install a new jack. Thank you Philips!Quick and easy to set up; just plug one unit in near an existing telephone outlet, and plug in the phone line into the "line" jack, and the phone into the other jack. I got this wireless phone jack so I could hook up a phone line to my Dish Network TV set box, to allow it to display Caller ID on my TV. Works great, but sometimes the Caller ID shows up on the TV when we aren't getting a phone call! It usually displays unknown number, and some random characters for the name. Must be some interference.Buy Philips Wireless Phone Jack System - Turn any AC outlet into a Phone Jack Now
These units relay the signals via the A/C wiring that it is plugged into and not via radio-frequency signals (like e.g. cordless phones do). The pro of that approach is that in principle it can reach throughout the house (or building) with little reduction in signal strength. However, it also means that noise on the A/C wires comes through the extended phone line, and in my case that noise is impairing conversation. I'm not sure what is causing the bulk of the line noise, but the manual mentions dimmers, fluorescent lights, and surge protection devices as possible culprits and all of those are present in my house (and I think that's pretty common). I've tried a few different locations, but alas it didn't help. Even plugging the base and extension units in adjacent outlets sharing the same A/C box doesn't fix things. So I suspect that for many this solution (and others like it) may not work.
In addition to these problems, my units were not matched out of the box (as they are expected to be). I had to follow the re-programming procedure explained in the trouble-shooting section, and even that didn't go entirely smoothly.

Basically, I bought this item because I wanted to connect a fax machine in a place in our home where no Jack was present. I read about the interference when making voice calls in other reviews, but hoped this would not mess with fax transmissions. Truly, the noise on the line is incredible and I think it would be impossible for me to make voice calls using this phone jack; however, every fax transmission and reception has been flawless. Therefore, I would certainly recommend this for a fax machine or data machine and would give it 5 stars for this purpose alone. But I don't want to mislead those who are looking to use it with phones for voice calls (for this purpose I would give it 1 star) because I would imagine that it would be totally unusable for voice calls based on the interference I can hear when the fax is dialing to send facsimiles. Therefore, I have given it 3 stars overall!Want Philips Wireless Phone Jack System - Turn any AC outlet into a Phone Jack Discount?
It performs as advertised. I needed phone line in my office so my wife can use her TTY phone from her desk with the nearest phone jack over 50 feet away in another room. After reading reviews for other similar devices I found it very confusing as to whether it was voice only, data only, or it supported both. My wife's phone passes both voice and data.Because the descrition for the Phillips jack said it supported both voice and dial up internet, I went with it. I am happy to report that the relay phone does indeed work as well as caller ID.

Does not come with a shoe mount, but those are easily bought.
A little long, but not really a big deal.
If mine broke today, I'd order a new one exactly the same right away, it is the best you can get without going into thousands of dollars. The Sennheiser ME33 w/K6 is a no-brainer for anyone. Excellent audio quality, built-in phantom power (excellent battery life) so you can use it with a DSLR. (Far better than the Rode Vidmic) I think this mic is a bargin and is just a great, all-around choice for many sound applications. A little long, but worth it--This is one of the best microphones currently on the market. Besides affordability, the quality is awesome, which makes it unnecessary to purchase something more expensive. This is great equipment for the amateur as well as the pro, outside or inside, film production or music recordings. An all-around great deal! Highly recommended!
The Sennheiser mic is great and I'm very happy with the kit, but I had to get it from a different seller. The first seller, DVeStore shipped the kit without the windscreen. When I contacted them about it they told me to buy the windscreen (again) and they would reimburse me later. That is unacceptable IMO. Amazon I trust, others not so much. I sent it back and purchased it from the seller Videoscope they got it right and it has worked flawlessly. Five stars for the product and Videoscope, 2 stars for DVeStore.

Denon DVD-5910CI A/V Progressive Scan DVD Audio/SACD Player with Realta T2 HQV

- DDVC (Dual Discrete Video Circuit) proprietary technology
- Realta T2 HQV chip by Teranex
- 10-bit precision video scaling by DVDO
- HDMI 1080p / DVI 1080i digital video
- Burr Brown PCM-1792 24bit/192kHz DACs
The sound quality is excellent. It has the best DACs in the business the flagship Burr-Brown PCM-1792 (DSD Discrete). The PCM-1796, which is featured in the Denon AVP-A1HDCI, Denon AVR-5308CI, Yamaha Z11, & Onkyo 905, is actually the second-in-line model. The PCM-1792 is the top-of-the line.
The thing about MOST SACD machines is that they don't have the DISCRETE DSD-to-Analog conversion. Most SACD players have to convert DSD to PCM first, and then convert to Analog. But the 5910CI has discrete DSD. However, as with all DSD-discrete SACD machines, you can only get DSD-discrete if you bypass all bass management and set all your speakers to full range 20 Hz 20 kHz. The reason is because bass management can only be done in the PCM domain, not analog.
The picture quality is outstanding. The Video chip in the 5910CI is the flagship Silicon Optix Realta, which is also featured in the Denon AVP-A1HDCI. It can upscale your picture to full 1080p. The 5910CI scored a Perfect HQV score of 130/130 points!
The built quality is awesome. It feels extremely rigid and well-built. Weighing about 43 lbs, it is very heavy for a SACD/DVD-A player.
Conclucion: the Denon 5910CI is an amazingly built SACD/DVD-A/DVD-V/CD player that has outstanding Picture and Sound quality.

Philips BDP3406 Blu-ray Disc Player - 1080p - Black (BDP3406/F7) -

- BLURAY PLAYER W/ WIFI / NET TV NETFLIX/VUDU/BLOCKBUSTER/FILM FRESH
The player arrived within two days, in a very timely manner. Hookup was very simple -just the power source and an HDMI cable from the player to the TV were necessary for basic set-up and the player was ready to go. BluRay movies are pristine on our TV (we have an LG 1080/120hz LCD set). It provides a beautiful BluRay picture of the highest quality. This player is easy to operate, with only four buttons to have to navigate: power, eject, play, and stop.
I have two issues with this player, which are relatively minor, but are why I'm not giving this player a full five stars.
First, the remote is terrible. So bad! Basically, one has to stand within three feet of the player to get it to work, which defeats the purpose of being able to control the player from across the room or from a distance. One must push the buttons on the remote very hard to get a response from the player and sometimes I have had to hold the remote in different positions (high up, pointing down; upside down; tipped backward at a angle) to get it to work. I'll note that the remotes for the two Philips DVD players I mentioned above are also difficult to use in the same way, so I'll chalk this up to an issue with Philips' remote design. It's really a pain.
My second issue is that the player itself is very lightweight. I don't have a problem with this intrinsically; however the player slides backward when you push any button without any action occurring because the buttons are not getting enough pressure, as the player slides back. I think this problem can be solved with little round rubber anti-slide stick-on anchors that I can stick on the bottom of the unit. Not that big of a deal, but I do have to hold the player down firmly with my left hand to eject a disc or try and press play with my right hand, etc.
Overall, this is a fine BluRay player with a lot of functions that I know I'll find useful. I especially like the alternate file type functions and I'm looking forward to trying the Netflix streaming feature. I would recommend this player to someone looking for a basic BluRay player with nifty additional functions.

Sony DVD/VCR Progressive Scan Combo Player SLV-D281P
When deciding to purchase a dvd/vcr combo the only things that concern me is the picture quality, ease of operation and the price. This inexpensive easy to use unit has an excellent dvd and vcr picture playback quality that is probably second to none. Remember-This is a dvd player and not a dvd recorder. Also keep in mind that this unit does not have a built in tuner. This means that in order for the unit to function you will need a separate tuner(such as a cable box or satellite box) THAT HAS audio/video jack outputs along with a television THAT HAS audio/video jack inputs. I am sure that the unit being tunerless is what makes for a better picture. While there is nothing exceptionally bad about Sony SLV-D281P DVD/VCR combo player, there is also nothing exceptionally good about this unit either. Like in the previous reviews, this is a player and not a recorder unless you are using the VCR side. VCR side still function as a recorder as always. There is also no tuner in this unit and thus, there is no cable input or output in this machine. I found that somewhat disappointing and real pain since I usually like to connect my cable to the VCR and then to the TV. Instead, all the connections are done with RCA cables but you have to buy an another set of RCA cables initially since Sony provides only one set of cables. This will allowed you hook up the RCA cables from the cable converter box to this unit. You still need to buy another set to connect this unit to your TV set. In case I forget, you have to buy another set of cables to connect the DVD player half to your TV. Of course, to connect the unit to the audio system will require more cables. This unit does not come with a DTS or DD decoder so your receiver better have one if you want sound separation. (Hopefully, you already have these cables from your previous usages. It should be noted that if your cable box do not have a RCA outlets, this unit will be totally useless for your needs.)Another minor complaint is that the function lights are pretty dimmed with this unit. At times, depending on the lighting around the unit, it can be difficult to see if this unit is on or off. The remote also appears to be bit on the weak side. Its range of angle appears to be pretty limited to direct on approach.
On the other hand, it does the job it designed for pretty well. The VCR works fine and the progressive scan DVD provide good images for your standard DVD. I agreed with some of the previous reviewers that this unit is really geared toward a very basic and limited needs of the user. I can't see anyone who owned a real home entertainment system using this unit as their primary player.

I'm very happy with this player. We use it all day long. I bought it for my 3 year old daughter's room. Her tv is not hooked up to cable. We just use it for her to watch her videos and DVDs. She can watch Sesame Street tapes all day and we keep them playing. This machine is up to the task. Obviously, we haven't recorded on it, but the picture plays very clearly and the sound is great. Remote is easy to use as well. Wonderful seller. Fast shipping. Would recommend.Read Best Reviews of Sony DVD/VCR Progressive Scan Combo Player SLV-D281P Here
When I googled VCR/DVD player with tuner the Amazon website comes up and if you click on the link this product is one that is in the grouping of VCR/DVD players that should have a tuner BUT it does not. I was further deceived because this is the replacement model for the unit I have that does have a tuner built in. Upon receiving the product and reading on the outside of the box I could see this was not what I was wanting to purchase. I had to send it back at my expense and there is still a 10% restocking fee even if unopened. Not like returning something to a local store.Want Sony DVD/VCR Progressive Scan Combo Player SLV-D281P Discount?
As noted in other reviews, this model doesn't have a tuner or a coax connector, and also it won't record a DVD onto a VHS tape. I bought it in person (at Costco, our local "big box" wholesale store, so the deal was even sweeter), and I read the limitations on the outside of the box before I purchased. I also already knew our TV set had the required red, white, and yellow input jacks. It would be very frustrating to order online and not realize what connectivity this model includes... and doesn't include. We use this DVD/VCR combo with a standalone TV set which serves only as a monitor, with no TV broadcast access either by cable or airwaves. This model is excellent for this purpose.
It was so easy to set up, I didn't even need to look at the instructions. If you can match red, white, and yellow plugs to jacks, and you understand the difference between "line in" and "line out," you can set this up in a couple minutes. If you are confused on those points, you can follow the instruction manual.
Switching between VHS and DVD play is effortless and intuitive. If you are using the controls on the front of the unit, you can go from DVD to VHS play without adjusting anything. If you are using the remote control, you press a button to select either "DVD" or "VIDEO." If you have a Sony TV set, the remote control will work on that too! (We don't have a Sony TV, so we have to keep our old TV remote to adjust the volume, and turn the TV on and off.)
Like all DVD players and VCRs, this combo should be placed on a level surface while operating. We learned this lesson the hard way when our old DVD player and VCR both broke down. We had them perched on top of the TV set and they were not level. We had trouble with discs skipping and tapes having tracking problems, until both machines stopped working completely. We built a new shelf just for our new SLV-D281P to keep it level, and playback is flawless.
The most important thing to realize about this model is that the only connectivity is through the red, white, and yellow RCA jacks. If this fits with your existing equipment, or you can easily obtain any additional adapters you may need, then the SLV-D281P is an excellent choice.
