Belkin HDMI to DVI-D Cable 8 feet Cord

Belkin HDMI to DVI-D Cable 8 feet CordI purchased this cable to hook my Dell XPS m1710 to my Mitsubishi 720p projector. The first cable i got was showing a red distorted picture on my projector and no picture at all on my samsung lcd panel.

I went to exange the cable and got one wich was working but there were no blue color on the screen. So i went to get my money back but they insist on trying a third cable, testing it on their own laptop and screen in the store. I was working goog this time.

I may have bough 2 cable that had problem in the manufacturing process, maybe the only 2 bad cable in the line but it was very frustrating.

I agreed with the reviewer complaining about the package. There is an easy pull tab on the rear of the package, but it only give you acces to the middle of the cable, the connector are stuck in the front of the packaging, so you have to use a combination of knife, scissor and patience to pull it out, very frustrating after the 3rd time.

No more belkin cables for me, never again.

I bought a 32" Samsung LCD for my Mac Mini. "Pest-buy" only had one model of DVI-HDMI cable, and they wanted $49.99 for it! Needless to say this cable is way better quality and value.

SanDisk Sansa c150 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)

SanDisk Sansa c150 2 GB MP3 Player
  • Sleek, ultra-thin digital audio/image player with 2 GB of flash memory
  • Compatible with MP3, WMA, and WMA-DRM10 music files (PlaysForSure)
  • FM tuner with record capability and voice recorder
  • 1.2-inch color TFT LCD displays album art, photo thumbnails
  • Single AAA battery provides up to 15 hours of continuous play

I have owned three other Sandisk MP3 players and had no problems with any of them. Some of the issues in other reviews here can be solved by reading the manual.

Simply set to MSC mode and the player acts just like a removeable hard drive when connected via USB. Very simple to transfer or delete songs etc.

The 2Gb is reasonably good capacity... in fact, great capacity considering the price. The FM radio works fine, although a little trickier to navigate than some older sandisk models. Color screen is good, although a little too small to be practicable to view photos on. The song title can also take a little too long to scroll fully.

I had no trouble with sound quality or crackling or clipping at start of song. Sound quality is fine! Battery life also seems good for me. I have even ran some el cheapo batteries with it and had good life up to the stated specs (although this depends on how much you press buttons and have the screen lit up).

Voice recorder is handy, although I find I don't use it too much, your mileage may vary though. As a basic MP3 player and radio, I find it hard to beat given the price tag. I have no issues with size of the unit. Sure its not as thin as an Ipod Nano, but it takes one AAA battery which you can get anywhere. No need to have a power point to recharge.

I think some people expect perfection for a budget price!

Buy SanDisk Sansa c150 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Now

This is a player that does everything well but not spectacular. Some wma 64kbps songs skip while others don't. Same songs play fine in other players. Thumbnails of photos load very easily thanks to the included software. Amazon claims the screen is TFT. Well, that's news to me. Nowhere does SanDisk make this claim on the packaging or on the install CD. Comparisons to STN and TFT screens on other players lead me to believe that the screen is STN. Or maybe DSTN. No way is it TFT. This player is new and already being discounted heavily. You may want to wait for the right deal or splurge for the higher end Sansa E series which is a much better investment.

I like the styling and the sound of this device, but the implementation is seriously flawed. Battery life is abysmal I took it on a flight to Seoul (12 hours) and chewed through 3 Duracells. One problem may be that the backlight turns on (seemingly at random) at the beginning of some songs, and there doesn't appear to be a way to turn this off. I'm on my second unit and it appears to be no better.

Audible functionality is also limited. It has no bookmark function (although it does remember your last place in a file). And the FF/Rew functionality is terrible the file moves ~1 second per second of button press for the first 10 seconds, than advances at ~1 minute per second of button press. There's no way to easily back up 10 or so seconds in the event e.g. you miss a word.

And even though this device has been out for a while, Sundisk has no FW updates on their web site, making me wonder whether these problems will be fixed. My advice: look elsewhere until Sundisk takes some action.

Want SanDisk Sansa c150 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Discount?

I bought my c150 from JR Music World for 49.95 plus 6.95 shipping. Being an audiophile, I'm a little disappointed in the sound quality, not that it's bad, it just doesn't equal my iRiver T30 or my HP 5700 PDA for clarity, both of which cost more so the old adage, "you get what you pay for" applies here. I love the navigations on this unit; very easy to select songs, settings, FM radio. One thing to note is that right out of the box the unit is configured in the settings for "normal" volume range. I point this out because I think many who have bought this probably thought the audio level it puts out is too low. When selecting the "high" volume range, suddenly there is more than enough level for any situation. The earphones that come with the unit are good, but I have very sensitive ears (skin) which can not tolerate this type. After 20 minutes of these in my ears I'm in painful agony. I always end up using a different set of earphones like the Sennheiser CX300 which have a soft insert and great sound. Given the price, I think it deserves 4 stars.

I ordered this player and it was great for about a week and then it froze when I turned it on. The company that sells it, TIGERDIRECT, has not responded to my emails so I went directly to SanDisk. SanDisk gave me a promt response and sent me a label to return the product with free shiping. Another bad thing about this player is that it organizes your music in it's own way and has trouble figuring out artists even if you have the artists name on the song.

Sony Ericsson W595i QuadBand Walkman Cellular Phone - 3.15MP Camera W595 - International Version with No WarrantyI really like the functionality of this phone. For me this is a walkman with a phone in it. I use it for music every day, it connects with my bluetooth headset and my bluetooth car stereos flawlessly. I would have given it five stars however, at times it will only allow speaker phone after being disconnected from a bluetooth device. Turning off then on again corrects the problem. I haven't gone to the Sony support site as it may need a software patch.

Samsung BD-C6500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Samsung BD-C6500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
  • Internet@TV
  • Wireless LAN built-in (Wireless LAN adaptor not included)
  • AllShare?
  • BD-Live (Profile 2.0), 1GB local storage
  • 1GB built-in memory
  • Advanced Connectivity With AllShare

This is my first Blue Ray player and I love it.

Took a chance on this Samsung and ordered it without a lot of information availabe because it is so new but glad I did.

Just got it out of the box today and everything works great. Easily set up the wireless to my home network (and it saved the IP address and encryption key info so I do not need to sign on each time).

There are few units (if any) with all the features this unit offers at this price.

This unit offers solid access to You Tube, various videos on demand services, Pandora (love Pandora!), and it sees all my videos and photos on my computer in multiple ways (with their Samsung PC Share Manager and direct acess) all through the network. The pics load a little slow, but the files are big. Pretty sure if I reduce them down access will speed up.

Decent You Tube search feature (for a TV remote as a typing device). Easily found my own You Tube videos.

In any case, all locked in solid with minimal hassle.

I would give it 5 stars except there is still a learning curve on managing my PC folders and I am still getting the hang of some Samsungs apps, but I am confident it will all work out. I initially entered the encyption key incorrectly and did not get a password error but instead it just said the IP address was wrong. A restart with the right key resolved all.

The first HD video I played was a home video made on my Canon HD Vixia HF200 consumer video camera and it looked absolutely great. For a first view, this player is excellent. Canon VIXIA HF200 HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 15x Optical Zoom

I already have a Samsung 40 inch LCD HD TV so I also figured they would compliment each other.

Oh, by the way, I had a customer service issue that was not the fault of Amazon and they resolved it in grand fashion. Absolutely superb customer serivce. Superb.

Yep, I am a happy camper with the whole deal

============================================================

March 17 update

I continue to enjoy this player. I had one blue-ray disc that did not work right a rental, subsequent discs worked fine. I also see services being added. A few free games (nothing great, but there), Blockbuster on Demand is now installed, weather, USA today, and more is coming. Still, my favorite feature by far is being able to view shared files on the TV from my laptop computer through a wireless connection via the home network.

Viewing seemed a bit slow at first, but once I began compressing the JPEG's to a more "uploadable" size, they snapped through slideshows with ease. Camcorder videos formatted to WMV are easily played from my laptop and watched on the TV and they are smooth. It is just so cool to create it on my laptop and watch it on my TV. Just amazing stuff. Love it.

Had to re-enter my encyption key once right after a software update but other than that one time, have not had to enter a password again. One other software update had no effect.

I upped the rating to 5 star. It is excellent. I am already beginning to take it for granted like a good chair that always just works. Not sure what else I can possibly expect at this price.

I plan on keeping this review up to date, so as things change I will keep adding to it. I will also try to answer any questions in comments.

April 2, 2010

I received this player from Amazon today. Within the first hour I had it hooked up to my home theater system, connected to my wi-fi network, updated the firmware over the web, connected to Netflix, and connected to Pandora. At that point I was ready to log in to Amazon and post a 5 star review. I am glad that I held off because there have been a few problems, but not enough to make me want to return the player.

Even though I have the latest firmware, 1009.1, Vudu does not work for me. I get an error message when I try to start it (I will post the error here tomorrow; right now I am watching a movie!). I was able to set my location in Accuweather and change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit. However, when I went back into Accuweather the location was correct but it reverted back to Celsius. I went in and out of it several times and set it back to Fahrenheit but each time it would go back to Celsius.

I went to the Vudu site and did some searches on Samsung, but could not find anything helpful. I also did some Google searches without much luck. The most useful information always pointed back to the Amazon reviews for this product.

I played a regular DVD and it did an OK job although it seemed a little over-exposed. I will update my comments as I play more DVDs. I haven't played a blu-ray DVD yet because I don't own one but will pick one up tomorrow.

Pandora radio sounds excellent! I have a Pioneer VSX-9040TXH receiver (which I love -highly recommended) with some quality 5.1 speakers and the sound is amazing.

At this point I am irritated that Vudu shows up as an app on my player, but it doesn't work and I can't find any useful information about why. I am also irritated that Accuweather, in spite of reports from previous reviewers here, doesn't work. It seems like someone is dropping the ball. It would be nice if the blu-ray player would provide some kind of status about whether an app is functional or not so that I as a user do not have to waste my time trying to fix something if it's unfixable by me.

Right now I am keeping things in perspective. As a DVD player, blu-ray player, Netflix player, and Pandora player it is still worth the money. I am certainly glad that I didn't get just a standalone blu-ray player because Netflix and Pandora both add a lot of value.

April 3rd 2010

I was showing my friend the Internet features of this player today (Day 2) and was surprised that when I went into Vudu, the error message that I had been getting went away, and I was able to start my Vudu service! Setup was very easy. Accuweather, however, still would not keep the temperature in Fahrenheit. More later ...

April 4th 2010

I watched two Vudu movies yesterday. Things worked very well. The HDX quality is very good, as is the 5.1 audio. I don't like the Vudu interface as much as Apple TV's, but the quality is as good or better. There is also a very good selection of movies on Vudu. So, if you want HD-quality streaming videos with great audio, this blu-ray player can do that through the Vudu service. Very nice feature.

I tried a few more things:

Rovi TV listings. You set it up on the blu-ray player. It shows what is on TV over a 2 hour period. It doesn't appear to let someone browse through shows more than 2 hours out unless I haven't figured that out yet.

I added another location in Accuweather. I set both locations to Fahrenheit, exited, went back in and again it reverted to Celsius. Why do they even bother to put out software if they can't do it right? They have had time to fix it and haven't. It gives Accuweather a bad name.

The Blockbuster app appears to be working, but I didn't watch anything because I am a Netflix subsriber rather than Blockbuster.

USA Today news is something I may use. What I like is that I can get titles of news stories by category, and quickly bring up the article. It's a very fast way to get the news compared to a web browser for example.

YouTube appears to be working. There is a log in options so it should be able to access your account if you set one up. I don't have a YouTube account so didn't try that.

At this point I have tested all the apps and the only one not working correctly is Accuweather.

I will try some of the other features this week, including playing a blu-ray. Any suggestions for my first blu-ray movie?

April 13, 2010

I was able to set up Blockbuster on Demand. Even though my main computer is a Mac and Blockbuster on Demand doesn't run on a Mac, I was able to register a new Blockbuster on Demand account on my Mac and confirm it just by entering a 5 digit code on the Samsung player.

At this point I have rented movies using the Samsung's Netflix streaming, Blockbuster on Demand, and Vudu apps, and have been able to listen to music on Pandora. In addition, I have watched many blu-ray movies (about 20 to date) without any problems.

April 18, 2010

I have played more blu-ray and regular DVDs and have not had any problems. Everything played fine.

Tonight I checked for a software update and one was available. I like that I could check right from the player, and not have to download separately. There is an option to use a USB drive, but it's not necessary if the player is hooked up to the network.

A MAJOR ANNOYANCE: AccuWeather is STILL not working. When I go in and change it to Fahrenheit, go out, and come back in, the temperatures are all in Celsius. Who is dropping the ball -Samsung, it's your player, and obviously you should know about this problem, so WHY aren't you fixing the problem or getting AccuWeather to fix it? Do you care about your product -well if so, then FIX THE PROBLEM.

Fortunately, the major services work fine: Netflix insta-queue streaming, Vudu, Blockbuster on Demand, and Pandora.

June 4, 2010

AccuWeather now works. The Fahrenheit setting sticks.

This will be the last entry of this review.

I would buy this player again. The Internet features are very nice. Netflix streaming, Blockbuster on Demand, Pandora, and Vudu being the main ones.

I have not had any problems playing normal DVD's or blue-ray DVDs. They don't rewind or fast forward as smoothly as I would like, but it does what it needs to do.

It's not an expensive player, and it does a lot. So, I recommend this player.

First, my rating is based on three parameters:

1. Is the picture of high quality?

2. Does the player load quickly? (This is the main reason I purchased the Samsung.)

3. Wireless internet

In regards to picture quality, I've tested a few DVDs and the picture quality seems first rate. Second, this player does live up to its marketing. From the time I close the player to the first menu is 25 seconds or less. That works for me!. And last, the wireless worked pretty much straight forwardly.

So for me, the player delivered on the parameters I care about and that's why I gave it 5 stars.

Want Samsung BD-C6500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Discount?

I currently own the previous model Samsung Blu-ray player, the BD-P3600. I can say that the BD-C6500 is a huge improvement in all areas. The remote is leaps and bounds better. Faster load times. PC streaming works with far less hassle. Improved on-screen GUI. Physically smaller and MUCH more stylish appearance.

In my opinion, this is the most feature-packed Blu ray player on the market in this price range. Sony has no PC streaming until July. Panasonic has little on VCast until later in the year. LG has no 7.1 analog audio output. This Samsung unit is the one model that truly had everything that I was looking for including 1GB onboard memory. All for under $250.00.

The only question is ... why do manufacturers insist on making the power cord as short as possible??

**PLEASE NOTE: I do not work for Samsung, nor do I have any stake in the company in any way (outside of wanting their stuff to work properly because I own it)**

After looking at blu-ray players for a LONG time, I was finally glad to learn the new generation of Samsung players had been released. I purchased mine from a local big box retailer only because I couldn't be patient to wait for the delivery from Amazon. I'm sorry Amazon; please forgive me.

So far, I've really enjoyed the player. I own two Samsung flat screen HDTVs, and I trusted their ability to produce a player that generated a great image with great sound decoding. Therefore, I primarily purchased this model because of the built in wireless networking (to stream Netflix) and the ability to interface with my home PC. Networking setup was very easy. I had some problems in the beginning, but this was a router setting issue, not the player's fault.

I have yet to thoroughly test the "Samsung Apps," but I have been streaming "Lost" from Netflix. The image is great, albeit the connection and streaming queue time is slower than my ROKU player. Once it loads and buffers, it is fine.

Disc loading times are fine for both blu-ray and regular dvds. I don't understand why people have problems or complaints here because I've never owned a dvd player that loads discs "immediately."

Upconversion video is great--except on Warner Bros. dvds, but that's not the player's fault. I experienced the same problem with my old Sony player. It has been rumored that Warner purposefully has poorly encoded their recently released, regular dvds to push people toward their new blu-ray stock. I plan to purchase the Harry Potter series on blu-ray soon, so I'll report back on whether the image quality is better.

Finally, the sound is awesome. As an audiophile, this is most important to me, and finally I have a player that puts my amplifier to work. The 7.1 Dolby and DTS HD decoding is better than the theater, in my opinion. This is only true for blu-rays; with standard dvds, the sound is the same as my previous player--which is still good. It just doesn't use each speaker channel as much. Also, Netflix streaming does not seem to support Dobly Digital or DTS decoding at this time.

My only complaint is the remote control. Unfortunately, Samsung can design great electronics, but they must have the local elementary school design their remotes. Actually, I think an elementary student could do a better job. This complaint is across all Samsung products, though, not just this one. I was hoping after a number of consumer complaints that they would have changed their "motif" to a more intuitive design.

For my first blu-ray player, I highly recommend this one to others. I'll update this review if anything changes either way.

============================

Updated: March 8, 2011

It's been a year since I purchased this bluray player, and even though Amazon is not directly selling it any longer, I think it's important to report a significant problem I've been having with the player. This problem started at the end of 2010. Audio for other applications (e.g., Netflix, Vudu, etc.) does not work when there's a disc in the player. As soon as I take the disc out, it starts working again. Samsung support has been extremely unhelpful, and I think they may have stopped supporting this player altogether. A quick Google search shows that other people are experiencing the same issue without any help. The most recent interaction with support indicated that the player wasn't designed to "play a disc and play streaming video at the same time." I stopped trying to get help after this answer. Hopefully, they decide to do the right thing and release a software update to address the problem. I've lowered my rating to 3 stars, and it's subject to change depending on Samsung's willingness to update.

Degen DE1127 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio with 4GB MP3 Player, Voice Recorder & E-book Reader

Degen DE1127 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio with 4GB MP3 Player, Voice Recorder & E-book Reader
  • 4 GB flash memory MP3 player for music, radio program, e-book (TXT file only) & voice recording for up to 215 hours (40 kbps)
  • 248 preset memories + built-in charger + LED back-lit display
  • Digital clock + Sleep timer + Key lock + Numeric volume indicator
  • Pocket-size world-band radio with built-in speaker & earphone jack for private listening
  • 30-day money back guarantee & 1-year Manufacturer's warranty

The DE1127 is much smaller than I expected. The performance of both AM and FM is better than I expected. Changing batteries is a challenge as has been documented by others. Often, the radio will come back to life with menus set to Chinese only. In order to set the unit back to English, or your preferred language, if different than Chinese, you must carefully count the menu steps through two levels of menus to arrive back at your preferred language setting. Not difficult, but genuinely a pain to do, until after you've done it a few times.

The sensitivity of the voice recorder is poor, so I would not judge this unit suitable for recording classes or meetings, but it's fine for verbal personal note taking. When recording from the radio, it sets the volume of the radio to a rather loud fixed level, which cannot be altered while recording. Also, while recording radio programs, additional digital hash/noise is occasionally introduced into the recording that is not present while listening to the radio alone.

Don't buy this unit for the recorder, buy it for the radio. (It's nice and small, and sounds good and performs well for its diminutive size.) Just remember this radio is as delicate as it is small. It will not survive rough treatment, but should be fine if you treat it with care.

I think a younger child would like this... the AM/FM and MP3 give good sound and reception. The SW/MW, as to be expected, don't pickup much without a long-wire antenna.

I'd say great gift and learning tool for a younger child.

VideoSecu Outdoor Day Night Vision 700TVL CCTV Infrared Security Camera Built-in 1/3" SONY Exview C

VideoSecu Outdoor Day Night Vision 700TVL CCTV Infrared Security Camera Built-in 1/3' SONY Exview CCD II EFFIO-E DSP 65 IR Leds 8-20mm Varifocal Lens 3X Zoom Camera for DVR Home Surveillance System IR549K WB7We now have five of these cameras. All are advertised as having a 9-22mm varifocal lens. All of our lenses are indeed variable, but two of the cameras are showing about a 22mm field at their widest setting. The other three show 9mm at the widest and 22mm at the narrowest, as is proper. We needed the wide angle 9mm, so two of the cameras are not as advertised. We did find a use for one of the faulty lenses, but the other is useless to us and we have contacted the seller for a resolution and are awaiting a reply. No doubt it will end up costing us somehow to make the switch. The camera cases are beefy and nice looking, but if you open them up you find a tiny little electronics card inside. The cases are just for show, to make you think you're getting something substantial. The cases could be 1/8th their size. The top plates (rain covers) fit badly (loose) on ALL of our cameras. The instructions are worthless and we can find no other online support. The LED lights are fairly bright, but also fairly tightly focused, so you don't get a broad beam. Colors are fine. Detail is fine also for a cheap 700 line camera. All worked out of the box and none have given any trouble except for the lens discrepancy. An example of the lens problem: We have two cameras in the backyard showing the back of the house. Each one is in an opposite corner of the house at exactly the same distance from the house. The properly functioning camera shows the entire house from side to side. The faulty camera, even at its widest setting, shows only one window. We're not sure if these are Chinese or Russian, but either way, we're really weary of overseas products that don't work properly. When a new camera arrives, we must now mount yet another expedition to the roof and remove the bad one and remount the good one. Tired of it.

I ordered 3 VideoSecu Outdoor 700TVL cameras. All arrived with some sort of "quality control" issue. Camera #1 had two screws missing from the case which allowed the case to separate. There goes the water resist feature! Fortunately I had the correct size screws (#2-56) to install and fix the issue. Camera #1 is now installed and working fine. Camera #2 had a loud rattle inside. I disassembled the camera and a large screw fell out of the camera. I couldn't find a place inside the camera that was missing a screw so I reassembled the camera without the screw and now Camera #2 is installed and working fine. Camera #3 had a loose drip shield. Upon inspection, I found the shield mounting plate to be loose. I tightened the mounting plate, installed the drip shield and now Camera #3 is installed and working fine. Bottom line? Product is good overall but QC from VideoSecu is poor.

This really looked like a good CCTV camera and probably is, but it arrived with two defects. The first minor defect was the fact that the screw that holds the top cover on the camera is too short with the nylon washer installed. The top cover was not secured when I received the camera. The only way to secure the cover was to remove the nylon washer, since the screw is too short. Not a big deal.

But the camera also arrived with a loose part rattling around inside the camera. I did not want to install the camera and have it short out due to the loose part inside. I returned the defective camera to EDSI for repair or replacement. EDSI requires the buyer to pay for returned products. I find this a little hard to take, since they sent me a defective camera that had a "QC Passed" sticker on the bottom of the camera. (Amazon stepped up to the plate and reimbursed me the return shipping charge).

EDSI sent me the same camera back (same serial number). They removed the nylon washer to make the top cover fit. Hmm, I could have done that. The camera still has the loose part rattling around inside of the unit.

I plan to return the defective camera once again and seek a full refund of my purchase price. And buy a camera from another company that knows what quality control means.

Camera arrived with focus gears stripped out (bad assembly and QC). I was able to rig it so it sorta worked. Colors are very blue and washed out. Night video is actually pretty good. But lens gives a so-so quality "fishbowl" juttery picture. Kind of like looking thru a peep hole in a door. I serioulsy dobut this is 700 lines resolution. Its sure not "high resolution". The "instruction manual" is a one page double sided photocopy. Looks like somebody made it on a Ditto machine. This camera is NOT waterproof, just water resistant. There are gaps where water will obviously penetrate in a heavy storm. But for $120 I guess you sorta get what you pay for. It will be ok for my back yard. Since its not Amazon prime it would be a pain in the rear to return. So I just won't buy another one of these. My Brother has ordered products from VideoSecu and warned me...I should have listened.

Day 1, plugged it in and it didn't work. I messed around with the focus and it started working again.

Day 3, cameara went blank but after about a day, it started working again.

Day 5, the camera went blank and would not come up again.

For the few moments it did work, the picture and night vision was great. However, I had to remove it and return it because it was defective.

After many back and forth email to Warehouseseller, telling them of the intermittent problems, I returned the camera for a replacement. I had to pay for that shipping too.

A few days later, I got an email back from Warehouseseller stating that they tested the camera and sent it back.

Like others reported, if you return the product to EDSI for problems, they send you the same camera back without properly testing.

Knowing it wasn't going to work, I plugged the camera into my system and sure enough, it was still broken.

Now I have to get irate with them and send the camera back on my dime again.

They kept telling me it was my connection but I used multiple wires with the power supply they provided to no avail. The wires worked just fine for other cameras.... I even went as far as to plug it into the wall directly. Still no pulse. One of the techs went as far as to tell me to use a shorter wire when they provide a 100ft wire.

When I complained back to them that I don't know what you did to test this thing, they then told me how they tested it. They tested it in a non-use case scenario. They just plug it right into a tv in their shop and somehow this worked for them. I tried it but it didn't for me.

EDSI/Warehouseseller could have saved everyone a lot of time and grief if they would have sent me an email with their findings (they think it works) before calling me a lier and just sending it back to me.

If you have countless hours to spend installing, testing, removing, returning, re-installing, re-testing re-returning and a lot of extra shipping dollars, your in luck, this is the camera for you.

Philips DVDQ35AT Progressive-Scan DVD Player

Philips DVDQ35AT Progressive-Scan DVD Player
  • Plays DVD Video, video CD, and audio CD
  • Compatible with CD-Rs and CD-RWs loaded with MP3 and AAC files
  • Includes progressive-scan compatibility with 3:2 pulldown for distortion-free viewing of 24 fps movies
  • Optical and coaxial digital-audio outputs pass Dolby Digital and DTS surround signals
  • 5-disc resume remembers your jumping-off point on the last 5 DVDs played

I bought this to replace a Sony DVD player that died after 2 years. I haven't used the progressive scan features, but I'm using it with s-video and the optical sound out, and am very happy with the sound an picture. It also seems to handle dirty or scratched disks much better than the Sony, which used to just backwards or forwards some huge amount when it ran into trouble. The Philips seems to handle it pretty gracefully. One thing I really like about the Philips is that for the time display, it shows the total time you are through the movie (is the correct DVD term "title"?). My Sony would just show me how far I was into a chapter. I like that it can display CDs of photos and play MP3 CDs. The front panel is pretty bare bones, but has the basics you need. My nits with it are pretty minor: If you turn it off with the remote, you can't just wake it up by pressing open on the front panel -you have to turn it off and one. There's no eject button on the remote (although you can debate if that's actually useful). And, it freezes up on a CD of pictures I burned from my Mac. I'm not sure how general that problem is. But, overall, I'm very happy with it.

This DVD looks nice, plays well, and sells for an unbeatable price. The thing that I like most about it is that it can play more DVDs (e.g. other region codes) than my Sony. My sony is very unforgiving in that respect. The only negative is that it takes the machine a bit long to load the DVD. But all in all, it's a great product.

Its worth paying. Its nice, plays MP3s, JPEG and all DVDs that I have tried. I have tried PAL VCDs as well.

The negative side MP3 menu is too thin.

It does not play or hangs with some DVDs, the other player I have also does the same. Whereas my laptop DVD player plays that.

Want Philips DVDQ35AT Progressive-Scan DVD Player Discount?

I purchased the Philips DVDQ35 from Amazon about a 2 months ago. It played photo CDs and regular CDs fine. The problems came when playing DVDs. On EVERY DVD I play, it starts skipping and freezing after about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours into the movie. This even includes brand new DVDs fresh from the box. I called Philips and the said it sounded like a hardware problem to them. They shipped me a brand new unit new serial and manufacture date. Guess what ... the new unit does the same thing exactly. I searched the internet for "Philips DVD player skipping" and have since found out that there are a lot of people that have been junking their Philips DVD players for exactly the same reason skipping and freezing during DVD playback. It seems Philips will gladly keep sending you new units with the same problem (YOU have to pay for the shipping back to them), but won't refund money or give you a comparable model that works. I guess instead of repeatedly sending back the players, I'll have to eat the loss and junk this one. No more Philips for me.

For the price, this dvd, video, and audio player is great.

The DVD player looks better than it does on this site.

Playing audio cd's works fine.

I am not dissappointed with this DVD player at all!

Archos DVR Snap-on for Archos 5, Archos 7 and Archos Android Internet Tablet

Archos DVR Snap-on for Archos 5, Archos 7 and Archos Android Internet TabletAt the present price, this Archos DVR Snap-on is a really poor value when compared to the Archos DVR Station. The DVR Snap-on allows you to record and playback video through low-resolution Composite Video (RCA jacks), nothing else. The DVR Station costs a bit more, but it provides you with additional features such as:

Record through S-Video or Component Video inputs (in addition to Composite video)

Playback through S-Video, Component Video or HDMI outputs

Connect to digital camera or portable hard drive through the USB port

Recharge battery through the included AC adapter

You even get a remote control with QWERTY keyboard, which is handy for surfing the web.

Last but not least, the 'HD Cinema' plug-in is included with the DVR Station but not with the DVR Snap-on. This plug-in enables you to watch MPEG-2 (DVD format) movies on the Archos 5/7. It is priced at $39.99 if you buy it separately from Archos web site. As of this writing, the price difference between DVR Station and DVR Snap-on is just $40 ($90 vs. $50). So essentially, you get all the additional features in the DVR Station for FREE!

It works alright but I think the tiny electronics involved should have been built-into the Archos 5. Maybe this will happen in future generations of the Archos.

The DRV get the job done but I feel there should have been a base with this item to aid the Archos 5 in standing. Because with attach DVR the leg stand is of no use.

JVC DOUBLE CASSETTE DECK

JVC DOUBLE CASSETTE DECKI am very pleased with the dual cassette recorder. The only drawback was the high speed dubbing wasn't really high speed. It was just fast enough to sound like mickey mouse talking but only saved a couple of minutes time over normal record. I can live with that.

This is a nice dual-cassette deck with the sound quality you would expect from JVC. The downsides, for my use, are the analog displays (rolling counters, etc.), lack of pitch control, and lack of microphone / headphone plug-ins. Digital displays make precise track positioning much easier, a real bonus when doing recordings. Pitch control is a near necessity when using pre-recorded music as a background to singing since so many songs are either too high or too low for my vocal range. A microphone input is a nice touch that eliminates the need for an external mixer when recording single-microphone voice-overs. Had I researched this deck more thoroughly I would have passed on it and gone for one with all of the features I want; however, the sound quality is good and it will serve nicely as a mixer-based recorder.

This is a solid, basic, smooth operating piece of equipment that delivers the sound on older cassettes or the ones recorded on it. Very pleased.

I bought this dual cassette recorder to enable me to digitize my old audio cassette tapes that are no longer available even in CD format. The MP3s came out very clean, no audible hiss. I'm glad I bought this over the more expensive brands and models. It doesn't have auto reverse, but I don't need it for what I do with it.

Netgear Neotv Streaming Player (ntv200-100nas) -

Netgear Neotv Streaming Player -I must admit I was more than a little apprehensive that this little box would be able to stream video seamlessly and reliably as advertised, but I was totally amazed at how well it performs. It was so easy to set it up, and the remote is wonderful! I stream Netflix daily, and love Vudu as well. I highly recommend this unit!

For the money spent on this its cool. It has all kinds of apps that come on it or that you can go download. I have on in the living room and one in my daughters room. She is 5 years old and knows how to work this thing. If you want something simple for Netflix, Hulu Plus, and whatever else.... this is it!

Uniden UDW20553 Wireless Video Surveillance System with 7-Inch LCD Color Monitor and 2 Cameras

Uniden UDW20553 Wireless Video Surveillance System with 7-Inch LCD Color Monitor and 2 CamerasI bought this at Sam's club based on the easy setup. I didn't realize it does not have a built in recorder, but that is not a major issue since it can be hooked up to a computer or recorder. I currently have mine hooked up to a spare 20" tv with built in VHS recorder. I really like the features like scan, zoom, low light, and voice. The main defect for me is that the picture quality is pretty low definition for example, you can tell that someone is standing at your gate, but you can't make out their features(zooming in actually makes it worse). I understand that this is a trade-off for the cameras being wireless; the video image is converted to mpeg format for transmission, and is low resolution to save bandwith. I'm hoping to find a compatible higher resolution camera, or may end up returning it and going to a highher resolution hard wired solution.

I've never written any reviews here on Amazon but after using this system, I felt the need to do so. Like any system, nothings perfect and everyone has ideas to make things better. Out of the box, the camera's are not the best, the software is unusable, and the lcd displays resolution is low. The reason I bought this system is because it's cheap and easy to setup. No running wires and drilling holes everywhere. After a few day tinkering around with this system, this is what I ended up with.

USB video capture card that I ordered for 8.99

Video capture recording with motion detection (you can find these free google search)

Dropbox to upload files to cloud

Teamviewer

I now can record all 4 cameras in quad view with motion detection and when the software detects motion, it sends me a email with 4 pictures 1 second apart. I also have the software setup to record 5 seconds prior to motion detection and 20 seconds after motion stops and these are saved in my dropbox which I can watch on my smartphone or pc while at work. If I want to watch live streams, I log on to teamviewer (not the best quality but it works).

This system now works perfect for my needs.

I would like to purchase a good DVR, but know nothing about them. If anyone can help me with that, would appreciate it.

I was looking for a video baby monitor and the uniden system is the best option for the money. I had looked at most video baby monitors and even the pricey ones could not compare to this system.. we keep the monitor in our bedroom and one camera over each crib the other camera over looking where our dogs sleep. We use a separate sound monitor for the babies because the sound is not the best when monitoring multiple cameras. Set up was easy, night vision works great and it was the best thing we ever bought for our babies. We are looking to add a fourth camera but the are a little pricey at 75.99 without shipping.......hope this helps

Geovision GV-1480A 16 Channel PC DVR Video Capture Card, 480 FPS, Plus Free GeoVision Cube IP Camer

Geovision GV-1480A 16 Channel PC DVR Video Capture Card, 480 FPS, Plus Free GeoVision Cube IP Camera GV-CB220I use the GV-1480A card in each of our 31 Super Supplements store locations with great success. Out of all the systems have built, I think we only received 1 card with a faulty port, which we did a replacement of from the manufacturer. The systems have a pretty easy learning curve as our Retail Admins can train store managers pretty quickly on navigating video playback, as well as live view through the Web hosted Application. We have never had any of these cards fail.

Why only 4 stars?

1. Support is challenging. They have an online chat which is helpful but the RMA process took me months to get the card replaced that came with a defective port.

2. English Translation. Geovision is based out of Taiwan with headquarters in most major countries. There have been many instances where the software has very broken English. For example, on their text sender, after I submit a change I am granted with a dialog box displaying "Please Waiting..."

3. Previous software releases were bad. If you have legacy software around, make sure to get upgraded to Geovision 8.4 or above. When Surveillance was moved from the Facilities department to the IT Department (Me) I almost switched out all or Geovision equipment for another brand as the old software was difficult to work with.

Even though these are pretty big Con's, I still give it 4 stars compared to Geovision's competitors.

This card would deserve 5 stars out of 5 if it had not been for one major flaw:

The card requires a connection to an IDE power cable to work. Connecting in the power cable wouldn't be a hassle if it wasn't for the delicate soldering job done on the connector. I bought two of these cards, one installed fine, the other had the connector snap off. I would have had to return the product and exchange it if I hadn't soldered on back the connector much better myself. The card works just fine with the software included now.

I installed the GV-1480A in a Dell XPS 8300 and hooked up a couple of analog cameras and the IP camera that came bundled with the DVR board.

Setup was relatively easy although the 600+ page user manual is only provided in electronic form. The manual, for all it's volume is lacking in some detail on various settings.

The system is recording as expected and time will tell how much recording time I will get on the hard drives (1.3TB system drive and 2TB data drive).

Toshiba SDP74S 7-Inch Portable White DVD Player (White)

Toshiba SDP74S 7-Inch Portable White DVD Player
  • SD Card Slot
  • Dual Headphone Jacks
  • Car Cord Included
  • WMA Playback
  • MP3 Playback

This Toshiba SDP74S 7-Inch DVD Player is very well-made and produces clear video and sound. It also comes with an assortment of accessories that you don't expect. There are a full-function remote control, a 12-volt power adapter for use inside a car, plus a RCA plug (red for right channel audio, white for left channel audio, and yellow for video) type cable that lets you connect this player to an external monitor/TV, so you can watch video on the big screen. Of course, the player has an AC adapter/Battery charger. In keeping with the times, this player also has a SD/HC memory card slot, so that it can play files on SD cards directly, in addition to playing optical media. The power switch, headphone jacks for TWO headphones, SD/HC slot, AV Out, and DC In are all located on the right side of the lower half of the player. This player can be powered by its internal battery, which will last about three hours per full charge, or it can be run on AC power. The only time I will use its built-in battery would be when I am in an airplane. Still, it's nice to know that you can use it for a few hours without any external power.

One reviewer has noted that the DVD lens is exposed when the player cover is open; this is the case with any optical media player. You should not touch it with your finger or anything else. Another reviewer complained about the volume up and down controls that don't seem to work reliably. I found that instead of clicking the up or down buttons, you should hold down the up or down button UNTIL you see a pop up volume level indicator on the screen, then you can adjust up and down precisely without any problem.

After you put a DVD in the player (make sure the DVD is seated properly by pushing it onto the player spindle until you hear clicks) and close the lid, it will make some mechanical sound as the reading head moves to play the DVD automatically. There is no need to be alarmed of the noises.

This player will play DVDs in either wide-screen (16:9) or full-screen (4:3) format. Most recent movie DVDs can play in wide-screen mode, which means the displayed image is wide and thin (no black bands on the left and right sides), and you may have the option to play either, depending on the DVD (Example: Rush Hour 3). Older movie DVD's can only play in full-screen mode (Example: Annie Hall). On wide-screen movies, some fill the entire LCD display area, while others have a thin horizontal black band near the top and bottom of the screen. This has nothing to do with the player; it depends on how the DVD was formatted when it was made.

The LCD screen has a matte finish so that there is no reflection problem when you are using the player in a well-lit room. And the screen can be rotated all the way back so it's at an 180 degrees angle in relation to the other half of the player. This means you can hang the player on a vertical surface, although there are no mounting holes on the back of the player.

Toshiba does not provide a carrying case, so I use Case Logic's $15 VNA210 to carry this player and all accessories. It is very light and comes with many pockets and a shoulder strap.

Overall, I deem this an excellent DVD player that has everything you need to play it anywhere (you can take the player to any country; the AC adapter can accommodate 100 to 240 volts (you still need plug adapters for different countries), but it can only play Region 1 (USA and Canada) and Region All DVD's. This is true for all players sold in the U.S. and Canada).

We purchased this DVD player for our 2.5yr old. The screen is small but adequate for his usage. It's a good product for the price and my only discontent with the item is the volume control. The volume buttons are tempermental (don't consistently work when pressed) which makes it difficult for my little guy to use (and for me to quickly lower if needed :).

I'm very pleases with this DVD player. It has nice features like two headset ports, a car power cord, a full function remote. You can adjust the screen every way you would want, 4x3, 16x9, brightness, color, etc. This player will play most all formats. All in all a great little player.

Panasonic Pro AG-HVX200A 3CCD P2/DVCPRO 1080i High Definition Camcorder with 13x Optical Zoom

Panasonic Pro AG-HVX200A 3CCD P2/DVCPRO 1080i High Definition Camcorder with 13x Optical ZoomWe used this camera to shoot our short film and it proved to be awesome. The P2 cards were a little tricky to work with, but certainly less difficult and more portable than film; without the added expense of telecine.

For the cost, we could not have gotten this level of quality otherwise. I believe its got the depth of 16mm, plus it shoots in 24p. When we saw our final projection, we were just amazed.

Great cam for the money.

I have no idea whay they are still selling this camera for $5400.00. I have used this camera many times since 2008. Every time I am forced to use it on a shoot I just keep thinking how much better cameras have gotten. The P2 media is way too expensive. Cameras now take SD cards which are 40.00 instead of 350.00. The picture quality is pretty good but not 5400.00 good. The HMC150 is so much better in many ways. I understand people want to be able to have 2 P2 cards in their camera at once. For one thing most people need to because they can only afford two 16 gig cards, meanwhile with cameras that take SD cards you can put a 32 gig card in there for $60.00! It's heavy due to it's SD shooting option. Who shoots SD these days? I haven't touched a mini DV tape in years. Bottom line, there are way too may better cheaper options out there these days.

Buy Panasonic Pro AG-HVX200A 3CCD P2/DVCPRO 1080i High Definition Camcorder with 13x Optical Zoom Now

I am now a proud owner of the Panasonic HVX200A. This camera has treated me very well since I've received it, although, there are some really important things to consider when making this purchase. This camera comes with many great features and great picture quality with a quick and easy workflow. The camera is somewhat heavy compared to others in it's size class, but it's the best quality for the price in my opinion. (next to the Sony EX1, which I have not put my hands on yet)

One thing I didn't consider when purchasing this camera was the cost of getting it up and running. This camera comes with a great (big) price, too. P2 cards have come down in cost since the E-Series card came out, but thinking a little further into it is a must. In order to be in a run-and-gun situation there are a few more items needed. You'll need a place to store all your footage, and with the P2 card they haven't made it easy. There are 2 products that I would trust, although, Panasonic's P2 Store is the lesser of the two. Nexto DI has a product that I purchased to go with my camera so I can shoot events and not have to worry about running out of space or time. $2000 Nexto=500GB, $1500 P2 Store=60GB. You decide which is better.

With my Nexto DI storage I wish I had purchased the 32GB P2 card to go with my 16GB card because of how fast it unloads. My ave. with a full 16GB card was 5 mins.

Really consider the cost when considering this camera. It might save you some time and money.

I would recommend this camera to a friend.

The HVX remains among the best choices for prosumer HD camcorders. Previous reviewer was right to advise buyers to consider the cost. Realizing the full potential of the HVX will require at least another $2k worth of purchases, depending on what you intend to do with it. Plan to buy at least a couple P2 cards or a Firestore, an 82mm UV filter, the HVX book by Barry Green, a solid tripod, and a good case before getting started. The quality is excellent for the price, but it is overkill for most consumers.

Smaller components, such as the headphone jack, IEEE1394 jack, etc will fail on you and repairs will cost you hundreds of dollars. I purchased one of these cameras in august of 2009 only to have both the headphone jack and IEEE 1394 port fail only days out of the one-year warranty expiration period.

Do NOT buy this camera because for what your paying (an extremely expensive $3,000+ price tag) you would expect a much more quality product. **These various ports and jacks failing are a known issue with these cameras. See the panasonic forums and other websites**

Sony DVPSR510H DVD Player (Upscaling)

Sony DVPSR510H DVD Player
  • Ultra Slim, New Mid Size Design, HDMI Output, 1080P Upscaling, JPEG, MP3 Playback, Multi Disc resume, Multi-band TV Remote, Energy Star
  • 1-Year Parts & 90-Day Labor Warranty
  • Region:DVD: 1
  • Video: DVD, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW. Audio: CD, CD-R, CD-RW,File Formats Supported: JPEG, MPEG1

(#1 REVIEWER)I purchased this DVD to play movies on DVDs attached to a high definition SONY TV via HDMI cable. I was looking for basic functionality that works well at a good price, and this is exactly what I got in this unit.

I am attaching a collage of three photos under customer photos that I will be referencing in this review.

Photo #1 shows everything that came in the package: the DVD player, instructions, 3-RCA component video coax cable, remote and batteries. NOTE: HDMI cable is NOT included.

I placed the unit next to the rulers so you can see the dimensions of the unit: 10.5 inches long x 8 inches wide x 1.5 inch high. The power cord is 58 inches long.

The top of the DVD player is flat, so I was able to stack other things on top of it. The unit has no display, other than a green light next to the power button which tells you when the unit is on.

Photo #2 shows the DVD on a digital scale. It is very light weighing in at 2 pound and 1.4 oz

Photo #3 shows the back panel and the HDMI cable (not included). HDMI (High definition Multimedia Interface) delivers audio and high def video over the same cable. When you use HDMI cable you don't need to use the RCA cables that came with the DVD. I am showing the shape of the HDMI connector in case someone will find it helpful as it needs to be purchased separately. Amazon sells them at a really good price DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M 6 feet.

UP-SCALING

-----------

This unit provides good up-scaling. Up-scaling is the ability to play standard definition DVDs on a high definition TV. Standard definition TV set and regular DVDs have a maximum resolution of 720x576. The high definition sets have higher resolution. If you play a standard definition DVD on a high resolution TV the video without up-scaling feature the video will look pixelated. Up-scaling adds pixels to the video to smooth out the pixelated images. The final image is not as good as tru Blu-Ray DVD, but I find it completely acceptable. I am watching the movies on LCD TV. Up-scaling works best on LCD and Plasma TVs, and not as well on CRT-based high definition TVs.

The default HDMI output from HDMI OUT output is set to 1920x1080p. This can be changed if needed, and is controlled by the TV/projector settings.

SUBTITLES and FAST/SLOW SPEED CONTROLS (Section added based on an interesting comment question)

--------------------------------------------

The DVD player supports 5 speeds: 0.6x, 0.8x, 1x (normal), 1.2x, and 1.4x. The speed is changed by repeatedly clicking on the fast/slow speed button on the remote. There are two ways to turn on subtitles: at the start of the DVD and at any time via remote. The sound is very good at each speed, however the subtitles are only shown at normal speed. When I tried forcing them on at another speed via remote control the player generates a message "operation not possible". As soon as I return to 1x speed the subtitles are shown again.

DVD player supports the following file formats:

-----------------------------------------------

1. Video: MPEG-1

2. Photo: JPEG

3. Music: MP3

Supported extensions:

--------------------

.mpg, .mpeg, .jpg, .mp3, .wma, .m4a, .wav,

Supported disks:

-------------------

DVD, DVD+-RW/+-R/+-R DL, Music CD/Super VCD, CD-R/-RW

RESTRICTIONS:

--------------

Files with copyright protection (digital Rights Management) cannot be played

Lossless files cannot be played

The player cannot play images in DVD-VR mode with CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media)

The player is designed to play disks with Compact Disk (CD) standard. DualDisks and music disks encoded with copyright protection do not conform to CD standard and may not be compatible with this unit.

WARNINGS from the manual:

-------------------------

1. To play a complex hierarchy of folders may take some time. Create albums with no more than two hierarchies.

2. The player will recognize a maximum of 200 albums and 600 files

It can recognize 300 photo and 300 music files if Photo(Music) is selected

3. The player cannot play a video file of size more than (720 width x 576 height)/2 GB

The remote is compatible with the following TVs:

------------------------------------------------

Sony (default)

Hitachi

LG/Goldstar/NEC

MGA/Mitsibishi

Panasonic

Philips

Pioneer

RCA

Samsung

Sharp

Toshiba

INSTALLATION:

---------------

1. Plug in HDMI cable

2. If you are using HDMI cable ignore RCA cables enclosed in the box

3. Plug in DVD into power and attach HDMI cable to the TV

4. Now you need to configure your TV to recognize the new HDMI component

For my SONY TV there were three steps

4a. Under components menu Label Video inputs

This option tells TV which HDMI input to use and which one to skip. My TV has four HDMI connections, one already used and three were available. I was not sure which one I used for DVD so I enabled them all in this step

4b. I went to the list of all inputs where I saw all 4 HDMI connections I tried each one. Two of them generated an error that there was no input, one was my old connection (DVR) and one was the new DVD. This told me which inputs I should disable.

4c. I went back into "label video inputs" and set the label to "skip" for the two HDMI connections that told me "no input"

Overall, DVD player works well. The tray operations smoothly, the quality of the display is good, the remote works well. The only thing I don't like that the DVD turns off itself in 30 minutes if I put it on pause. I would have liked the ability to control this manually, or alternatively have the automatic power off be 2 hours. The unit does not shut off if it is being used. The auto shut off happens if the unit is in pause or stopped.

This DVD player has excellent up-scaling quality. The color quality is superior to the Philips dvp-3560/F7 it replaced. It almost looks like blu-ray quality. It plays dual layer discs without a hiccup. I used the digital out for sound and it is superior to the Philips as well. If are used to a display on your DVD player like I am there is none, but you can display the time with a touch of a button. It is a really small DVD player, but like I said in my review title "Excellent Quality". You will be very happy with this purchase.

Just got this dvd player and I must say im really impressed with the upscaling great quality. its easy enough to set up I used hdmi with this as its hdmi capable.

So far I will do this under pros and cons.

PROS

1.)Great upscaling picture quality.

2.)Easy set up

3.)Hdmi capable (less wires yay)

CONS

1.)Does not display dvd time on front of dvd player (but you can go into menus for this)

2.)The dvd tray is very flimsy. so if you watch alot of dvds im not sure the lifetime on this.

3.)This is typical but remote only links to certain tv brands (most of them) mine was not on list (Insignia)

4.) The power cord is short about 3 and half foot. (so if you have a media center you need the power outlet almost right behind it)

Would I buy this again for 44 bucks? Time will tell but at the moment Yes. Im not too concerned about the negatives of this player but if your looking for a more sturdy upgraded dvd player this is not for you. but if you want a cheap dvd player with great quality this is it.

My $59 Phillips DVD Player died with the second capacitor failure (lasted 6 years) so I went to look at a new DVD player. When this Sony DVD Player finally got here on Friday, I hooked it up, checked it via putting in several DVD sand found the Widescreen was stretched. Since Sony has a picture menu, I was too new to even understand what went where. So I called Sony and slowly we found our way to a software bug. If you are on a Standard TV, Especially any Sony WEGA TV, the software will allow you to reset from 16/9 to 4/3 letterbox, but the image on the TV never changes. So we reset and tried again. It looks like the software won't reflect the change or a better way to say this, the screen is frozen in the stretched format until I chose Enhanced 16/9 and turned it on an off. Then the 4/3 letterbox applied. Most buyers will have an HD TV so you will not walk into this problem.

One more point. If you have hooked your TV to your Stereo and your Standard TV turns on, but the sound is low, turn the Speakers on or off (then off if you use your stereo), then change Audio Out from Variable to Fixed.

All of this took 2 days to figure out. Sony has an article on this audio problem, but does not reflect this above solution.

So what do I think of the DVD Player? It looks great, very small. No LED to show time/chapter or even loading. All the controls are via the remote and on the TV. Use the Time/Text button to see all time and chapters. When I buy an HD TV, then the upscale 1080p will be a real plus. And it is $10 cheap than the Phillips DVD I bought before. So I think this a great buy at the price, Just be aware that if you hook it up to a standard TV, you may need the solutions listed above.

The design of the SONY DVD player is really nice. It is a wee bit slow in response but over all plays movies well. It's actually kind of neat. If you stop one movie and throw another in, you can put the first movie back in and it will pick up where you left off. Very interesting feature. Great DVD player for the money.

2nd generation Degen DE1125 Ultra-Thin AM/FM/SW Radio with 4GB MP3 Player/Digital Recorder

2nd generation Degen DE1125 Ultra-Thin AM/FM/SW Radio with 4GB MP3 Player/Digital RecorderNovember 3, 2009:

Stay tuned as I will update this review shortly with more technical details to follow. I took a chance and ordered this Degen DE1125 from overseas ($78.99 shipped by registered airmail) despite some poor reviews that I have seen recently, but my unit is just fine and once again the overall quality control of electronics production in Chinese radio factories looms its ugly head! My unit is the Degen brand and not the Kaito version so it has sw capability instead of the USA weather band channels. It is excellent on the fm and good on sw bands despite relatively low sensitivity ratings compared to several other Kaito and Degen radios. To boot the unit is very well made and extremely small and pocketable and just what I was looking for by the way. I like it much better than the Sangean DT-200V and DT-400W units and it can even pick up routine weather broadcasts on my local am government sponsored emergency preparedness station. It does need a tone control that is certainly sorely lacking, but other than that I have no great complaints at this point, except perhaps for a more precise frequency control in smaller increment steps (see further below). The AGC (automatic gain control) does oscillate so that the signal strength fluctuates quite a bit for weak am stations as noted by other internet reviewers, but the stronger sw stations come in just fine as do all fm stations that I have listened to. I am very pleased overall with this radio/MP3 player, especially at this asking price!

UPDATE: November 18, 2009:

PROS:

1) Very fine quality MP3 player (comes with two songs, one by the late and great Karen Carpenter (Its yesterday once more) and another classic, the Hotel California). Both are excellent for demonstrating the MP3 capabilities available on this system.

2) Good quality voice recorder/microphone system with ability to record directly off the air (better at lower speaker volume).

3) Tuning is through either the very fine tuning knob or using the Auto+/Autokeys on the keyboard so it is a much improved system (compared to the Kaito KA1123 or the Degen DE15 units).

4) There is excellent sensitivity for fm with very good selectivity

5) Fair to good sw sensitivity and good selectivity

6) Fair am sensitivity and good selectivity

7) High quality MP3 player with 2 GB of onboard mempry available.

8) Good quality ATS (Automatic tuning storage) preset capability on all bands with 255 presets available (adjusted using the Auto +/keys). These presets are easy to play back too using easy to locate keys (can be used to either advance or backtrack frequencies) on the right hand side of the unit.

9) There is a very detailed and highly readable, quality LCD screen with a (green) high quality backlight.

10) The LCD screen details are different for the "off" position versus each of the three modes of operation (as listed under 1) below under Cons). The clock can be displayed in all possible screen displays and so it is very easy to set accurately.

11) There is a very nice on-screen digital signal strength meter that is displayed whenever the digital volume levels are adjusted.

12) It has a very long lasting and very flat rectangular battery (Lithium-Ion: Nokia cell phone type). The battery is charged using a USB to unit cable (provided) that goes directly to a PC (with automatic charging capability). The same USB cable is also used for quickly downloading songs from a PC.

13) It is a very small and pocketable, very nice looking unit with a high quality build (with a black rubbery surface with a nice feel). It has a nice support stand that opens up from the back and exposes more of the speaker to the air as well (see below).

14) The unit also has an extendable (nonrotating) vertical antenna about 15 inches in length that is good for fm and sw signal detection.

15) There is also a lock slide switch to keep all controls fixed when needed.

16) It also has a very good sounding speaker.

17) The printed manual is in both Chinese as well as in English and is not very hard to understand.

CONS:

1) There is no tone control for any of the three basic modes (am/fm/sw radio, MP3 player and voice and off the air recorder).

2) The tuning capability is fixed and does not have adjustable frequency step controls.

3) The radio senitivity is best only for listening to major stations, except for the fm operating mode and to a lesser extent sw. I think the Kaito version with all USA weatherband channels may prove to be a better buy overall if the sensitivity for these is adequate. There is some hiss to be heard in the background on am and on the voice recorder.

4) It has a lone bandwidth and no DX/local attenuator, but can register fm stereo through the earphones. It does not have an external antenna jack either.

UPDATE: November 19, 2009:

Apparently the weatherband reception option instead of sw reception (2.3 ~23 MHz) has been dropped by Kaito (Degen) since it no longer appears listed on the Amazon website (it was listed there until very recently however!). Even today on their own website it is still listed as the Kaito KA800 with am/fm and weatherband reception capabilities and an orange backlight!

Like another reviewer (Ann) I bought this little radio by mail order inspite of other negative reviews elsewhere on the internet. I got mine from a seller in Vancouver, Canada. Overall I am very pleased with this radio. I think the fit and finish is very nice and FM reception is excellent even with the aerial antenna fully down. AM reception is also quite good and at night I easily receive stations for Los Angeles and the SF bay area. On SW the performance matches my older Panasonic RF-2900 which is just fine. Certainly a real SW enthusiast won't use this as their only radio, but the portability and versatility of this little radio is really pleasing. I love the size, features and the USB charging method. I've loaded lots of MP3 songs into the 2GB of FLASH (it appears as standard "disk drive" on your PC) and it charged while I did that! The English owners manual is adequate and the radio is easy to operate. I haven't used the headphones since I already had a decent set. The MP3's sound fine to me with reasonably rich sound, though it would have been nice to have a tone control or EQ settings to select from. I also like the green LED backlight. The display is easy to read in the dark. Also, I think this model must be preferable to the older DE-1123 because that model doesn't have the jog control which works great! Don't be afraid to buy one of these. You'll be very pleased, especially for the money spent.

Good build quality. I'm technically challenged, so after a few evenings of learning MP3 download basics, I'm happy with this versatile product. 24+ hours of music, downloaded so far. Sound quality is decent. Tons of great features in a tiny package. I ordered mine from Hong Kong...mine takes 3AAA batteries (rechargables that arrived with the unit, seem faulty, so I switched to standard alkaline for now). Packaging was for 1123 model with 2GB of storage. My only dislike so far, is that the MP3 controls are a bit "delayed". Radio reception on FM is excellent, AM fair, and SW good. You'll want to upgrade the headset.

Not quite perfect, but definitely recommended. I don't think there's another product that offers all these features, in a quality pocket sized product, on the market.

I have been using the product for about a week.

There is no auto-record functionality, which is a bit disappointing to me. I was hoping to be able to set it to record certain AM shows everyday of the work week. But I have to make sure to turn it on every morning before I leave for work. I do that so that I can ensure it records while being able to leave it at home and not have to carry it around with me (potentially getting it stolen or lost). I am a teacher, so I cant just leave it lying around on my desk, and some of the schools I am in get very poor AM reception. So, all in all, I find it best to leave it at home and have it record a certain station all day. Of course, it pretty much saps the battery and records a bunch of stuff I dont want, but I still get what I want eventually (and I have gotten in the habit of recharging it everyday).

It would be much nicer to have the auto record ability, much like my DVRs. That took it from a sure-fire 4 star to a 3 star product, imo. If it would have that functionality, and it was easy to use, and reliable, maybe even a 5 star product.

Other than that, nice product. I like that it has a "lock" button, good speaker (for listening w/o headphones), it's designed so you have to "double-check" before deleting a file, and you can adjust the auto-tuning so that you can most likely pick up all stations (see manual for how to do that).

I enjoy this radio/player very much. It has great reception and gets stations my larger radios can't. I had some questions and the people at Kaito Sales were very helpful. I am in Florida and so being in Eastern time, I was still able to speak with them after 6PM when I got home from work, since they are in California on Pacific time. Lee was extremely helpful.

I look forward to seeing any new products they may offer in the future.

Memorex 40x Music CD-R Media - 50 Pack Spindle

Memorex 40x Music CD-R Media - 50 Pack SpindleFour months ago, I used this product and had no problems except the finished CDs did not play in one person's car player. With this stack every one of the first 15 CDs I made did not play in most equipment, although they played in the recorder where I copied them. It was very disconcerting to put them in other players and get nothing, or get something only after forwarding to the 3rd track. Didn't understand why this was happening. But I'll not buy them again. It was a waste of many hours since I was assuming they worked.

I wanted to try this Memorex CD-R, 80 Minute in the 10-pk box before committing to a 50-Pk spindle. I've had nothing but good luck with these CD-R's. (Not a coaster in the bunch!!)

If you aren't sure about getting that 50-pk spindle, go on and order the 10-Pack. Give them a try and (if you are as satisfied as I am with their performance) order that 50-pk spindle..you won't be disappointed!!

these cds burn fine BUT they won't play in most cd players. I've tried it in two car aftermarket cd players, brand new mazda, and a brand new F1500 they all did not read the cd. Most computers can read them, but other than that they are not very usable.

Avoid a headache. I had the same problems with these new Memorex music CD-Rs. They will not work in my Philips CD audio deck, and as you can see in other reviews they don't work on most decks. I suspect they are plain digital CD-r's, or that the newer 40x discs will not work on Digital Audio decks. A design flaw at any rate. I have had great luck with older Memorex Music CD-Rs, but I believe they were 32x. I have no problem with Sony Music CD-rs which are easily available, and cheaper most places. However, Memorex is good with warranty service in my complaints about these.

Great for dummies who pay extra for music CD-Rs for their computer because they are copying their friends CDs!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had this problem. My home recorder is a Pioneer, and until I bought these Memorex discs, I never had a problem recording. I bought one pack at Wal Mart or Target or something, and when I put in a disc to start recording, it wouldn't read it. I tried 3 more discs, and they all were unreadable. I returned them, and tried again at an online store (maybe I got a bad batch?). Same problem. So I always buy another brand of CD-R Music discs. These are pretty useless.

VideoSecu Day Night Vision Video Audio CCTV IR Security Camera Built-in 1/3'' Sony CCD Outdoor Weat

VideoSecu Day Night Vision Video Audio CCTV IR Security Camera Built-in 1/3'' Sony CCD Outdoor Weatherproof 420TVL 20 Infrared LEDs 3.6mm Wide View Angle Lens Built-in Microphone with Extension Cable and Power Supply 3A6For the money you cant beat this price. I bought two of these to to update my dvr system. I have one up now and will have the other one up soon. I wish the audio was built into the camera but it isnt. it comes with a microphone. So if you are going to install with the microphone you will want to put a junction box up for all the connections. Remember the camera is weather proof but the connections are not. The video is this camera. I have this hooked to a Night Owl FS84500.

It is only a good product. I have two issues with this camera. For one thing, at night without a flood light, I can't see much detail of what is going on. The flood light helps. This suggests that I would need more IR lights. For another thing, during the day if I zoom in on something the resolution is very poor. I can't make out a face. This suggests that I need more than 420 TVL to see people's faces. I use this to watch my back yard where several cars are parked. Sometimes an intruder has smashed windows and vandalized the cars. So if I got another camera, I would opt for higher resolution and more IR lights in case the flood lights burned out.

I uploaded a video of what my back yard looks like without lights but with the infra red lights. The resolution is what is to be expected with 420 TVL but flood lights are needed to see more clearly. 30 IR lights are not enough to light my backyard. I did not bother with the audio.
