Summary: Burns at 2.4x 4x on LG WH10LS30K (in NexStar NX NST-530S2). I haven't had a single issue and have been able to play the media on every blu-ray player that I have tried (Panasonic, Sony, Vizio, Samsung, PS3) Fantastic buy!

This is my first review, I just felt the need to defend these discs. I recently purchased LG's WH10LS30K (Burner), Vantec's NexStar DX NST-530S2 (5.25 External Case) and went searching to the best deal on BD-R 50's. I stumbled across these and was hesitant to purchase at first. There aren't enough reviews, and the ones that are posted are mixed results. I figured why not give it a try and post my results on here.

Using my LG WH10LS30K, I burned all 25 discs flawlessly @ 2.4x-4x. I have since purchased two additional spindles with the same results. I'm buying the 100 pack next time I order to same some extra money. I highly recommend these discs.

If you are having issues with these discs it's more likely an issue with your computer/burner than the discs themselves.

Here are some helpful tips.

Ensure your drive's FW is updated

Slow your write speeds. I burn at 4x, sometimes 2.4x (on images over 40GB)

Set the layer break. Most errors occur as your reach peak write speed and the edge of the disc. Leave 1-2GB of free space on the first layer to prevent this.

Close unused background applications/processes.

DO NOT touch, move bump or use your computer after pressing that "Burn" button. Burning large amounts of data takes resources, why risk a $5 disc just so you can check your email or facebook? As soon as you click "Burn", just walk away.

At first I was concerned because this is a really low price for 50GB blu-ray media.

I have read where Blu-ray media from different vendors may or may not work with various Blu-ray writers. So I emailed Digistore to see if this media was compatible with my new LG Blu-ray writer. They said it was, and indeed it is.

So far I have had no problems. I also liked the fact that their support people answered my email so fast.

These discs are a great value and made to a very high standard. I have had discs manufactured by Memorex in the past (that were twice the price) and a few of them had failed due to manufacture defects (tiny dimples on the write surface of 4 discs in two spindles of 25). The only issue I have had with these discs is that they are not compatible with some LG drives. I just use my LG burner now for 25GB discs and bought a Pioneer BDXL drive for the dual layer 50GB Digistor discs. They write quickly and playback without a hitch. I have bought Digistor discs in the past and they have always held up to my needs.

I have used 20 of these blank discs so far copying on my LG WH12LS30 internal blu-ray burner. I burn at speeds over 5X (burner is set to choose the burn speed automatically) and have used the entire 50GB (actually you get a little over 50GB) available on the disc with no problems and no coasters. They have all played on my stand alone LG blu-ray player, Play Station 3 and computer. I read e-mail, browse the web and download files while I am burning discs and sometimes the file downloading seems to be a little slower than normal or hangs for a second or two. I suspect Windows 7 manages resources to make sure the disc burner has the resources it needs first.

I give this product 5 stars. I have burned about half the pack with no problems what so ever. At the same time I have been using Verbatim brand, and Digistor seems to work just as well. I am burning in an internal LG burner, and playing disks on my computer and my Playstation 3 console without any problems. I have been trying both 50GB and 25GB, with both Digistor and Verbatim brands, and I can't tell any difference at this point. I give the same review for single and double layer. As for longevity, well there's no way of knowing at this point which brand holds up better over time. 50 years from now I will update this review and let you know the answer to that question. I'm sure I'll still be alive at 99 years old. Quick Tip: To avoid any potential issues, always burn at about 3/4 maximum speed.

Vivitar DVR-310 3MP MPEG4 Camcorder

I purchased this product as a gamble really, not expecting much from it. However after living with it for a couple of weeks i can honestly say it is a superb little prodcut.

The size of the camera is neat and practical, fits in my coat pocket. Utilises 2 x AA batteries of which i use rechargable, they last pretty well, only thing that really drains the batteries is the flash from the camera mode, that can flatten them quite quickly. The quality of the camera is very good, you need to stay still or you can blur a picture easily. Also the video camera quality is not excellent but very good, you do lose quality on the zoom so all in all camera and video camera is best for closer work than distance.

The advantage with this is you can either plug the SD card (which can be upto 512mb) into a card reader on your computer or usb lead, then the files can be transfered by cut / paste onto your pc without fuss for editing etc.

If you need something thats is cheap and realiable then this is for you, if you want high quality then another option may be best for you.

All in all i can recommend this item to anyone.

I bought this camera, my first video and digital camera, in the hopes of taking wonderful movies of my honeymoon & my new stepson and I feel cheated. I could have taken my money and thrown it out the window. The LCD screen doesn't let enough light in to see when you try to take the picture. And the video camera? Even worse. It's for outdoor use only unless you have florescent lighting in your house. It's impossible to take a good picture. You have to try and line it up 5 times to get it right and by that time you've totally drained the 2 AA batteries that it runs on. I called Vivitar and they wouldn't even hear of refunding me my money despite the fact that I'm so unhappy so if anyone has any idea what I should do with a camera that I don't want, please post it here cause at this point it's a paperweight. Don't waste your money on it like I did.

Its not as bad as some of the reviews state. Its easy to use and download in your computer. Ya it eats batteries up!I guess that is what I dislike about it. My suggestion is to wait for a sale, if you can pick it up for under say $80.00 go for it !!

The video quality on this camera was very poor in normal household lighting. To be fair, I didn't test it in the outdoors, but to be honest what good is a camera you can only use outside? It was simple to operate. I chose this camera because I was familiar with the Vivitar name as a good camera maker. This offering doesn't really come close to living up to standards.

The price tag is good, but you're setting yourself up for frustration if you want to try and use this as a camcorder. Don't waste your money. Still pictures might be ok, but the video was just plain sub standard.

I bought this cheap and nasty "thing" and was utterly speechless to test this out before xmas, and the alkaline batteries (supplied) drained within a minute! (eh?) yes folks it cannot do what it is upposed to do!. Avoid this at all costs unless you like hassle and losing money, by buying a proper product. Vivitar must be getting hard up. I used to use Vivitar lenses in my SLR (excellent quality) and flashguns (again excellent!). So imagine the suprise in store with this lump of you know what!.

Before buying the Yamaha 5-disc CD player, I did a comprehensive analysis of all currently available products. It included the players made by Denon, Onkyo, Teac and Sony among others, as well as DVD players that can also play CD's. I wanted a high quality player to work well with a stereo system including large JBL studio monitor speakers, a high-power integrated amplifier, and a direct drive Technics turntable. I had no interest in playing DVD's, only in good quality audio CD's, so I eliminated from consideration many products which are basically DVD players. I found out that most multi-disc CD players compromise their technical specifications compared with the audiophile-quality single-disc CD players, with Yamaha CDC-697 looking better than the others, possibly because it is optimized for playing CD's only, while the Denons and Onkyos also play compressed audio files like MP3 and WMA.

Any product that attempts to do too many things at once, usually does not do anything well!

Investigations of Yamaha's repair record compared with competitive products also appear favorable. Finally, I found out that CDC-697 can be operated both by the pushbuttons on the front panel or by the remote control. All competing carousel CD changers are not fully operational without using the remote. We are sick of having everything requiring a remote to operate. It is just a fake "convenience feature for the user", whose real purpose is to cut the equipment manufacturing costs by eliminating the old-style manual controls from the front panel!

We had the Yamaha CDC-697 for two months now and everything is fine so far. It was easy to set up without the remote control. We have not even inserted the batteries into the remote, the unit operates just fine without it, although there are some functions that are available only through the remote. We had to read only the first 10 pages of the 24-page owner's instruction manual to use the unit, for which my wife is very pleased. The competing carousel CD changers have 60 to 90 page manuals which take many hours to study before you can use the unit!

Let's hope that Yamaha does not make any silly engineering changes in the CDC-697 to make it more alike the Denon, Onkyo or Sony. We do not own an i-pod and will never buy it in the future, we will also never need to play any compressed audio files, we just want high fidelity music.

The fidelity of music from the Yamaha player through our system is just as good as from the Technics direct drive turntable with an elliptical Shure cartridge and new 33 RPM vinyl records, and we do not miss the occasional clicks usually present in vinyl records.

I was surprised how little user information was available on the web about 5 disk carousel changers.

I tried several higher end players (including Rotel, Denon, Sony, Onkyo/Integra and Marantz*) but I couldn't get past the extremely long time it took to switch tracks between disks while in random/shuffle mode (15 to 20 seconds). The 17 year changer I was replacing could change tracks on different disks in 8 to 10 seconds (measured from the end of one song to the start of another on a different disk).

Yamaha got it right with the CDC-697. It matched the track change speed of my 17 year old changer. If you regularly listen to music in random/shuffle mode, this CD changer is the only one out there (in 2008) that can change tracks on different disks within a reasonable time (8-10 seconds vs 15-20 seconds). Nothing else I tried out there that could do that.

Yamaha also seems to have the best version of the disk exchange feature. All the players I tried allow you to change some of the disks while one disk is still playing but the Yamaha is the only one that lets you change 4 of the 5 disks (the fifth is still playing). The others only let you access 2 of the 5 disks to change.

I think Yamaha put more thought into the "changer" aspect of this model.

One other benefit is that the CDC-697 is one of the few CD changers that supports CD text.

This is a solid unit but I had to discuss a problem with the power cable that I received with the unit. The end of the cable that hooks into the back of the player would not sit flush with the hole it hooks into (FYI if you consult the manual some versions of this unit do not have this). As soon as I plugged it in I thought the cable didn't seem to fit. Then the player would not turn on. I was required to finally hold the power cable with my hand so it would stay flush and keep juice to the machine going. I gave up and went to my basement and got out a similar power cable which worked perfectly. This is a crazy problem and I don't know who is at blame but it sent me for a loop. I docked the review of this unit heavily for such a hassle.

As for the machine it works great and helps me listen to many more cds continuously than a single disc player. It changes discs really fast and keeps the tunes flowing. You can also change discs while one is playing which is nice.

As an owner of some Hi-End/Mid-Fi CD players with rave reviews among the Audio community (DENON Universal Deck DVD-2910, ROTEL Reference RCD-1072) I can say that this Yammy doesn't come too shabby. I looked into other 5-disc decks (DENON & Marantz), but in the end this one made the grade.

I was looking for a simple and inexpensive 5-Disc deck for the moments I just load up a bunch of discs and listen casually while doing other things (attending guests at home, parties, reading, etc). Anything but critical listening. I was dumbstruck by the audio performance and sheer quality that this "cheap" deck pulls out of my CDs. I finally got this real performance sound machine from yamaha last week. I wanted a cd changer not too expensive, but a very acceptable cd changer, so I found a marantz cd changer whose cost was higher and this one. At the end I decided for this yamaha and I don't regret, It reproduces sound with a high fidelity, the balance between bass and treble is optimum. For me that was all I needed so I am happy. I had an Extreamer Sidewinder before but wanted to have a 3d option for cheap.

Sony ICD-B5 Digital Voice Recorder

A graduate-level class of mine required that I type up notes and post them on a class web page for review. I had a problem. I'm a very poor note taker and tend to gain most of my knowledge from reading and one-on-one discussions with classmates and professors. So, I figured my only hope was to record the classes so I could listen to the things I missed during class.

I did some searching and this one seemed like the best recorder for the money. I am pleased with my decision. The quality is perfect for voice -I wouldn't try to bootleg a concert on it. One thing of note generally on the quality of recordings: Although you pick up more distance sounds, you also get static when recording at the "high sensitivity microphone" setting.

The professor I have has a very deep, loud voice and the classroom is small -about 600 square feet (approx. 56 square meters).

You cannot connect this unit digitally to a computer -you can only use the analog earphone output to an analog "mic" input.

Here are my results from recording some classes... I recorded on the "high sensitivity" setting at all times because the "low sensitivity" setting just didn't seem to work unless you were speaking very close to the mic. I always recorded with the microphone facing up, with the unit laying on its back on a desk.

Here are the results I had while recording lectures:

* When the unit is about 15 to 20 feet from the professor, I can make out most of the lecture during playback. Sometimes, when the professor is speaking away from the class, the sound fades out.

* When the unit is about 10 to 15 feet from the professor, I can hear all of the lecture during playback. Occasionally I had to rewind to make out a few words.

* When the unit is about 5 to 10 feet from the professor, I can hear all of the lecture during playback. I had no problems at all listening to any of the lecture.

In all of the above cases, I could not hear student questions unless the students were sitting right next to me.

I hope this helps people make a decision in purchasing a digital recorder.

I work for three magazines and use this recorder for professional, demanding work. Before purchasing the Sony ICD-B5, I shopped around quite a bit and heard good things about this particular recorder (Consumer Reports, etc.). Although the reviews were accurate in their positive points, unfortunately, only people needing just the basics should think about purchasing this product.

There are a few major things that Sony -and other manufacturers of these recorders -need to take into consideration (honestly, I haven't really found the ideal solution for my needs).

The Sony ICD-B5 is lacking in the following areas:

* No "slow play" feature which many microcassette recorders sport. You have a choice of "Play" or "Stop"/"Pause"... that's it.

* Due to the fact that you have no "slow play," you are constantly having to hit "Pause" during playback (if you're taking notes), which wastes a lot of time and [uses] through the batteries VERY quickly. An hour and a half to two hours of interviews, including playback, and the batteries are [gone].

* The recorder has a jack that's labeled "Plug-In Power" but no one, including Sony, sells the power adapter needed.

* If you're careless and accidentally tap the "Rewind" button twice, it takes you back to the very beginning of the recording. VERY ANNOYING. Then you have to fast forward back to where you were. More time and batteries wasted. They should have a button that will take you back to the last spot in the recording that you were listening.

* Slow fast forward and rewind -I expected something tremendously better for digital. Unfortunately, these two functions act just like they do on a microcassette. Slow and tedious.

I gave this item 3 stars because, honestly, the other digital recorders I've seen don't seem to be that much better.

I had a previous generation Sony recorder and it served me well for almost two years before I thought it would be a good idea to change it (mainly for cosmetic reasons), so this gadget is hardly suitable for everyday use. Have to agree with the other reviewers. My main complaint is poor sound quality. In theory, this unit would be great. Digital offers many advantages over cassette tape. Indexing is a great feature that allows user to locate key passages easily. But playback is noisy and recording is faint. I thought it might be my particular until but I exchanged it for another and had same problem. Also, the continuous display drains batteries quickly.

I decided to buy one after seeing the quick response, by the seller, with regard to the individual that had a problem.

Item arrived quickly ahead of Amazon's estimate which impressed me as we are on opposite sides of the USA.

The other reviews here are positive but brief. I want to add detail. It really IS a sweet little item.

I've tried a number of these for office security and MANY are JUNK. Go ahead, check my other product reviews. It's a relief to find one the seller stands behind. Now I do also.

1. The unit fits in the palm of your hand. It is a nice travel clock. LED display is not too bright. Tiny and easy to pack. Discrete.

UPDATE: If you find the display too bright as a nightstand clock, use a screen protector for a cellphone. For $2 the "High Quality Privacy Screen Protector Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Sprint" (Amazon) covered (and dimmed) the screen but did not block the cam so you won't have to move the protector in the AM for security "duty".

2. The AC adaptor is both 110V and 240V THANK YOU! so you can use it in Europe / China / etc outside the USA. My Sonicare toothbrush can't do that. International AC adaptors are a must in my opinion. Travelers: The cord is about 2 feet. See seller comment to this review for longer cord options. Note that it does have a USA plug so for China/Europe you'll need plug adaptors but you do NOT need a voltage change.

3. VIDEO: I intend to use this as a security cam in my hotel room as I travel often for business. A little extra "peace of mind".

You can choose 320x240 or 640x480 for video resolution. These choices are pretty standard for security cams. I set it to 640x480 and "high" quality. Looks NICE!!! Obviously, more quality image means more memory used. Follow the seller guide (included see item 4).

BIG PLUS... the IR LED lighting is 940 nm! Who cares? 940nm is invisible to the eye. Many cams use lower nanometer levels which glow RED the universal signal that you are recording. I viewed THIS item with another IR camera and only then did I confirm the lighting was "on". Nice!

NOTE: See the first comment to this review, from Nick (the seller), regarding the amount of video time per gigabyte of memory.

4. The instructions included are TINY but the seller forwards you a LARGE size version PLUS a two-page "get started" guide. I was functioning in under 10 minutes. Follow the seller's guide step-by-step. Honestly, if you have a micro SD card reader you are ready to go in no time at all. No software necessary. There is a micro DVD included with English User's Manual, video example, etc but I found the seller doc more useful.

5. When you check your micro SD card you will see FOUR folders have been added Music, Pictures, Rec, Video

Any use of the cam goes into the "Rec" folder (there is another "video" folder in "Rec"). Why mention this? Because it really IS a clock/radio/MP3 player combination. I put a set of songs into the "Music" folder and it plays them well. Sound is not bad considering it's so small. It will also auto advance to the next song. I'm listening to it now. If you have an iPhone or iPod you might not use it but then an iPhone doesn't have night vision.

6. Mine is silver as in the first photo above (detail page). Some of the photos show other colors. I'm happy with silver. I think that is the default. Contact the seller if you have a question.

7. Travelers... it has a small pull-string sack to carry it. That will help protect it and the accessories in your luggage.

***** The clock has no alarm ***** But it has so many other features (cam, true IR, radio, mp3 player, etc) the lack of alarm is not a deal breaker (for me).

I wish I could expound on how wonderful the camera is (and it does seem to be), but we purchased it to catch a thief ~ literally. Before we had a chance to set it up, another neighbor caught the scumbag in the act. But, what I can attest to is the integrity of this seller. I use this to monitor my home while at work. I turn on the recording when I leave the house and off when I return. The unit in plugged into the AC charger all the time and since I have the spy camera set to loop record there is no need to delete files from the device ever.

This little camera works great! I was a little worried with the purchase, but everything works just as described. The only thing I would like to see improvement on is the width of the view. I expected to be able to capture more of my office with it, but I can only capture about half of my office. Other than that, this product is a great purchase!

Sony M2000A Microcassette Transcribing Machine

On the positive side, the transcriber was delivered quickly. Packaging was very good, with all of the required accessories that was advertised. The size was perfect as a spacesaver, and it looked very contemporary and professional. However, the counter is extremely small. You would need a magnifying glass to read the counter. Also, when the foot pedal is pressed either to go forward or backward, there is a loud, annoying sound. I tried to transcribe a short tape, but the loud sound whenever the pedal was pressed, was just too aggravating. Due to time constraints and an extremely busy schedule, I was unable to return the transcriber. Overall, the transcriber lives up to SONY's reputation as far as performance is concerned, however, I was very disappointed with the foot pedal. I went back to using my old transcriber (not a SONY).

This is ok for the price, but there is no erase feature and so I have to use an older transcriber to erase tapes. The cassette compartment does not always open properly and I have to work with it to make it open. I realize that most transcribers are digital and this is still a cassette, but my boss is old school and does not use anything digital. Overall not as good as my older one that finally quit after several years.

While it's nice that it's smaller, it only gives you 3 options for reverse time (and none are right for what I'm used to) and it doesn't have the ability to erase a tape when you're done. This was awesome, and works as promised :)

I bought this to be able to rip old video cassettes to a format saveable to DVD.

Everything connected up easily. The picture you get through this connector/adapter is ok, and the software that comes with it does permit some basic picture adjustment. However, the audio quality is full of static and hiss and is completely unacceptable.

I wound up having to use an older RCA to stereo mini jack adapter to go right from the VCR into the line level input on the back of my PC. Then, the sound was perfect. No static or hiss.

I will be trying to use this device to do my ripping, but the audio connectors should work flawlessly, and they do not, so I can't recommend it.

Don't get me wrong, it works to a certain extent but I have tried just about everything I could to get it to work fully on Windows 7 (even though the CD itself said it was compatible) and the best I could do was get audio but no video. So my more powerful and convenient laptop was rendered useless with this device. My PC with Vista worked a little better but since it's the cheap knockoff version, it doesn't work with audio very well at all. The video was what I expected but the best I could do with the audio aspect was to use my USB microphone to record game footage, which understandably was of low quality.

I like how the "listed price" is $39.99 for this when it's actually the listed price for the real EZCap.... if you plan on adding your own custom tracks to the final product then this is a great great deal, if not then you better go elsewhere or find a workaround that fixes the audio.

If you have Windows 7 you need to download Win7 drivers to get this to work (it doesn't come with the package & doesn't install automatically either). There are some good instructions on YouTube on how to set this up and gives the link for the Win7 drivers (go to YouTube and do a search for "Easycap windows 7 driver"). After doing that I eventually got this to work. However, I found the quality of the captured video to be a little choppy. It's still viewable but just a little choppier than when the video was captured via the firewire port.

So if you get this device, I suggest you compare with the video quality via a firewire connection (if you have one). In my case the firewire connection was significantly better.

I bought this player primarily for listening to audio books. So far it is perfect for the application. When you stop listening and pause or turn it off, the audio will resume exactly where you left off when you turn it back on. Bookmarks are easy to place if you might want to listen to multiple books in the same period. The capacity is more than adequate. Actually, I am very much astonished from the reviews written on the AV480 here on amazon as well as on other sites.

Since this device is no cheap at all, i had to run an extensive survey trying to evaluate this equipment. And all the feedback was very discouraging.

All the reviews said that the AV480 fails much and doesn't work and stuff like that. But, since i was desperate to have a large (more than 50 GB) portable media device and i couldn't find other choice (May be except the iPod, and the Zen) i decided to take my chances and try one.

Let's cross our fingers:

I have it now for around a 1.5 months, and this piece of art is really amazing.

I tried almost every possible combination of features together to check if it is working. And yes, i admit that i have extensively tested it.

I connected it to my computer, and it worked fine, nothing needed to recognize the AV480 as a USB 80GB harddisk.

I ran up to 10 copy operations of large data from the PC to AV480 (2GB) simultaneously and with 3 copy operations from the AV480 to the PC. This test was done all together to randomly test the scheduler (OS) of the AV480 and does it que the data in a correct manner or not. With these threads opened, the odds should be very high that the disk will fail in one of them. But, amazingly it went through very smoothly. So I am now pretty sure from the OS is rigid.

The other tests were rather easy, i tried to run MP3's on the unit and sucking the battery dry. Trying to check when the unit abnormally or urgently shutdown, and expecting a failure when booting it, i didn't have any problem. The unit when just charged, started up very normally.

I tested recording as well (Audio only) and it is very clear to me.. It records to WAVs, but there is no problem. Any ripper will change that to MP3's.

I still have the video recording test to go. I didn't try that yet, though i believe that it will pass fairly.

Ok, looking very impressive with the above tests, i tried to be picky, and try to catch anything bad in that device:

1. The battery charging looks very primitive. When you charge the unit, it just charges over the level it is originally at. Meaning: If you have a total empty battery, charging in 4 hours. Then a half empty battery will charge in 2 hours, a 1/4 empty battery will charge in 1 hour and so on. I think that this way the battery will experience memory effect. Meaning that for a half battery charging, the next time the battery will tell the unit that it is empty only after a 1/2 battery discharge. Though my unit is not experiencing a memory effect, but this rather takes long times.

2. The unit power connector is sloppy. Using the charger that came with the unit, it is very easy for the charger to get disconnected from the unit if you accidentaly pushed the unit a bit away.

3. I don't know if the power connector is a standard size! I tried buying a car charger from RadioShack. The charger didn't fit in the unit. Actually the unit needed a little longer jack to fit in. The jack at RadioShack was short, and when you push it hard in it contacts the power, when you release the pressure it disconnects.

4. The design was meant to be elegant, but the finishing quality isn't that elegant. If you look from the side of the unit you can see the light of the LCD.

5. The carrying case is very premitive. It has no place to carry the earphones with it. And it is very hard to reach the buttons when the unit is in the carrying case.

6. The recording unit comes with a very large bunch of wires that makes the connection with the TV and Sound system in my room even more harder and messy :)

7. Archos' customer service SUCKS! When i was researching for this unit, and found the discouraging reviews and found a more encouraging reviews on the AV380 i asked them if they still support the AV380 (because Archos' site is the only place that doesn't sell the AV380!). And till now i have no answer back :)

Conclusion:

It is a very efficient device with couple of drawbacks that can be solved by firmware upgrades.

I must say i'm very surprised by the reviews below; about them not working after a little use. I'm also worried, because now i'm wondering if mine will break soon. I've had no problems in about 3 months that i've owned it... hopefully if it's lasted this long then i'll be OK for the long term.

My experience with it is great. I'm sure you know all it's features, so i'll just list some complaints (nit picks):

The shell is quite delicate. You must handle it with care or you may ding it.

In the dark it can be a little difficult to feel out the buttons; they don't stick out very far so it helps if you can see the buttons well.

I wish you could record "audio" in MP3 format. Currently it records in a format that yields a huge file size.

When you fast forward a video, you don't know how far you've gone until you stop fast forwarding. It screen doesn't update as you fast forward.

If you get video from the internet, or elsewhere, you must convert it to a specific format that the AV400 can read. The package comes with very easy to use software, but if you're converting lots of videos, it can be time consuming.

I would like the photo viewer to have more options... for example, i think it would be great if it could show a "histogram" of a photo, so you can make sure a photo is exposed correctly.

The LCD gets dark if viewed at a high angle. If viewed directly on it, too low, or too far right or left, however, the quality is great! But i'm sure that's just a limitation of LCD screens.

So far I am very happy with it, and I can live with my little complaints. I'm just still hoping that my unit will continue to work well for a long time...

I love the AV480 when it works.

However, I've gone through 3 units already. Each one has had its hard disk break within 1 week of use. Unfortunately that was enough time for me to record about 60GB of ripped DVDs (now all lost).

Has anyone had this device work for more than a week?

I was extremely careful with it and it still broke. On the other hand, I've purchased one of those Microsoft Portable Media Centers. That has withstood much harsher handling. Unfortunately it is only 20GB. I like the AV480 more, but I wish it would work for more than a week.

Like many others, I first thought that the AV-480 was the "King of all electronic devices". At first use, the integrated photo, video, and audio capabilities appear to be second to none. The user interface is quite intuitive and the quality of the audio and video is excellent. The video recording capabilities net a file that is about twice the size that it should be; but the playback quality is awesome.

Why then do I rate this device at only two stars. Unfortunately the AV-480 has been a single use device for me. Each Sunday evening, I copy my movies, photo's, and mp3's onto my AV-480 and before I board my outbound flight on Monday morning, I receive the famous "cannot read hard drive" message. In order to restore the unit back to a working condition I have to format the hard drive and wait until I return from my travels to load all of my data back on the device. I am about to purchase an 80 Gig external hard drive to carry on my trips so that I can restore all of my AV-480 data from the external hard drive to the AV-480 via my laptop in flight. Thus increasing my initial $800.00 investment to over $1,000, all in the name of in-flight entertainment.

I have also purchased the AV-420 based on the reviews. Supposedly this device is more reliable. I intend to use the AV-420 device for domestic travels and only carry the AV-480 plus the soon to be procured external hard drive with backup files for the aforementioned AV-480 when I travel internationally.

The bottom line, for $800.00 you should not have problems like the ones that you find described here. It is useless to send the device back to Archos because the next AV-480 that you receive will have the exact same set of issues. When Archos finally resolves the hard drive issues on the AV-480, it will be the most advanced media device on the market without a close second. In my opinion you should wait until Archos admits that the AV-480 has a hard drive problem and publishes a fix for that problem before making the decision to purchase one. Until then, you should just take your $800 to Vegas and gamble there, the odds will certainly be more in your favor.

I purchased the AV 480 a week before Xmas. Despite all of the negative reviews on this product, I have yet to experience any problems. The model has seemlessly recorded several movies and at least twenty CDs. With that said, I have about 72 GB left. I can probably get fifteen more movies and 100 more CDs on it. This product is great. On trips, you no longer need to carry your DVD player, DVDs and MP3 player separately which saves a great deal of packing space. This is the perfect all in one media player.

Also, there have been recent upgrades on this product from the Archos website which may have alleviated any prior snafus.

As the manual suggests, it is best to download Windows Media Player 9. I don't know whether the machine accepts any other players.

Yeah like the title says not bad for thirty bucks. But be aware they sell a 540tvl camera same body color for thirty bucks more and it includes a power supply. The difference in picture quality is significantly better with the higher res camera. So much so that we don't use this camera for our bar surveillance, can't tell what the bartenders pouring and currency being used. So instead i use these cameras at my house. For the price, their worth four stars.

OK resolution in the day but kind of fuzzy resolution at night. You need a 1.5 mm allen wrench to tighten the bezel down, after screwing the base plate into whatever you're mounting the camera into. I really like this camera! I have 2 outputs on my dvr: VGA and Monitor. I have it connected to both and the image is very good on both. When the night vision kicks in you can see everything very clearly even in total darkness. So far this is the best low budget camera I have found. I have seen this camera on another site that had an original retail of 192.00. I don't know how true that is but it really does work well and at this price you can't go wrong. I just ordered 2 more from Amazon and then I should be all set.

i had an older iriver but this one is even better. it has a timer, pedometer and radio frequency player. My old one didn't have all these features. I like the fact that it doesn't utilize batteries of any kind which is a plus. My other Cody player takes AAA batteries, real pain when you're out somewhere and it dies because of a dead battery.

You know know Motorola's popular Razr line dominated 2006 and is still a strong contender for 2007, so with that popularity, it seems the company is not going to venture too far from a line that really sky-rocketed them to the No. 1 spot. From the Razr came the new Krzr and Rizr line and so we will pick on the Rizr at this time.

I have had the phone for 3 days know, and I am really impressed with this little thing. The hardest thing for me was just geting use to the Motorola interface (this is my very first Motorola); but besides that, it had all the features I craved...

1) WORLD PHONE Baby I love Ericsson phones, but they are usually tri-band phones...I needed a quad band phone with all the travelings and phone calls I make, and I knew Motorola is very consistent with this modality.

2)CAMERA & VIDEO basedtelephone I love to take pics and I love recording capabilities on my cell phones, so when I found that this nifty devide has a 2MP camera and an un-timed video recorder (both of which can be accessed with a dedicated button), I was very thrilled..It has full-fledged camera and video options, so you'd never need to carry a separate camera or video camera when you have this phone

3)MP3 Player I already have a dedicated music player, but it is nice to have the option to load as much as 40-50 songs on this phone ( with its included 128MB micro-SD card).

4) Great battery management You'd think with a gadget that boasts to be a phone, MP3 player, video and camera will die in few hours right...wrong..I have only charged it once (I love having my phone fully charged before I leave the house) and it is really good with its battery management ( definately squashed my last cell phone which boasted all the same features Sony Ericsson K700i)

5) EXPANDIBLE The phone only has around 24MB of memory, but with the included 128MB card, and the ability to upgrade the phone yourself and get a 2GB card, there is virtually no way to ever really run out of space

6) STEREO Bluetooth HEADSET anyone? Ok...so I havent purchased it yet, but because this is a Music player phone and because it does have Bluetooth, you can buy a Bluetooth stereo headset so that you can jam to your music and be totally wireless...NiCE!!

7) Perfect for NON-FLIP Lovers I have a thing for bar/candy bar phones...I never cared for flip phones, so this is a real treat for both the lovers of flip phones and those of us who still like the European-type non-flip phones...

ALSO, voice recordings & voice note-talking capabilites, JAVA-enabled, standard productivity suite (Calendar, Alarm, World clock), Instant Messaging ( if you are on the T-Mobile network), Ability to use your MP3s as your own ringtones...

1) What? No Infraread Although I will miss having the IrDA technology, everything seems to be moving to a Bluetooth connectivity world, so I am not too sad about it.

2) No FM Tuner I didnt really need this feature on a phone, but I did have it on my last cell phone and it was great to have. This phone's other features do make the lack of a FM tuner bareable though, so its all good.

Motorola RIZR

First blush, day 1: Attractive phone, feels good & sturdy in the hand, buttons are very responsive, slide function is easy to use and graceful, GUI is not exactly pretty but mostly very intuitive. Rather well put together phone.

Why'd I get this phone: quad band, Bluetooth, good camera, a music player (or two actually, confusing) which seemed decent in the store. And because it was NOT a flip phone (which I loath), Tmo didn't have a decent candy bar (which I love), and ... it was not a Samsung (take that for what it's worth).

Pros:

1. Great camera compared to what I've had (SE T610, Samsung T809) with very strong flash, actually, it's like a flash light. Can I smart button this function anyone?

2. So far, reception is pretty good, antenna stronger than my old & beat up SE t610, and comparable to my Samsung t809 (which broke), but sometimes the call is scratchy or does that computer reverberation like sound (which I've never experienced on my other phones).

3. iTap text message entry is pretty impressive/smart (this is my first Motorola phone). I'm not sure of how it is implemented on other Motorolas but I like it on this one. I miss a few choices of T9 on my SE t610 (w/ Tmo) but iTap is cool.

Cons:

1. No timer or stopwatch

2. No analog clock option (but Moto if you're going to design one, make it look like the Nokia analog clock for the 6133 or the s60 menubar clock)

3. No mirror on the back for self pics like many Sony-Ericsson bar phones have

4. Placement of memory card: buy yourself surgical tweezers or hemostats to get this sucker out

5. Mac/Bluetooth/iSync: iSync does not work for me despite having first dl'd an iSync plug in which purports to doing so. With my Samsung this made me irate, but Moto has a good track record with iSync support so I'm waiting.

6. Headset has better mic, so others hear me better even than when I'm using the phone regularly. BUT, there's often (65% of the time) a buzz that either I can hear, or both my caller and I can hear.

7. Cannot access full menu when on a call, only some menu functions (but not text or call recording)

8. Cannot record calls

9. Some functions & settings hard to find (or completely lost)

Tmo has crippled this phone in some ways:

1. no MotoReader like the Moto site for the product says (which opens MS docs)

2. the option to save text messages to the SIM card has been removed. Tmo support says they can't control this. Moto says Tmo has removed it and thus controls that aspect.

3. cannot install Java apps like the Moto site says.

What? I thought this was MY phone now. Silly consumer, Deutsch Telecom owns it.

Comments:

1. screen is tiny compared to others, but still is very resolute and pleasant to look at

2. camera is great, doesn't have as many fun options as my old Samsung t809 (which I really didn't like but which did have lots of ways to play with your pics when taking them like comic bubbles etc)

3. my RIZR was set to display only SIM card contacts when I first got it from Tmo which frustrated me for a while since the phone kept telling me that the newly BT transferred contact was "outside current view"

4. I have decided to keep the phone with Tmo despite the drawbacks I've listed.

After long term use:

1. key pad lost responsiveness, would not enter some numbers, some numbers would enter two or three times, scrool pad lost sensitivity on one side.

2. after moving on to other phones, the features i miss are

flash light (simple feature, but once gone is missed)

iTap. going back to t9 is painful now! iTap took a little adjustment but once adjusted is far superior

Ok so I have the a Unlocked Black Rizr I got off of ebay since amazon is still so high. That will probably drop before too long. But keep in mind amazon has warranties and protection compared to the hassles ebay can ensue. So heres my take on it after a couple weeks.

The good and bad of this sweet phone!

1: Mp3 player. I love having this in my phone! I have a separate one but

this is so much better if you just want to pack light. The interface isn't the best on the media player but its bearable. It allows playlists and sorts by artist, album, and song. Only thing that really bugs me is no link to the now playing. It has one when you just let it play but once you leave that screen your s.o.l. Overall decent though, however you can't do other things and keep the music playing. You can suspend it, but that still pauses the playback. You can also add a 2gb microsd card to really make it worth while. Just make sure you have a card reader to speed transfers to the card.

2. Bluetooth/Stereo Bluetooth: Whooh, this may be my favorite new gadget! listening wireless like never before. I have a Motorola S9 headset and a SonyEricson. The S9 really makes me never want to use wired headphones again. However, the sonys are more comfortable but you have something hanging down still. I love both though. Definitely worth the money. Just hope you have gotten used to pairing headsets. Sometimes the phone likes to play games with me and make me repair them. Especially if you switch headsets a lot. Also, you can use the bluetooth and the motorola software to backup your contacts, make ringtones, and sync calendars with your computer. You just have to get the software.(I suggest checking forums for it but you can always be honest and actually buy it and keep motorola in business.) The software is nice but beware paying much for it. Theres many other ways to do the same thing. Thats all for that.

3. Camera: I love having the camera but beware its not going to blow your mind or anything. Good lighting though so it will get decent pics when you want it to. So generally it serves its purpose of getting you a pic in the spur of the moment. The video camera is awesome however. You get a clear picture with as much recording time as you memory can hold. SO you can catch not just that one moment but the whole thing. Just don't think the 2 mega-pixel camera will look as good as the a good digital one.

4. Ok here's a few little random things: Expect moto menus. Not a whole lot has changed here however the voice dialing on mine was like the British version. Just a couple more weeks and I'll have my accent perfect to use this feature. Hopefully =). The amazon versions are probably more the american version than mine. A drawback to ebay but hey it proves this is truly a world phone. I'm using t-mobile and get good reception pretty much everywhere. Battery works good I usually charge it like every other night or so depending how much I listen to the mp3 player. Good battery life considering all thats packed in it. Screen is good. Would recommend a screen protector to keep it looking good.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. It works great as a phone or mp3 player or camera. Just watch the price. Thats the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Also, get the black or red. The blue is sadly, real ugly.

Oh almost forgot, make sure you go to carriers website and get the download for the internet browser. Internet won't work without it. At least, not with t-mobile. Found it in faqs for phones not purchased through t-mobile. Don't worry, its free to download.

PLUSES:

Looks futuristic, up to date, cool. Menu is easy to navigate through, phone is pretty user friendly. Great display and graphics. Cool ring tones and backgrounds. 2megapixel camera, light. Good reception.

MINUSES:

Here is what I just don't get: Sony Ericsson has this and I think it is one of the most useful features. This phone nor any of the other motorola one I know does not have the ability to light up the main display when a button is pressed. When the screen goes blank, you have to press something for it to light up, but any button you press will perform that button's command. If you press any button on a Sony Ericsson while the screen is black, it first goes to the main screen. This is VERY inconvenient. If you are on a call, the screen goes black, so if you want to check how many minutes you've been on the call, or see what number it is, or what time it is, you can't, unless you press a command key, in which case you'll end up in that command. Sucks. Also, the speaker is shoddy, sometimes it just breaks up and sounds muffled, as well as the ear phone. I don't think the people on the other line sound as clear as they should, I often find myself asking them to repeat thmselves, but not on my Sony Ericsson. The picture quality is OK, not good, not great.

Bottom Line: Cool, but far from great. A few tweaks to the interface would make this phone much better, but Motorola just didn't hit the mark yet.

I have had my RIZR from T-Mobile for a few weeks now after switching from Verizon. I was originally considering the Nokia 5300. But when I compared the 2 phones side by side, the RIZR seemed more solid, more durable and less flimsy than the Nokia 5300. So I chose the RIZR and I could not be happier. The phone is easy to program and a breeze to use. The display is bright, clear and very easy to read (even without my bifocals!). So far the sound quality and reception have been outstanding. The best feature for me is the mp3 player. With my new RIZR I can transfer mp3 songs directly from my computer to my phone with a simple drag and drop (the 128 MB card is not very large, but enough for my needs). I can then select the songs to act as ringtones. Being able to assign a song/ringtone to a certain phone number is a really cool feature, at least for me.

The mp3 player included with the phone is very easy to use too.

My only "minor" gripe is the screen goes black during calls. But I found pressing the volume up button, which displays the volume screen temporarily, brings the main screen back fast enough for me.

All in all a great phone and highly recommended.

This product is good but I would highly recommend to get cameras that are specifically made for the DVR. Example, I have a Night Owl DVR so I should get Night Owl cameras. I believe that only a few compatible cameras will work with this but after about a year, I ve lost my night vision on one of these cameras. I would be replacing it with a Night Owl camera.
