It's a great little camera. You can't beat it for the price. It comes with all the hardware and software you will need to connect to a computer for downloading and editing videos and photos. Batteries for this camera has been hard to find. Amazon claimed to have them, but when I went to order them, they had been lined out. Also, make sure you get a memory card when you buy the camera. The internal memory isn't very large.

I received this product in a timely manner. I found it very easy to set up and was able to use it right away. The buttons are a little difficult to see as I am older but once I got the hang of it we took some great videos. I would recommend this product.

Bought this camcorder as an alternative to the Flip because it was recommended by a friend who thought it was an excellent product. It has lived up to expectations and to the product description. It takes good single snapshots and the video quality is good. It is easy to use but the user's manual can be more comprehensive. I am in Guyana now and have take pictures of the rainforest as well as the Kaiteur Falls and have played them back. Did not have the time to download and instal the codec for sound so I have not been able to hear sound on playback on computer but hear it on recorder which is what had been indicated on manual.

There are still many features which I have not had a chance to explore but the main purpose for which I bought the camcorder has been fulfilled and will buy another for my wife.

This my second Jazz camcorder. my first was a mod. HDV178. It is rigid, compact, and quick to use. This one is the Jazz HDV188. Wow! Nice. I bought it for my grandson who is on forward ops stationed in Afghanistan, 101 Army air born.

I bought him a cheap little Jazz model last year just before his deployment. Unreal... through patrols, combat, desert, sand, heat & icy nites the darned thing held up for near a year before he fell on it and broke a switch!!! This time I got him a nice model (newer than mine but the same HD v series).

He writes us that he and his company buddies have gotten more enjoyment and fun out of that little video/photo camcorder than all the other pass-time gifts and distractions that they've received.

Do not fall for the 5-star ratings on this thing. I relied on them (the ratings) and I admit I did not closely read the "Product Description" before I made my purchase, but come on! My expectations were not that high considering the price, but this thing is pure junk. The video is fine as long as the cameras and receiver are right next to each other. Any more than a few feet apart (as in three feet), even indoors, the video is so bad that it's useless. Signal interference?? I have no nearby neighbors, and turning off every other wireless device in my home made no difference. Claims of "interference" is their cover for an inferior product. As they say in their own description: "If you need a clear and stable image, do not purchase the wireless video camera". I agree. If you want to completely waste your money on a useless unusable product, by all means buy this one. I give it -5 stars. I wish I had heeded oldcoot's review...

Pretty slick little cameras, about the size of a Medium Tangerine in diameter. By rights there should be 4 units in the box there's room for 2 more on the CCTV-DVR system, and that's my next goal is to purchase 2 more of the cameras only, I took them outside and set them up with power and went back inside and checked them out after dark "they're just fine in the day time" BUT, the IR system is lacking plenty, however, what do you expect for under $100.00, YA'GET WHAT YA PAY FOR, and I've seen systems twice the price with less resolution at night. These go for about 65' then it fades pretty fast, REMEMBER a 9Volt battery will only run one of these for about 15 minutes "at best" so you need the external DC power that's included, ALL IN ALL I'm very happy with what I've got, they'll work just fine for my purposes. I'd recommend them to those who want a inexpensive CCTV-DVR system.

When I received this unit, one camera out of the box did not work. After several emails to the company I just gave up trying to get a replacement or RMA. At one point they even told me to connect it direct to the tv and let them know the result. How exactly do you connect a WIRELESS camera to a tv without the receiver? You can't. These cameras will completely disrupt any WiFi receiver, and are easily disrupted by bluetooth, and cellphones. These units are crap, save your money and by the good ones, or better yet get a wired system. You will be much happier in the long run.

I don't know what the neg reviews are for; these are great cameras. I've got them hooked up outside and I have the receiver inside located in the back bedroom for night watching. Both cameras are picking up quite well and the night vision is spectacular. Now I can rest at night knowing all I have to do is wake up and check on my vehicle and front porch. I intend to get two more cameras for the unit... excellent.

I have been waiting for this unit since the CES show. Pansonic released some incredible Blu Ray players this year and this unit so far has exceeded my expectations. First off Amazon has the lowest price on this unit so far, yes it's sold by Beach Audio but going through Amazon makes it easier for a few dollars more. I wanted a smaller unit that was packed with features and this is it.

When I first saw it for sale I didn't hesitate to get it. I was hoping that Panasonic wouldn't delay the sale of the unit in the U.S. any longer. I believe it's almost 2 months overdue. Upon its arrival, unboxing was fast, I couldn't wait to peel back the packaging and let this unit breath....... Having this for only 4 hours I have been able to watch a movie and set up the unit the way I want it. Ah yes the remote, we have heard horror stories about there touch pad remote. This baby is cool, once you get use to the pad all the controls are on the screen. You can't get easier then that. I downloaded the Pansonic iPhone and iPad app and both work perfect with the unit. Follow the directions and it was up and running in seconds. I wanted to be the first to review this unit and to let potential buyers know its worth the investment. Yes it's small but it's capabilities are packed solid. I have not used everything as of yet but I will be updating this very quickly. Stay tuned!

IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT: The dimensions listed on here are incorrect!! It is 7" X 7" X 1" with nothing plugged in. You determine what type of HDMI cable you will use, and that will assist you in how much room is needed behind it.......They do provide an HDMI cable with it if you need one....

Update: This unit is working perfect, I am connected via ethernet through a switch with the rest of my entertainment system. I have downloaded both Panasonic apps for this player for the iPhone and iPad. Both work flawlessly, make sure when checking the app store for them you pick the correct one, it will list this specific player in the directions. Also make sure in the settings of this unit, you turn ON the remote device settings so it can be found. I streamed video via Youtube and a movie from Netflix flawlessly. I will add that the streaming capability of this unit is awesome..... The supplied remote is super easy to use, the pad is on screen and easy to navigate. Since my iPhone is synced with my entire home entertainment center, I found using this is even easier. I also used a 16 gig thumb drive full of music and tested the USB port on the unit. It recognized my audio folder and played from it with no issues. Since I currently don't have 3D I can't provide any info about that as of yet. I am setting up my network drive system on it to access my computer. I will update additional info about this unit.. Stay tuned!!!

Update: Networking is simple, make sure its part of your home network and allow the necessary permissions. DVD's boot super fast, Blu Rays take about 18 seconds to load. You will notice that when you put a DVD in a small door will close after its inserted. When you eject the disk the door will remain in the open position. This is normal as the electronics are protected. So far this unit has been awesome. Panasonic needs to update the iPhone and iPad app allowing the user to utilize a full keyboard when searching online. After much time spent with this unit, I found that you still have to enter your searchs with one touch letter select and not a full keyboard. Come on Panasonic, update the app for this capability.... I will continue small updates as I come across features or any issues to help out others....

Update: 6 month review.... I have found this unit to still be working just as awesome as the day I bought it. I have read numerous reviews regarding the supplied remote. I will say I don't even use that remote at all. I have found the iPhone app works so much better so there is no need to use to use it. As for android users I am sure the app is the same. I did have a few issue with bluray disks not wanting to play but it appeared to be the disk and not the player.

The REMOTE! This review must focus on the terrible remote. It is like the finger mouse pad on a laptop. When a disc is playing you must tap to bring up the onscreen pad. THEN, try and find your desired function (without accidentally selecting a non desired function by mistake). Once you find the function in the onscreen function pad, you tap to select it. Way too awkward. Takes way too long. Way too confusing. The touch pad is very sensitive, so its easy to make the wrong selection. WHY Panasonic... WHY???? I'd fire that remote design department head ASAP. What were these people thinking? Is it really necessary to reinvent something so simple like a remote control?

Other than the remote, the player functions as it should, a 3D BR player. Wifi connected first time. Did an firmware update upon connection. I did not buy this from Amazon and "almost" went with the similar sized cubed 3D player by Samsung. I will probably return this Panasonic for the Samsung only because this remote IS AWFUL !!!!!

PS. Should add there IS NO eject on the remote. Hopefully for those that keep this player, a future firmware update may be able to add remote eject?

I would think that possible, since the functions are "on screen" and not buttons on the remote. They could add eject to the on-screen selections.

And the cube player comes with a snap-on stand which allows different placement options. Flat, on its side, tilted with the front raised (best in my opinion).

**UPDATE 9/25/12**

I waited to return the Panasonic, while in the mean time trying the samsung mini cube 3D unit. Well... the samsung was total junk. So the samsung went back, and I kept this panasonic. Getting a bit more use to the remote. Still would prefer buttons on the remote and not on-screen buttons/selections. Internet apps can be customized and turned on-off for those apps not personally needed. Apps can be re-arranged to as to preference for usage. All in all, for a small cube, this is probably the most desired mini 3D BR player internet connected device around. This panasonic 3D player is much smaller than the samsung cube. And the panasonic works 1000 times better than the samsung cube. I just ordered a second panasonic of the same model for another 3D TV downstairs. Will have to learn to live with the remote, looks like.

This will undoughtedly come down in price, but I wanted it when I assembled my home theater system. I bot a Visio 55" 3D/internet/streaming HDTV. Then a Bose "Accustamass 6" surround sound w/an Onkyo 3D, 5.1 reciever. This DVD player is the frosting on the proverbial cake. The only thing it DOESN'T do, is make the popcorn. Blu-Ray, internet, streams, upconverts 2D to 3D, plays every imaginable format, and man it is small. I wasn't ready for how small it actually is ! The only drawback, and this is because I like to watch TV in the dark, is the touch screen remote. My jury is still out on this one. It's a personnal thing, but if you buy this unit, and believe me YOU WANT to buy this player, it's kind of a long learning curve and w/no back lite buttons, it's even harder to reconnoiter. One other trivial thing, it has no eject function on the remote. Gotta get yer lazy a$$ off of the couch, to pop it out of the player. This was so new when I got it, that I went solely on the 1st review, from a guy who had seen it at the CES show, and he was right.. Oh, one other thing, as I'm watching "Mesrine", I put it on pause to write this (I needed a break from the french subtitles) after 30 minutes it shuts down. You have to then hit the "on" button, on the remote to resume watching the movie. They said it is to save the drive motor, I believe. Try it, you'll like it !!

I still luv this player, but I will tell ya, THIS IS BY FAR THE WORSE REMOTE I HAVE EVER USED !!!!!!! Touch screen that works when it feels like it. The only way I can really explain it is, I hope the guy who designed it has worms crawing thru his eys sockets right now!! Bad piece to an other wise fine product.

Update #2: 5/27/13

I found a way to get around the crappy remote. I programmed the Visio (my 55" 3d tv) remote to operate the Panasonic Blu ray player. I've managed to get it to do everything but be a power on/off switch. This is waaaaayyyy better. It is now so much easier to use this wonderful Blu ray player. Try it, if it works for you, you'll be much happier w/the player.

Small, just 7"x7" square. Some have called the design a conversation piece (in the way that all 7"x7" squares are conversation pieces?) but if people notice your small stylish blu-ray player and do 10 minutes conversing about it ("it's so square!") then you can probably use all the strange looking blu-ray players you can get. It's a slot load player with a cheap looking plastic bottom. Since you're paying more for less (size), you get slot loading plus an HDMI cable in the box and the controversial touch pad remote too. Critics have said that Panasonic messed with a good thing by replacing the remote included on their other models (the 220, for instance) with the touch pad remote. Some have opined that Panasonic was jumping on the tablet trend here, and indeed they probably were. In use, the remote isn't that bad. Just stay in the center of the pad with your finger or thumb and you'll be fine. But the remote isn't intuitive. There's a pop up on screen keypad, but no eject button (the thinking here was probably that you have to walk over and remove the disc anyway, but if so, why include it on their button remotes?) You're advised to download the free Panasonic app for your phone, it's better, and generally speaking, you know where your phone is, and finding the remote isn't always as easy. You're paying for size and style here, but beyond that, it's a Panasonic blu-ray player with the same menu's found on their other players, and a few extra features to justify the higher price point.

I was looking for a 3D blu ray player that did everything, but at the same time was very slim to fit nicely under my TV. I'm happy to say that this one fits the bill. The dimensions are 7" by 7" by 1" without the stand which I do not use. The power button and eject button are not really buttons, but rather touch sensitive, which I like. The right side of the player opens up to display an SD card and USB port to view/ watch all of your photos and videos. Of course it can play DVD, blu ray, and 3d blu ray.

The player itself can convert any 2D picture or video into 3D. This includes pictures/ videos from sd card and usb, netflix, vudu, dvds, normal blu rays, and anything else you can think of. To do this you simply go to the options menu while playing any video and switch to "2D to 3D" and it converts for you automatically. Since I already had a smart TV I wasn't sure how much I would use the extra features on the blu ray player itself, but since it can convert the content to 3D it will be used from time to time.

The remote itself isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It has very few buttons and instead has a scroll pad similar to a laptops track pad. It works well and is easy to get used to. I actually like it rather than having a remote with 50 or so buttons.

Overall, this is a great choice if you want a 3D blu ray player, especially if you are looking for a slim one.

I bought one of these along with my neighbor from another site about a year ago. The motion detection is absolutely useless, so if you really want that feature buy another DVR. The remote control isn't intuitive at all so it makes it a little annoying to navigate the menus. If you have less than 4 cameras, you can disable the unused video inputs but when you set it to auto cycle through all the cameras, it still shows the blank blue screen for those inputs. Since this is an entry level CCTV DVR, it doesn't multitask, which means you have to stop recording to playback recordings. Other than those complaints the DVR works fairly well. Once in a while when the power goes out, when the DVR starts up it prompts to recover the HD where it left off, I'm not real sure what that means but it will stay at that prompt forever until you answer the question, which means if it happens while you're on vacation there goes your security system until you get back to say YES. This sounds like a negative review but for the price this isn't too bad of a choice. If you can find a DVR with functional motion detection for around this price, I'd get that one instead.

Despite having to install and format the hard drive, I found this recorder to be easy to operate and set up. The directions could use a little work.

This DVR looks good but what i didn't realize was that it's not designed for recording TV shows; it's made to record from security cameras. That's not the main problem, though.

What it should say in big letters in the product description is that YOU NEED TO PLUG A HARDDRIVE INTO IT BEFORE YOU CAN USE THIS DVR AT ALL!

(The company's website says an IDE harddrive but i didn't see where it said what minimum or maximum size you should or could use.)

I bought this thing and it doesn't even come with a hard drive. Now I am stuck with it becaused I scratched it up a little. I don't know if it was scratched by me or somebody else. I'm not the kind of person to send damaged goods back to the seller. Anyway I've been trying to find out what kind of hard drive that works in this thing for four days now so I can order one. Nobody has gotten back in touch with me. So make sure this is what you want.

Ematic 7 TFT Color eBook Reader - Pink

I have had this E reader for a few days and its awesome! My husband got an i pad, i have an i pod touch so i didnt want to get an I-pad but i wanted a portable dvd player and ebook reader. I searched everywhere for one that did both and this is what i found. I totally took a chance and am glad i did! For the price its amazing! It doesn't play itunes media and certain ebooks wont open for copy writing reasons but i got about 16 nook books to open on it and music i already had on my computer works great! It will open pdf files, i downloaded the bible pdf file from some bible site and it opened perfectly.I put the 16gb micro sd card i had from my phone in it and loaded 18 movies that i had on my computer to it, they play great! The screen resolution is great, (as u can see from the picture i took of a movie playing)All in all so far this thing is awesome!

I purchase this e-book to give to my daughter for her 9th birthday and she loves it. I wanted something for her that she could use that did not give her access to the internet and this was perfect. Since I didn't have my own computer and I had to borrow one to download the music. I purchased a couple of books from Borders Book and took my e-book into the store and they helped me download the books on my e-book. They were very impressed with this particular item. They were like WoW where did you get that from and for how much? I have downloaded a spanish dictionary, thesaurus, and two other books for her. I haven't downloaded videos yet, but she loves the one that comes preloaded about nature. I just haven't figures out how to keep it from cutting off so often. The support person is awesome as well. He walked me step by step through everthing that I needed. It could use a longer battery life, and I wished that the apps were earier to find for kids and listed by age groups. I have a tablet and I have downloaded a game called Math Attack on it. I wish that there was a way that I could put it on her e-book, because she loves that game. It help prepare her for a standardize test and she bought her B up to an A. I even kept the box that it came in a decorated it so that my daughter could keep her keepsakes in it. I am thankful not to having to go out and purchase a cover for it since it comes with its own. Very wise chose to include this in the price. As far as the manual that comes with it, it can be printed from the internet so that you do not have to strain your eyes. What is so great about this e-book, my daughter can use it for her homework with out having to lug around reference books, because they are downloaded on her e-book. She can still listen to her music and watch her favorite videos. This is great since I can not afford to have cable and it is very safe and I don't have to worry about her being expose to things that she is not ready for yet. Thank you so much for keeping the price reasonable for so many features. A blessed customer that was able to afford an outstanding item.

I bought this for myself because I'm always reading and I need background noise ... preferably music. The video was just an added bonus. The reader worked like a dream for the first month or so but then it started taking longer to charge and it wouldn't hold the charge for more than an hour. Finally, it got to the point where I would leave it charging overnight ... except when I unplugged it in the morning the battery would drop to nothing and the reader would tell me it was shutting down because of low power.

Alright, fine, I thought. I had a warranty and it should be a simple matter of contacting Ematic and sending it back to be fixed or traded in for another, right? WRONG! I emailed them like both their website and the warranty asked and got a quick automated reply telling me that they would get back to me within one business day. WRONG AGAIN! A week later and still no reply I sent them another email. Again, I got no reply except the automated response. I attempted to call them, on a business day during working hours, and got a voice messaging system. I left a message and immediately sent another email. NOTHING! It has been almost 2 months since I attempted to make contact and I've still never heard from them. My warranty has since run out and I'm left with a dead reader and my wallet $90 lighter.

The only reason this gets two stars is because while the reader worked it was everything I could have asked for. If Ematic had actually gotten back to me and fixed or replaced my reader it would have gotten 5 stars. Sadly, it seems Ematic runs itself, turning out products with no human help.

Advice: Pay the extra and get something else!

I love my e-reader! I purchased an e-reader because I spend a lot of time on the bus each day going to and from work. I was hesitant to buy this one because the reviews were kind of half negative and half postitive. The videos are crystal clear and the sound is great. I did have a problem viewing pdf files, but I converted my books to epub files and they are perfect. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it does still have a glare unlike some kindle products and was a little difficult to read while poolside. I'd say for the price it's a great buy and I'm very satisfied!! It makes my time on the bus go by a lot quicker!

I bought this ereader for my 13 year old daughter. She has been eyeing my Sony for quite some time now, so I thought it was time for her to have one. After quite a bit of research, I came to the e-matic reader. It has all of the basic features I was looking for and the price was perfect. It is quite large, and a little awkward to handle at times, but my kid likes to read with the thing on the bed while she's laying on her tummy. I put several of the books from my library on it easily, and we are looking now for some of her school textbooks to see how they appear. All-in-all, it seems to be a pretty solid reader.

The only real downside for me, is that the cover it came with is WHITE! White and teenagers just don't mix! Looking for additional accessories....

I was very pleased with this purchase for several reasons. 1. The shipping was speedy! 2. For what you get, the price just cannot be matched elsewhere! 3. The products(dummy cameras) were packaged nicely and looked exactly as advertised!

This is a perfect setup if you are looking to install a dummy monitoring system. The cameras look exactly like a similar real set w/DVR that I saw for about $500.00. The IR style is an added feature as well. They are very easy to install and pretty stable and sturdy once you fix them to the mounting and angles that you want. Additionally, the fact that they dont have blinking lights is a great bonus because if you are going to use a set of four, who wants to keep climbling ladders and changing batteries! Finally, I liked the wires that came with the cameras. They are sticking out the back so all you have to do is place the other end underneath the mounting kit for added realism! Basically, These cameras are actually are shells of the "real" product only they have been disabled from operational use. You will also note that they throw in a bunch of warning stickers as well which cost about $10.00 if purchased on their own!!!

These cameras really look like the real thing. Comes complete with 4 stickers and a sign in English and Spanish. Has no blinking light, but the newer cameras don't have those anyway, and these look new. Perps are not usually very good at telling these from the real thing, and the theory is that they will see them and go on to the next house (A pro could tell, and could get in no matter what you do). The cameras install easily with 3 provided, plated screws and plastic plaster sleeves if used indoors in sheet rock. Camera can be set at any angle. They look and feel real. I'm sure that there are other, more expensive ones that may be better, but these should do their intended purpose: Potential thief sees sign, looks up, sees a camera, leaves.

Didn't come with the stickers very cheap, but I put them up without the LED/battery. Didn't want to have these things flashing all the time and didn't want to have to take them down to change the battery. All in all not bad for a fake camera, but I think you could get a better price then I did for the four. These cameras do look fairly real even close up one thing I didn't like was the appature positioning and the cheap screw that broke off when I tried to move the camera "lens" to a certain position. I'm hope-ing a would-be-theif will move on to the next house due to the deterrent these cameras may provide.

I purchased this from an Amazon warehouse seller named Qiang Zhao for $29.99. I had seen other fake cameras for ~$10/each so I thought 4 fake cameras for $30 was a good deal.

I received the items quickly enough and they were packaged well in individual boxes; no damage.

Issues:

These fake cameras sold by Qiang Zhao are NOT by VideoSecu (a legitimate video security/surveillance company). in fact, if you look up the model # DMY03D4 on , no results are found

2. the cameras i received had two plastic screws holes on the sides that makes them look OBVIOUSLY fake. from the street, a anyone (including a thief) might think these are real, but come any closer it is obvious that they are fake.

I bought this system on March 24, 2010; did not receive it until April 9 due to a "problem" with the receiver and replacement systems were shipped from Homg Kong. Initially, the system was fine, very easy to install the software, although the color was a bit washed out even at close range. Camera 2 failed after 2 weeks having an audio noise issue (loud buzzing & pops) no matter where it was placed. Emailed the seller on 05/10/2010 about the lack of warranty information and phone number for customer service. No response (Chowaka LLC). On 05/20, camera 4 stopped transmitting video either wireless or cable and was very hot to the touch. I assume the circuit board had a power issue or compenant failure; the audio is still functioning.

Do not buy this system; no warranty, no phone numbers, no customer service from Chowaka. We have filed a claim with Amazon and will purchase a different system.

Had problems installing the drivers on 4 different computers, there's next to no tech support. The "Built in DVR" requires a computer to be on 24/7 to record. For the same amount of money you can buy a Q-See DVR with a 320GB hard drive built in.

Do not be fooled by the picture of the unit. There are wires galore and electrical plugs required for every camera. So much for hidden security.

The directions are vague and sparse. I have pretty good computer skills but I can't get anything to work. After hooking it up as directed, the software doesn't load and freezes my computer. The unit is not recognized by my computer. I think I may need a USB video capture card but I'm not sure and after days of searching the Web for answers I am more confused than ever at which one would work if that is the problem.

I would not buy this product.

Logitech 961-000391 Alert 750N Indoor Security Master System and Add-On Camera (Gray)

First of all the SETUP is very easy. The on screen prompts will take you though the steps.

1. Install the software.

2. Plug the master network adapter into the power outlet and plug the Ethernet cable into your router

3. Plug the camera into power outlet and click yes to update firmware (adapters and camera).

NOTE: Do not unplug the camera or the master adapter during the update.

Wow that was easy. It took less than 15 minutes to get the system up and running.

You can even use your neighbors WiFi signal (please ask first) more below.

PICTURE QUALITY

The picture quality is great (but not HD and not what you have come to expect from a digital camera) during daylight hours but not so great at capturing clear pictures of moving objects in total darkness. However in my case I have a flood light with motion detector that comes on when someone enters the area at night making the video bright and clear.

MOTION DETECTION

What I like is that you can draw areas on the actual image from the video camera to trigger recording. In other words you can eliminate false recordings from cars going by or movement outside your property.

You set up each camera individually providing ultimate flexibility in alerts, sensitivity and recording. In addition, once you have created a LogitechAlert account, you can select which cameras triggers an email alert.

EMAIL ALERTS

You set the LogitechAlert account up from the Settings Menu (the gearwheel icon).

From here you can enter several email addresses. I have mine set to send a text to my cell phone (as I don't have a smart phone with email and web access).

Most cell phone providers offers an email address starting with your cell phone number that will be forwarded to you as a text message.

Please look the email address up on your providers web page. I can not put them up due to Amazon posting regulations.

You may get charged for each text by your cell phone provider so make sure to set the Alert Frequency and Motion Filter conservatively (from within the Settings Menu Alerts-Advanced).

As mentioned above, I have not received one false alarm although my system is still set using the default values.

RECORDING WITH PC TURNED OFF THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE.

The camera(s) stores all motion triggered activity regardless if you have the PC on or off. To review all recorded activity, start the PC and click the "Enter Playback Mode" icon. A very intuitive calendar and timeline shows up indicating recordings. Point to a time and click on play to see the activity.

UPDATE:

You can review/playback history from only the dedicated PC on your network.

Logitech suggests not loading the software on more than on PC on the network.

If you do, you can only watch live video but review/playback will not work from the other PC's (also unexpected results may occur).

NOTE: You can view the real time images from anywhere on the web with the free Logitech Web Alert Viewer. To get full control with playback via a remote PC you must purchase the Logitech Web and Mobile Commander for an annual fee* of $80 (at the time of this writing).

Unless...

You keep a PC turned on all the time and control it from any PC (or web enabled phone) on the web using Teamviewer or LogMeIn (both are free for private use you can download the programs from Cnet.com). Then you can access the Logitech Alert Commander interface as you normally do from home.

UPDATE 1: I am using the free version of LogMeIn and it works great. The only disadvantage is that you can not hear audio from the home computer. But you can see the live video feed and use playback along with camera adjustments etc. Actually you can operate your home computer just as if you were sitting in front of it. You can access it from work or anywhere in the world via the internet.

UPDATE 2: I have now used both remote programs for over a month. Logmein appear to be unreliable with respect to video quality. TEAMVIEWER IS THE WINNER (To get perfect video quality: select "View", "Optimize Quality" from the TeamViewer screen on the remote computer). TeamViewer will also let you transfer recorded video files (or any file for that matter) when you are away from home.

Cost for leaving your home computer on all the time.

The cost for a 40 Watts consumer** 24 hours per day, 365 days per year = $35/year at $0.10 per kWh.

However, LogMeIn allows you to use "Wake Up On LAN" so you can turn your home computer on from the remote computer (Too much to cover here).

* Come on Logitech!!! Reduce it to a $50 one time fee and sell more systems to happier customers.

** One UPS manufacturer estimates 40 watts power consumption from an entry level desk top with a 20 LCD monitor. Turn the monitor off and bring the cost down even more. Also set the hard drive to turn off if not in use via Windows "Power Options Interface". You may also be able to set the home computer to "Wake up on LAN".

INSTALLATION OF THE CAMERA'S POWER/DATA ADAPTER IN THE ATTIC

First of all I wanted to hide the wire to the camera.

Logitech's instructions show the power/data wire going from the camera to a power outlet on the side of the house.

Consequently a thief can easily unplug the camera.

Solution

Pull an extension cord from a power outlet in the attic (or somewhere else) and connect it to the grey power supply/adapter for the camera.

IT WORKS!!!

NOTE: WHATEVER YOU DO WHEN PULLING WIRES MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL CODES.

I know Logitech Customer Service had told another reviewer "The adapters CANNOT be installed in the attic".

Logitech may be concerned about high attic temperatures present in some climates.

My attic does not get very hot; in addition I mounted the adapter just above the lower perimeter soffit vent where outside air constantly flows in.

The power/data Ethernet cable to the exterior camera (mounted under the roof overhang) is now routed through the soffit to the camera adapter in the attic.

Drill a 9/16" (14 mm) hole to allow the Ethernet plug to pass through the soffit. Mount the power adapter over the soffit vent with the power cable coming out at the top as shown in Logitech's instructions.

NOTE: I used a 100 foot grounded heavy duty extension cord plugged into a grounded power outlet. I don't know if using a grounded outlet and grounded extension cord matters because none of the adapters are equipped with grounded plugs. You may not need a heavy duty cord as the camera adapter uses very little power.

PREVENT BLACKOUT DURING POWER OUTAGES USING A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

I still want the surveillance system to work during power outages or if the power line to the house is cut.

The Manual tell you it will not work if you use a surge protector or UPS.

Solution

I already have the cable modem and the wireless router plugged into an APC BN600R Battery Backup (UPS), so all I had to do was to plug the black Logitech network adapter into the UPS and pull an extension cord from the UPS to the grey Logitech camera adapter. All the equipment is fed from a single UPS.

IT WORKS!!!

The disadvantage is that you have to pull extension cord(s) from the UPS to the camera adapters. In my case it was not a problem because the extension cord would drop down from the attic between the studs in one of the walls to where I have my router.

I am sure you can use a higher capacity UPS as long as ALL your Logitech adapters are connected to it.

WHATEVER YOU DO WHEN PULLING WIRES MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL CODES.

SOUND/AUDIO

Out of the box there was no audio from the camera.

Solution

To turn the sound on:

1) Un-mute from the Command screen (slider at the right hand bottom) and

2) Click on Settings (gearwheel icon) and click on the camera name (your camera(s) will be listed by the name you give them during setup "Entry way", "Hall way" etc.)

Then check the box Enable Audio (after accepting the legal notice).

Note: If you have more than one camera, you have to Enable Audio for each one.

GOOD QUALITY PRICE RATIO

Overall I will rate the Logitech 750e a quality system for the money. As an alternative, you can purchase professional systems that will cost thousands of $ but is unlikely that they have the remote access this system has.

Perhaps Logitech have "beefed up" the mounting hardware for the camera. My hardware is rigid and of good quality. Another reviewer had problems with the hardware.

(I tightened and pre-adjusted the holder/adapter and added a drop of Locktite (blue) to the threads prior to installation. It is easier done on the ground as compared to the top of a 15 foot ladder).

UPDATE: The mounting plate is covered with a rubber cover. You have to tighten the holder rod FIRMLY to the base to ensure a rigid mount (or else the camera will wiggle).

Also, one of the cameras would turn freely no matter how hard the thumbscrew was tightened. It turned out that there is a phillips screw hiden inside the short rod which is being clamped by the thumbscrew assembly. The phillips screw was loose. Simply remove the thumbscrew completely to take the assembly apart. Then tighten the phillips screw and put it back together.

Logitech, QA/QC you need to address this issue. This is probably why so many people are complaining about the camera mount.

ALARM SYSTEM Section added October 7, 2011

Before installing the system I had tried a couple of alarm systems with wireless sensors on the windows and doors. It was a lot of work to set up and configure but I could have lived with that if it wasn't for the false alarms. THEY DROVE ME AND THE NEIGHBORS CRAZY.

Now I use the Logitech camera-setup as a silent alarm system. The email/text message alert tells me if a camera detects motion and I can immediately check what is going on over the internet via my Android phone (I finally got one) or from the PC in the hotel lobby.

This way you can actually watch what is going on in and around the house before calling the police.

Suggestion: Add the number for the dispatcher at your local police station to your phone book. (Calling 911 from Florida will probably take too long if your house is in Maine).

Here is what I have learned.

A camera MAY report motion (and send an email/text message*) if the shadows from clouds etc suddenly moves across the area the camera is set to monitor. I say MAY because it very seldom happens.

The solution is to exclude these window or potential "moving shadow" areas from the cameras trigger area(s).

A camera WILL report motion if a large insect or flying leaf moves over the trigger area. Even a small chipmunk on the ground will trigger the camera. Consequently I do not use an outside camera to send me text messages if motion is detected.

When an outdoor camera is operating in night vision mode insects are attracted to it like a regular light bulb. Fortunately it is only a special type of insect that triggers my camera. It looks like a white flying spiral worm that is one to two inches long and 0.5" in diameter (I have not observed any other type of insects trigger a camera).

* Providing you have armed the system.

HOW TO CONNECT WITHOUT CABLE, DSL or ADSL INTERNET SERVICE Section added February 21, 2012

We have a cabin without wired internet service and without 3G broadband signal. The good news is that my year-round neighbor has internet service and a WiFi router. The signal from the router is very weak. However I managed to get EXCELLENT signal strength using the Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi network Adapter with 5dBi Antenna and Suction cup Window Mount dock for Wardriving & Range Extension antenna connected to the USB port on my computer.

Next step was to get the signal into a router. Again, Alfa to the rescue; they make a small but very sophisticated router that connects to their antenna (or a 3G USB adapter). Alfa R36 802.11 b, g N, Repeater and Range Extender for AWUS036H can also be used as a 3G Router Enables you to Extend to Signal that is picked up by the AWUS036H and distribute the internet to multiple Users (Desktops, Laptops, tablets, iPods or iPad...

It was very simple to set up: WiFi signal from neighbor -> to Alfa Antenna -> to USB port on the R36 router -> to the black Logitech network adapter via Ethernet cable -> to PC running the Logitech software (this last step is optional).

NOTE ALL COMPONENTS MUST BE POWERED DOWN AND UP AGAIN FOR THE CAMERA TO BE FOUND AND BECOME LIVE VIA THE Alert.Logitech.com website.

That was easy...

... and my neighbor did not have a problem sharing his WiFi signal in the spirit of neighborhood watch and safety.

I hope this review helps you. The system is very easy to get up and running. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I've been waiting for an inexpensive HD security system to come out. This system is pretty good and, for the most part, does what I want it to do.

SETUP: Setup isn't too bad. Just remember to read the directions but there are a few gotchas such as, you can't plug the camera side or the network side plugs into a power strip because of the circuitry screws up the data making it out of the power strip. This leads to the first problem I have. You have to use a dedicated outlet for each plug. In my older house, plugs are few and far between.

SOFTWARE: The software installation was quick and painless. Immediately the software updated the firmware for my camera which was nice. The software controls are OK. It's missing some key features in my opinion. There is no "record" button. So it only records if it detects motion. I want the ability to be able to record on demand.

MOTION: You can select up to 6 zones that trigger recordings and alerts when there is movement. The downside is, the zones are only square. I wish you could make angles as well. The motion is too sensitive imho. I have it all the way down and it finally seems to be only pick up large movement.

CAMERA: The camera is of very high quality. It is all metal and it feels solid and like it will last a long time. I was surprised on how well built it is. It also has a microphone that works really well. It picks up everything. The last thing is the night vision. It works pretty good. The image quality is pretty good. I give it an 8 out of 10 when looking at the picture in the software. To my surprise, the image when viewing the videos manually are better!

REMOTE VIEWING: Viewing the image on my iphone is pretty cool. There is about a 5-10 second delay, which is to be expected. Viewing the image at is decent, though you already know from the other reviews that there is no sound with remote viewing.

ALERTS: The email alerts are cool but I wish they would send you a screen shot as to why there was an alert. So imagine you get an alert, you log onto or view the picture on your phone and now whatever it is that triggered the alert is gone, so you have no ideas what happened. On top of that, the free viewing doesn't have any way to rewind to see what's going on, so you'll have to wait until you get home. One workaround is, if you have remote software for your PC, you can remotely connect to your PC and view the software that way, but most users will have no idea how to do this.

The other alert is right on your desktop, which seems cool at first, a sound is made and then a small picture pops up. the problem is, you can't click the picture to make it bigger, it just disappears after a few seconds.

OTHER: The cord that comes with the camera is not long enough. I think it's 25ft. Which is decent, but they should give you 100ft for the money that you pay. You can buy more cord but I feel you shouldn't have to with the first camera.

All in all, I like this setup though it could use some improvements here and there. I plan to keep mine and add more cameras hoping they improve the software.

UPDATE: After doing some research over the weekend, I realize how bad the Logitech software really is. Instead I decided to go with software called, "Blue Iris" which is worlds better than the Logitech software in every way. So much so, I paid $50 for it. After that, I realized that the appeal of the Logitech camera system starts to fade since I could literally buy any camera and use it with Blue Iris. Currently I am running Blue Iris with one Logitech 700e and my Logitech C910 HD webcam and it works flawlessly. Admittedly it's not going to be as easy for normal folk, but for a techie like me, it's more than worth the effort. Bottom line, if you decide to get the Logitech camera, don't waste your money on the "System" package and just get the camera and purchase Blue Iris instead. Or, do what I plan to do, research similar cameras and see what my options are.

BTW If you want to just connect to your camera, download VLC player and then use the "Advanced File Open" menu and type "" or " Cheers!

11/5/2011 Update: OK, I've had the cameras for almost a year now. I've been really happy with them. For the price, you can't beat it. I raised the stars back to 3. I still ding it for a few things. I really wish it was 30fps, but I guess it would be a lot of bandwidth over the internet, so they probably made a decision to chop it 15fps to conserve bandwidth and to save a little money on the camera side. I still use Blue Iris for 99% of my recording(I record 24/7 for 7 days). I actually use the email alerts with Logitech over Blue Iris since Blue Iris has a bug where it spits garbage onto the screen and falsely sets off the motion. I mentioned in my earlier review that there are no pictures with the email alerts. I was wrong, there is! I have caught somebody casing my house(they ended up robbing my next door neighbors house), I caught an accident, and a couple of drug deals. I see which critters walk around my house at night(raccoons, cats, and skunks), and catch everything from spiders to birds to every solicitor that comes to my door. I love knowing when people are coming and going. I see when packages are delivered and all with great clarity. If Logitech could add 24/7 recording, diagonal blocks on the motion page and lower the price of the yearly subscription, I would give them a 5. Anyhoo, just thought I'd post again since I felt my 2 stars were a bit low.

We have always been Logitech users and strong supporters so choosing their outdoor security camera seemed to be a no-brainer. Unfortunately this was not the case. We don't know whether it is just this product group or a corporate change in direction butThis product is poorly thought out, the support is all but non-existent and overall experience is regrettable.

Others have mentioned the sad state of the bracket. I did not imagine it could be so bad. It is worse. It is weak and flimsy and, if the extension arm is put on, destined to fail.

The product description says: "Complete outdoor digital video security system, easy to install, no new wiring or networking needed". While possibly true in some cases, it certainly was not in ours.

Few of us have a free wall outlet within a few feet of our computer yet you must plug a giant power supply/HomePlug bridge into a wall outlet by your computer. It cannot plug into a surge strip or UPS and, if you place it in the upper outlet (as illustrated) it will block the lower. If you try to hang it off the lower outlet it is unsecured and is constantly trying to fall out. So much for dependabilityno backup and limited stay-in. And you are out one entire outlet.

The power supply/HomePlug bridge then is supposed to plug into your router with a short, flimsy flat CAT-5 cable. If you are wireless you are out of luck. It is "wireless" meaning it uses HomePlug powerline carrier but not 802.11 Wi-Fi.

If you have anything else plugged into your router you may also be in trouble. I have a network printer, streaming DVD , satellite dish and a DSL modem which all got along fine before. When I plug in the Home-Plug device the whole network goes down. Tech Support might help me trick it into functioning but they do not call back or answer emails.

The outdoor installation is interesting, too. The HomePlug bridge/power supply plugs into a right angle adapter that cannot fit in an outdoor box with anything else. It also wants to rock out of the outlet and must be secured. You are out one entire outlet.

The two circuits for the two HomePlug adapters have to be free of other devices that might interfere. If it doesn't work the instructions say to "just" plug it in to another closer outlet. So you have the "freedom" to mount it anywhere you have a dedicated outlet that has nothing else on the circuit. You cannot, necessarily, place the camera where you wanted to place it. I had an electronic outdoor lighting timer that could not coexist with the HomePlug. You are now out one entire circuit.

The outdoor supply/bridge is on a 2 foot cord and can be placed anywhere. Anywhere, that is, within about a foot of the box in a single acceptable orientation at the same height as the box and with a drip loop below. It cannot mouth sideways right or left, above, or upside down. And then for the best partit cannot be mounted in the sun! You just bought an "outdoor" system that cannot be mounted in the sun!

The camera once mounted on the aforementioned flimsy bracket is then wired with an equally flimsy flat CAT-5 cable. The camera and the power supply have to be opened up to receive it. Oh, by the way, the camera cannot be mounted in the sun either! Their outdoors must be different than my outdoors.

After it doesn't work you call Tech Support and hold for half an hour if you are lucky. The guy then tells you that he thinks you have a bad camera but that he has to escalate to Second Tier Support who work sometime Monday through Friday. They do not call or answer your email.

My wife and I are both technical people in the electronics industry. We are not intimidated by technical issues and know quality when we see it. We haven't seen it in this product.

Will it be a good system one day? ...probably it does has tremendous potential but honestly, it's not ready for prime time having spent almost $2000 to buy and install this system, I'm committed and just hoping that one day soon Logitech will issue a MAJOR software update (and some firmware improvements too) that lifts this camera up to the level it deserves. RIGHT NOW, the cameras are substantially under-served by the software, which is almost so elementary it's pitiful. And if I were to go away and the power flickered, even for ten seconds, I'd have 0 access to my system and no way to reset it. Again, RIDICULOUS!

I finally managed to get Logitech's attention with a rant on their forum (like so many of us have had to do) and they actually had a L2 supervisor call me we had a nice discussion but basically nothing great came out of that except a lot of promises for future enhancements if they are true to their word, I may ultimately be a very happy user, but so far, I could have gotten twice the cameras for half the price in another brand probably not the video quality but acceptable. That is Logitech Alert's saving grace: video quality during daylight hours, is excellent. At night, not so much.

Wake up Logitech! You have a great product with lousy software (and even worse "support") time to get your software engineers off their hind ends and get this nice camera system working like it should! It's taking way to long and the general lack of "response" from Logitech on the forums is at best, limited and contrite. After spending nearly 2 G's, I expect better than that.

Oh, one more thing: if you want to have "full function" access on your Iphone or via a web browser, you will have to pay an annual fee not very reasonable at $89/yr especially when the only thing it brings is ability to playback "motion alerts" (of which there will be MANY if it's raining or snowing or the wind is blowing because their sensitivity controls are not able to adjust for these normal, almost daily "events" and cannot distinquish between rain falling and some unauthorized human prowling around your home or business. AND you cannot have full control of your cameras if you install this system on your laptop and go on a trip you must leave the "Commander" on the network for it to work otherwise you are limited to your SD recordings (all 2 GB of them, which can be a day or so if it's raining!)

Good luck but if I was you, I'd wait until you see some glowing reports about improvements and software enhancements before spending this kind of money. It's just not quite ready for prime time.

As others have already mentioned, this is a great system for people that want to set up a good quality surveillance/monitoring system but don't necessarily have the technical skills to do so and/or don't want to run the wires all over their house for a CCTV setup. The powerline adapters make it easy to install the cameras anywhere you want as long as there is a power outlet nearby. There are some limitations there, but it should work for most common applications. In my particular case, I didn't use the powerline adapters and have my Alert cameras running from a POE (Power-over-Ethernet) switch, so the cameras are fully POE compliant. I won't go into pros of the system since they have already been covered by other reviewers earlier, but I wanted to mention a few things that are not necessarily cons of the system, but something I would have liked to have available:

The desktop Commander software can only be used from one computer on your network; if you have more than one computer at home, you will not be able to manage or monitor your cameras from other computer(s), unless you use the web version of the Commander on that other computer(s). If you only want to monitor your camera from another computer, you can just use the free version of the Web Commander for that, but if you also want to be able to manage your cameras, you will have to pay the annual fee as if you were doing it remotely. It would be nice to be able to manage your system from any computer on your network.

It would be nice to be able to schedule email alerts for only certain hours of the day. I only want to receive motion alerts from my cameras when I'm not at home, and I want them to stop when I get home because otherwise the system starts "spamming" you with emails from each camera every few minutes as you and your family keep moving around the house and triggering the motion detectors. It got to the point where I have to manually turn off the alerts when I get home, and remember to turn them on before I leave in the morning, which is easy to forget.

It would also be nice to have the Commander software included with the add-on cameras, or simply make it available for download from Logitech's website. It would save people that want to run the system via POE (without using the powerline adapters) a few dollars by not having to purchase the Master System since they don't need anything that comes with it other than the software.

Maybe someone from the Logitech's team will read this review and decide to incorporate some of these requests into the future releases of the Commander software.

Just bought this. I am comparing it to my Blackberry playbook and can say that for the price it seems that the Nextbook holds up well. Downside items are that the battery life is short, and the instruction guide puts it at 6 hours on music playback and 5 hours of Youtube watching. Acceptable battery for a low priced productbut of course the Playbook exceeds this by a day or two. Response is good, graphics and display look is fair, this is not retina display quality but acceptable. Sound is surprisingly good and my model came with a good amount of apps pre-loaded. Good for the price if you do not want to travel with a higher-priced tablet. The charging port is a pin sized, almost earphone jack style and signals the low qualityI would question the ease of adapting a battery extender or back up. Other ports are well placed. All in all-good for the low price.

Using this cable to connect my up-converting DVD player to our new TV. Works fine with great audio at 1080i and 1080p. I tried it with my laptop as well, just because and it worked well too.

The included dust caps are a nice feature as well. I have two of these and the extra sits coiled up behind the TV for when friends bring over game systems and such, so the dust cap was a welcome freebie!

Just bought a 55 inch Sony. Shopped around for different HDMI cables and thought I'd try these out before a spent big money on the more expensive cables. I bought this specifically for use in the MPC 2000xl that I put an Addonics card reader into in place of the old floppy. Works like a charm!

I highly recommend this, but I hear the 2gb card is also a good fit with the Akai MPC2000xl and the current price on it is much less-expensive. So I will be trying it out next.

Livescribe 8 GB Echo Smartpen Pro Pack (APX-00007)

I got the LiveScribe 8GB with the Pro Pack and I had some skepticism, given some of the reviews here. After testing the product for a few hours I am in love! I am able to take digital notes with or without audio recordings, the stylus ink works fine (still, I bought replacements from a swiss pen company, just in case the reviews are correct after some use), and the MyScribe managed to recognize 90% of my terrible handwriting (the other 10% I sometimes struggle to recognize as well). I am about to go to Grad school and this pen will allow me to preserve every single note in searchable format digitally (in my industry that means a lot). As a side benefit, the pen has a number of cool apps I can use to convert my notebook it into a tablet for my computer, create digital tables, calculate units, etc. Thank you, LiveScribe! (I will keep posting updates if anything changes)

Think of this as note recorder + scanner + biro in a fountain pen look-a-like shell with a hand writing recognition software included to boot. When you add up all these features for the price being offered on Amazon, it's quite reasonable. I found the recording sensitivity excellent especially with the 3-D recording headset provided in the Pro-Pack. Great for recording in a lecture theatre. I can't recommend this enough for the university student. I always found it difficult getting down all the notes in time in my university lectures. It comes in handy when you can point to a particular place in your notes and the recorded notes takes you to that exact point in the playback. You never have to be afraid of missing out on an important point from a lecture or speech.

When you plug in the smartpen to your Mac, each page is an exact scan or "pencast" of your written notes. By using the included MyScript software, you can also convert your handwritten notes to digital text. Admittedly the handwriting recognition software isn't perfect but it's 80% of the way there depending on how neatly or how legibly you write. It's better than having to retype out your handwritten notes from scratch. You just have to review the digital text and amend the words that weren't recognised correctly. If you're a student, all this cuts down your notetaking and prep time by half, leaves you with more actual study time. You can use these pencasts to more easily edit your notes to form your final review notes for your exams.

The pen might look a bit clunky and unwieldly but surprisingly is much easier to write with in the Echo version. This is due to the better grip on the Echo as compared to the Pulse. The biggest design flaw I think is the "smartpen cap" that is used to cover the pen nib and ocr hardware at the pen tip. Once this cap is taken off, there's nowhere for it to be placed on the pen so could easily be lost. In normal pens, a pen cap or lid can usually be placed on top of the pen for the duration that the pen is being used to write with and then taken off to replace the cap back on the tip. But this is not possible with the smartpen as this is where the mini-USB connector and phone jack is located. So I guess just be careful not to lose the pen cap when you've taken it off the pen.

The software that comes with Livescribe is relatively easy to use and quite apparent even without reading the user manual / guide. The smartpen also comes with some apps that can be loaded up on the pen. The apps are really basic but you at least get about 10mins worth of fun out of them. My favourite are the language apps. For when you're bored just repeat some travel phrases, comes in handy when you're ready to travel abroad. Overall, I found the pen and software easy to use, pretty straight forward. If you're a student, the smartpen will be pretty handy especially for those that want to capture every single word in a lecture or tutorial. If you're in a profession that requires notes to be recorded as exactly as possible, the smartpen will deliver on that requirement.

I bought a Livescribe Echo 8 GB on special and was very excited about using this technology to post solutions to problems for my chemistry class. First, it would not synch. We finally traced this to the fact that the USB cannot be plugged into a hub, which is something they don't tell you.

The next problem is that the pencast pdfs created from the pen are very quirky. Specifically, the ink that is supposed to be light gray (and darkens as you write) is already dark in random spots when you start the pdf and it doesn't change as you write over it. This makes the presentation very confusing.

Another problem is that they claim you can re-order pages in a pencast using "Custom Notebooks" feature of their desktop, and when you export them to a pdf the pages should remain re-ordered. This is essential if you mess up, say, page 1 of a two-page pencast, and then want to re-record only that page. It becomes page 3, but can be re-ordered in front of page 2 in a "Custom Notebook." However, in the pdf, the pages are NOT reordered.

I had four e-mail exchanges with their support and sent them all sorts of files as requested. I probably spent 6-8 hours helping them to troubleshoot this problem. In the end, they are not responding, probably because they can't fix the problems. Worse yet, I bought extra notebooks, pen tips, a case, and an extra USB cable.

I strongly suggest avoiding this product until they have fixes for these and other bugs. It is a slick idea with a very amateurish execution.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this pen. I read reviews on the Livescribe site, Amazon, and others. I was concerned about what people were saying about the ink in particularly. I decided to buy the pen anyway as an Xmas gift to myself.

So far, I have not been disappointed. The ink that came with the pen flows nicely which was surprising since I expected something worse (because of the reviews). I can see that the cartridges are smaller than a typical pen cartridge, and that is probably not by accident :-) Livescribe could still make good money from a regular sized cartridge. They seem pricey as well. Their bean counters should check their math and read up on economies of scale: They'd sell more cartridges if they were priced better. Right now it seems like a lot of folks are looking for alternatives and have come up with some creative solutions, just to save a few dollars. Livescribe pay attention to your extremely loyal base--someone will come along soon enough and see a new marketing opportunity for either 3rd party cartridges or a new brand of smart pens.

As for the pen itself--remarkable. I like the small portfolio with A5 notebooks. Small footprint when I am taking notes at work, meetings, etc. Audio recording is very good, even without the binaural headphones. I love using the calculator, too. Livescribe connect is a snap to use. I frequently email my notes to others. I do wish eventually a wifi transfer method were added, but that could lead to a larger pen and the echo is large enough!

Myscript works great, too. Flawless handwriting recognition. I've let it transcribe a few dozen pages into MS Word and so far not a single problem.

I use OneNote as well, and when I import the notes into my table PC's copy of OneNote, it also does handwriting recognition flawlessly but that is also because my tablet has been trained on my handwriting for well over a year.

I bought the text to table app and it works fine.

Learning curve wasn't steep. If you set an hour aside when you get the pen you can update the firmware, watch the exercise videos, and learn the app functions. It's not that hard at all.

Things I'd like to see in the next version of a Livescribe pen:

1. bigger ink cartridges, for the same price or cheaper as the current ones.

2. Ability to track or even deactivate a pen if it gets stolen or lost. These are both easy in today's technology.

3. Wireless transmission of notes. This is the pen's greatest weakness.

4. A narrower design, if possible. I'd pay more for the pen to have that feature alone.

I would have given it five stars, but the size of the ink and the price of it forced me to knock off one star. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

The pen itself works fine, the audio is what you would expect, you can hear the speaker but there is background noise that you can't really get rid of without running audio filters. The actual digitization of your handwriting works quite well and syncs nicely. The problem is and this seems to be a wide spread problem if you look at their support page is that pens will not transfer the audio to your computer so you can't archive notebooks and their associated audio. I am not sure about other but that was why I bought the product so this is kinda a deal breaker for me... Also their support is quite lacking, I have spent 2 weeks waiting to hear anything what so ever from their customer service department...

The Pyle Home PDH14 plays DVDs nicely, with great clarity and the size is large enough that several people can watch together without being huddled around it in a tight semicircle. For those exclusive characteristics, I would give 5 stars.

However, this is a PORTABLE DVD PLAYER, and must be evaluated as such. After the initial charge (took several hours), the player was shut down and detached from the charger. The next day, 7 hours later, I tried to use the player, but it would only turn on momentarily, then shut immediately off. After several attempts, I realized the battery was nearly dead. It would play unremarkably while connected to the AC adapter, except the remote wouldn't work (more on that later). So, I referred to the owner's manual again, and discovered that there is a switch on the right side of the player that must be in the off position in addition to shutting it off with the standard power button (momentary switch, circle with line through it icon). So I reconnected the charger, waited until it indicated it was again fully charged, and powered the player down ensuring the side switch was also off. Three hours later, I powered the player up only to discover the battery was nearly dead again!? After repeating this cycle two more times, it became apparent that the battery was not going to hold a charge, or there was a parasitic drain on the system that would not allow it to be unplugged for more than a short while without discharging. Bottom line: when immediately played after disconnecting adapter, the player could be watched untethered to a wall outlet for 57 minutes--SCRATCH PORTABLE FROM THIS PLAYER.

Second problem with the player I received was the remote was inoperable. Albeit, a minor problem with this player since no control features were exclusive to the remote, and all could be accesses through the player's MENU interface. It should be noted the player did not come with batteries; so, I installed new batteries, ensured correct polarity, and... nothing. With batteries in remote, I tested voltage into the remote and it was 3.31 volts. I then viewed the remote's LED while operating with my IR camera that visually reveals function of remotes--also nothing. At that point, I didn't bother attempting to further disassemble the remote (split the case) as the major problem with the player's ability to be portable had already been discovered.

In all honesty, had the player worked as stated regarding portability (been able to watch a full movie while not connected to a wall receptacle), I would have overlooked the bad remote. I contacted the selelr (Quality Car Audio), repackaged, and return-shipped at my expense, and was refunded the price of the player. I've since read more than a handful of reviews stating remotes weren't working. I'm always looking for a good deal and I'm very pragmatic/frugal--but this Pyle Home PDH14 DVD Player wasn't it. I cannot recommend the PDH14 based on my experience with it.

Fun little DVD player! It hooks my train ride up with action, comedy and basically helps me time-travel through my commute. You can use a DVD with it, or a USB thumb drive if you so choose, it does both. Has great battery life, often lasting for two days before I give it a recharge. Charges fully in about an hour. Great for the hour commute each day. The remote control is a fully functional one, meaning you can select any menu feature with it that you can directly on the unit.

The compact size is perfect. Very lightweight, and folds flat around the size of a laptop. Very dependable.

I just traveled from NY to Brazil with 4 kids and AA airlines do not offer any videos for kids. This was the smartest idea to take with this DVD player. The battery like is like all DVD players about 3 hours. I also bought an external battery for extra life. The unit is very clear and good quality. The good thing about this is that I put on some family videos on a USB drive and they watched those videos as well. Overall I think this is a great product especially for the price. I like the idea you can tilt the unit monitor. ION Audio VCR 2 PC USB VHS Video to Computer Converter

I purchased this unit after trying various other methods of getting my old family VHS tapes onto my computer to make DVD's. I was not happy with anything I had tried so this was my last resort. Truthfully, I hated to spend the $ on another VCR. I read the reviews on this product after I purchased it and immediately second-guessed my reasons for purchasing. I planned to return it due to the dismal reviews but it ended up sitting in the box for a month. Finally I decided I might as well try it. I'm so glad I did!

This product is easy to use out of the box. Plug it into the wall, plug the USB into the computer, install the software, put in a tape and press record. I like that you can leave it recording and go do something else. I found the software installation very quick and easy. The documentation with the unit is not very detailed but it is a very simple program to figure out. I like that you can edit the video within the program before burning to DVD. I like that it saves the files onto computer in JPEG files so I can further edit and play with them in MovieMaker or another program. This unit/program can not be faulted for poor quality from old VHS tapes. I feel that some reviewers blame this unit for that. I have not yet tried this with my vhs-c tapes and adapter. If any problems are encountered I will report.

The software burns DVD's very nicely, has a menu format and different choices of menu designs. It also will print DVD jewel case inserts to match. Someone's review also seemed to blame this unit for their machine not having enough memory for video. It's fairly common knowledge that video eats up memory. Each of my 2 hr. vhs tapes is hogging up to 4 GB's on my harddrive. My solution was to purchase a portable external hard drive that I will put all family video on and that takes care of that!

I've had no problems with dropped frames but do occasionally have some problems with tracking that I feel are not the fault of this machine but due to the fact that most of my tapes are a quarter of a century old! The only fault I can find so far with this unit is that the tracking buttons don't make much difference in quality when I do have a problem. During these times, I take the tape and put in another VCR in my house and tweak it as much as I can. I expect to lose some video after all this time in storage and so far, out of 15 tapes, I'd say I've only had to edit out about 15 minutes due to tracking problems.

This unit, in my opinion, has already paid for itself. The cost of someone else converting these was expensive. I am very happy with this product; it's doing exactly what I needed it to do!

Update: All vhs tapes copied fine to pc. I then moved onto vhs-c and mini-dv tapes. I did not use the adapters and instead used the cables that came with each camera. I used the video cameras as the vcr to play the tapes and then ran them through the Ion VCR 2 PC. (The video and audio cables plug easily into the front of the unit) Set the tape/other switch to other and you're good to go. Everything went off without a hitch. I am very happy with this machine and the software. The instructional manual can be accessed while running the program by pressing the F1 key on your keyboard. This is very helpful with the software.

just finished my first VHS Tape to MPEG conversion with the VCR2PC and it couldn't have been easier. the only issue i ran into was installing it on Windows 7 x64 because the driver on the CD isn't digitally signed. however, you go to the site and under documentation & downloads i got the instructions on how to update the driver and the digitally signed driver for x86/x64 XP/Vista/7

the video and audio quality was an exact replica of the original tape.

here are the steps i took:

1. plug VCR2PC into outlet

2. insert cd into PC

3. plug usb cable into PC and VCR2PC

3.a at this point it should have auto installed but i just got a message box in the tray that said your hardware was not installed correctly.

3.b i went to Device Manager and there a yellow exclamation on VCR2PC, i right clicked on it, updated the driver and pointed to the CD

3.c the driver installed successfully but Windows Vista/7 x64 disabled the driver because it was not digitally signed by the publisher

3.d i went to www.ion-audio.com/vcr2pc click on Documents & Downloads and downloaded the following:

3.e i unzipped the NTSC Hardware Driver zip file to a temp folder C:\Temp

4. from the CD i ran the setup file on the root of the CD and ran the default settings

5. i opened EZ VHS Converter (ArcSoft product, excellent software package that is compatible with Media Center remotes)

5.a i got an error that said there is a problem with my sound device, i ignored this error

6. i put in Rush Hour VHS tape which wasn't rewound so it started automatically in the middle. i got audio perfectly and in sync so i figured the error about the sound device wasn't worth looking into

6.a i rewound the tape and played from the beginning

7. the movie box says approx 97 minutes so i set EZ VHS Converter to record for 1 hour 40 minutes

8. when the tape got to the point where i wanted to start the recording i just clicked Record

8.a 1 hour and 40 minutes later i had my MPEG version of my VHS in my Videos folder. (My Documents/My Videos)

you can also set it to record for more time and just click Record/Stop to manually adjust the length of recording time.

there is also a check box you can check for automatically creating a DVD.

the 1 hour 40 minutes converted to a 2.94GB MPEG.

it also has composite out and single channel audio out so it can double as a standard DVD player.

the one drawback to this product is the lack of editing software. i don't need it but it is definitely something that should be included. however, there are plenty of free editing tools out there.

i'm sure some of the negative review are from people using underpowered computers that couldn't keep up with the conversion. i have no idea what the minimum specs would be as i haven't found them anywhere. you shouldn't need a real powerful computer but i could the average user with their junked up PC having an issue.

it says right on the FAQ that it isn't compatible with XP/Vista 64-bit. but in the drivers both on the cd and the downloaded version there is a 0140_x64.sys file and a 0140_x86.sys file so obviously the drivers are either compatible or they aren't fully tested yet. i've tested both Win7 and Vista 64 and both work fine

I was really hopeful about this product. I really would like to easily convert a bunch of old videos we have from my childhood.

Beyond the hardware complaints, my #1 problem is: THEY INSTALL AD SOFTWARE ALONG WITH THEIR OWN SOFTWARE.

The software that you have to install to record things from this unit also installs Arcsoft drivers for video encoding/decoding. The Arcsoft drivers install a service on your computer that ALWAYS runs in the background, and another service that displays ads for their products in the bottom right hand corner of your screen... even if you have all other software closed.

You can opt to "stop showing these", but their background service called "Arcsoft Connect" continues to run in the background doing God knows what.

There is no way to UNINSTALL this without uninstalling all of the recording software.

Do a quick Google search for "Arcsoft Connect" and you'll see many other complaints with this software.

My other problems were with the tracking. On many older tapes, the tracking would continually adjust itself. There is no way to manually adjust it; after playing with this thing for hours, the tracking buttons on the front don't seem to do anything. Even when the auto-tracking gets it right, it starts auto-tracking again and messes up all over again.

This is a great concept, but very poor implementation. Cheap hardware, cheap software. Not many options. They probably cut a deal with Arcsoft to use their drivers for free if Arcsoft could display ads.

This seems to be a problem with all of Ion's products; they're just cheaply made.

Like you I read the reviews for the Ion VCR 2 PC converter. The reviews seemed split between fantastic and piece of crap. Tough to reconcile, huh? It really worked quite well right out of the box. Loading the software was simple and the controls were pretty intuitive. I've enjoyed loading different VHS tapes, etc.

It seems that the complaints are glitches computers that didn't work well with it and/or folks who expected a lot of editing abilities they aren't there. This is great for converting VHS to PC just what I wanted, just what I got I love it!

This was very easy to use, installed first try. I am using Windows 7 on a quad core computer with 4Gb of memory. Video-wise it was OK although it seemed to have tracking problems once in awhile where a noise bar would work it's way down the screen.

It is the audio that is terrible. When VCR's first came out they had a stationary head for the audio that read from a track on the very edge of the tape. The video was laid down by a rotating video head that was able to lay down a terrific amount of information because the rotating head made it appear that the tape was moving at a very fast speed. The actual tape was moving very slowly and so the audio was mono and had a terrific amount of wow and flutter; it would also fade in and out if the edge of the tape had the slightest imperfections. After a few years the audio was added to the rotating video head and so it was extremely good quality and also was stereo. Even the cheapest VCR's today have the audio on the rotating head for good sound quality (I just bought a refurbed VCR/DVD combo for my RV and the sound is great).

I looked everywhere but nowhere could I find where this unit was getting it's audio. My suspicion is that it is getting the sound from that old technology stationary audio head, mono and terrible sounding.

I have returned the unit and will go with a conventional VCR and an analog to digital converter to input into my computer.

Sorry to be so technical but it's the only explanation I think for the terrible sound. This item could be a great item but I think they went the cheap route on the sound and are losing sales because of it.
